Retro Poplin Dress by eShakti

I love shirt dresses. Love. I have a few in my closet, but I'm always lusting after a dress that is cotton, easy to wear and fits like a dream. Enter the Retro Poplin Dress by eShakti, it fulfills my requirements and it even has pockets! Bonus!

This dress is my second purchase from eShakti as the first shirt dress I ordered is in the sewing pile as it's just way too long on me and needs some hemming. I am normally saying something is too short, so this is definitely a change of pace! Hahaha! I enjoy the design of the dress, yet it just doesn't hit me quite right and thus makes it look awkward. Gotta make the garment work for you, not against you! *Cracks whip*

My red creepers matched my atomic print Rosie Scarf perfectly. I like to add touches of color with prints that I enjoy to give my (mostly black) wardrobe some variety and interest, but as always I am wearing color all over me....in tattoo form!

How do you like to add personal touches to your mostly black wardrobe? Or how do you add black to your colorful world?

Thank you for hanging out with me!

Radiation Club Nights

What is this? Going out to a club twice in once month? Derek and I headed to Radiation on Friday for a few hours since work was calling on Saturday and frankly, we're not night owls. Oh, how times have changed!

I forgot about this tunic top I'm wearing under the cardigan, it has wonderful side ruching and looks great with patterned leggings like these from Carousel Ink. I got inspired and tried searching around