Weekend

My weekend started on Thursday with seeing Infa Riot, worked on Friday and helped one of my best friend's move on Saturday. Boy are my arms tired....literally.

Saturday was also a really fun art/motorcycle (and car) show put on by my talented friend's Chris and Joanne Galley, which featured Chris' artwork. You can view his website here. I didn't grab an outfit photo as I was having too much fun chatting away, but I did manage to snap a photo of these lovely gals, Julie Ann (left) and (right) Maggie. Great outfits ladies!

And today Derek and I went to a antique flea market that we frequent and I spotted this awesome painting someone did of Robert Smith! I had to take a photo since I'm such a "Curehead"-which I just learned is an Irish slang term for anyone with that "1980s mop haired 'Gothic' look". Hehe!

We got a few goodies at the flea market, ran into some friends and looked at a lot of odd and interesting things, and I'm not just talking about the people. Badumching! Thank you, thank you I'll be here all week!

Outfit of the Day : Elastic on Elastic Action

I was just about to head outside to shoot my outfit of the day when the sky opened up and it poured, so I retreated inside to shoot a few pictures by the living room window.

The skirt I'm wearing is a thrift shop find for about $3, I loved the hem line, material and length, what I don't like is the elastic waist. As you can see the skirt came home with me, and after a few tries at finding a top to wear over the skirt (tops were too long, too short, too lumpy, etc.), I decided to wear a simple tank tucked in with an elastic waist belt to try and camouflage the skirt's own elastic waist band. It's working ok, but the elastic belt shifts around, hrmmmmm.

So, I threw on my long lace cardigan to go along with the flow of the skirt and to distract from the wonky elastic on elastic action. Heh. I had to admit when the Sisters of Mercy came on Pandora I took a minute to twirl around, this outfit gets two big thumbs up in the twirly department.

I'm going to have to work with this skirt as I don't care for elastic waist bands, especially thin elastic bands. They tend to dig into me, create lumps and bumps that really aren't there and can be less-than forgiving. Yes, the elastic is supposed to be there for comfort, but it doesn't do my figure justice in most circumstances. We'll have to see how versatile this skirt can be or if it will have to go back into the thrifting pool.

Shoes! OMG! : Breckelle's INDY-11

The Breckelle's INDY-11 lace up oxford booties are the similar style of boots that I got for my 7th birthday and those boots spawned a love affair with not only fashion boots, but as well as red shoes.

I really dig the fold over cuff design and how much they remind me of the 80s. I love the 80s! *Insert big smile*

Do you have any fond shoe memories from your youth?

Outfit of the Day : Cure Daze

I love The Cure and I know I join the millions of fans who swoon over Robert Smiths vocals and Simon Gallup's bass guitar drones. The Cure are legends in their own right and are indeed my all-time favorite band.

This Cure t-shirt is the only one I own that I would wear in public, all the others are bedtime t-shirts that have been loved to (almost) death and/or are too oversize for day-to-day wear. When I do wear a band t-shirt, I prefer them to be more in a simple design with the bands name/logo being the focus and the shirt being fitted, but not skin tight.

Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, one of my favorite albums, next to Pornography and Seventeen Seconds. I love Disintegration, but it reminds me of a bad time in my life....so we don't listen to that one in its entirety.

I paired the t-shirt with a skirt I made from a dress, an elastic waist belt, my red creepers, and I'm rockin' my newest Dungaree Dolly bag. It's her mini messenger style bag which is so easy to carry for hands-free shopping, adventures, etc. Check out the amazing atomic print I got it in!

I loved the pattern so much, I got a matching Rosie Scarf!

The Cure and Dolly Bags, what a great day! Hehehehe!

Are you a Cure fan?

Outfit of the Day : Leopard and Bones

Often I wear a lot of plain clothing and snazz it up with accessories and shoes, but sometimes I like to mix up patterns and textures. I believe the key to mixing patterns is the harmony in colors and patterns. For instance, I'm wearing my X-Ray Doll Parts dress (which can be seen here and here) over a pair of black leggings and I added the grey leopard vest-I consider animal prints a neutral in this case. Since the grey leopard vest has such a small pattern it's not competing with the larger X-Ray print and the grey is a compliment to the nice soft texture of the dress, along with the color palette of black and white.

I choose the black stretch belt to not only break up the pattern on the dress, but gives the dress a nice shape and gives my waist a little cinch. Oh yes, I truly love belts! I am wearing black leggings, because I like that it ties the black hair scarf and black belt all together. I kept all of my accessories simple with silver which also ties into the studs on my creepers. My poor beat up creepers.

Just a little insight into the way that I dress, no fashion rules over here, I just like the aesthetics. *Wink*

Do you wear patterns? If so, do you like to mix and match?

Outfit of the Day : Crosses or Pluses?

Are they crosses or are they pluses? Who knows, but I am loving my new dress I picked up from H&M's clearance rack for $15. The funny thing about this dress is that I tried on a size 6 and the buttons were pulling in the breast area, but when I measured it to the other size 6 (on the clearance rack) there was a huge size gap, so I got the bigger 6 and voila!, fits great. It never ceases to amazes me how much of a size difference is acceptable in garments.

I paired the dress with a ribbon tie and my mini fedora hat, it made me feel very playful and summery for a day that would be spent at work slinging dresses.

It's finally starting to feel like summer here and I wish you all Happy Summer Solstice or Winter Solstice for some of my far away readers ;)

Phew! What a Weekend!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I'm happily exhausted from a weekend filled with clubbing. Last night was our kick off event for On The Wire, put together by three friends and myself, which will be a monthly event to add to the Buffalo fun. The event was a smash success, I was walking around in awe of the awesome vibe, new faces and how supportive everyone was about the new event. I danced my legs off and I can't wipe the smile off my face as we have a great team working together!

Outfit of the Day : "On Trend"

I went shopping on Thursday as it was a dreary rainy day. I wanted to take some exercise and I wasn't feeling very inspired to sew, so off to the big mall I went. (Scary!) I walked into H&M and quickly realized how "on trend" my outfit was, my friend Erica (who is a manager) pointed it out too. The 80s look is 'in' along with the 90s grunge look, but this 80s reject is not complaining other than it's hard to resist buying things when everything you love is in style...minus the grunge looks, been there and done that.

Help! I'm being trendy on accident! Hahahaha!

I did nab a few things even though I felt a little guilty, I always have buyers remorse when shopping retail, but it's fun to treat yourself to a few goodies. *Wink*

What I'm wearing:
lace blouse : Forever 21
high-waisted skirt : thrift store
hat: clearance rack T.J. Maxx
boots : Target, purchased via Amazon
I'm also wearing grey slouch socks!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week, the weekend is almost here!

Shoes! OMG! : A8220L Black and Red Kiss Rocket Heel

Ohhhh these have lips on them! I have a 'thing' for anything with a lip pattern, I think it's because I get a kick out of those red lip couches and lip phones from the 80s. Kitschy is as kitschy does! The A8220L Black and Red Kiss Rocket Heel is just too cute with the bow detail, ankle strap and the polkadot pattern which also ties into the Curious Professor Z's monthly homework assignment theme, polkadots!

Do you like polkadots?

Outfit of the Day : Lace Dress and Stripey Legs

There is a snag in the front, which I fixed after taking the photos. D'oh!

This is an outfit I wore to work last week. I layered a black lace dress ($3, thrifted) over black and white nylon leggings, a ruffled cotton jacket and wore a short pair of buckle boots.

The dress as a little big so I added an elastic belt to give the dress a little more shape, but with that you could see the outline of my bra. Ack! I wore the jacket over the dress the whole day at work, so no bra outlines and/or bra straps were showing, but I think the dress just may be a bit too big for me. I'm brainstorming some ideas on how to alter it to fit me and I think by adding a few nips and tucks it will be a great go-to in my wardrobe.

You know, I really need another little black dress. *Wink*

Outfit of the Day : Leopard Print and a Shrunken Head.....Skirt

On Saturday I wore this outfit to work at Cats Like Us, I sorta "forgot" about my wonderful Mode Merr shrunken head pencil skirt. I love shrunken heads, as odd as it sounds, they fascinate me.

This skirt is not new to the blog, but I like to style pieces in a variety of ways, like this way and this way. Since I was going to work I wanted something comfy, so I paired my shrunken head skirt with my 'Suffering From Elvis Disease Shirt' (Derek's name for his Elvis bust creations) and this cotton/poly leopard blazer that has made it's appearance time and time again, it's just that versatile! I wore a belt over the t-shirt as the shirt is bit big and I was trying to control volume while giving myself a more defined waist. My trusty studded creepers finished the look with a simple leather studded cuff and my black hair scarf tied in a bow.

How do you get the most out of the pieces in your closet?

Leather Biker Hat

Last night Derek and I went out for a little while to Uprising, a once a month ebm/industrial night in Buffalo. I decided to wear my $6 leather biker hat purchase from ebay. I've been wanting hat like this to added to my 80s fashion obsession.

It was one of the nights that getting dressed was a chore, so after several clothing messes made everywhere, I just threw on a jacket/t-shirt/skirt combo, added my cone studded belt (studded by me), layered fishnets and my cowboy boots.

Ice Bat armband that affectionately lives on my arm, handmade of course *Wink*

I'll leave you with one video that inspired my years and years of loving leather biker hats, officers caps and the like....

Just a Hint of Red for Billy Idol : Red and Black Week

Yesterday was still on the cooler side, which made me a happy gal since we were going to see Billy Idol!

I'm wearing my dagger leggings by Lip Service, cotton elastic waist shirt (thrift $2.50), black cotton boat neck top (thrift $1), cone studded belt by me, cowboy boots, 'porkpie' hat from Forever 21, and my new scarab beetle necklace that I got from our trip to Pittsburgh. My new necklace makes me so happy as it's a nice souvenir from a fun trip with new friends.

My hint of red is my lip gloss and my ring finger is painted red. Hehe!

We had a good time at Billy Idol despite the crowd, I have to admit the older I get the more I get uncomfortable and panicky in large outdoor standing-only crowds. People get drunk, rude and pushy, we couldn't even get anywhere near the stage because of the sea of people with their lawn chairs. Oh well, we just watched the big screen and sang and danced along. Derek and I were excited because he played some Generation X songs, like opening the set with "Ready, Set, Go", he also played his solo favorite of mine, "Flesh for Fantasy", which (though cheesy) I love. Billy's voice is great and he's still sexy as hell. Me-OW!

He's "rebel yell"-ing here.
Oh Billy, I love you too.

I've already seen some awesome shows this year and I'm still in awe at the fact that it's June already! Wow, my Mama was right, time fly's when you're having fun!

Thank you for reading and Happy Red & Black Week!

Outfit of the Day : Gravestone Print with Red and Black Stripes

Cooler days here so I layered a black dress with leggings and wore this tombstone print short-sleeve hoodie by Lip Service over the dress. I love the pattern of the hoodie, but the hook-n-eye closures are wonky and it's on my mental 'do something about it' sewing list.

I wore my black and red stripped jackets for running errands, so it tied in perfectly to Sophistique Noir's Red and Black week!

Make sure you  check out everyone else's Red & Black week entries!
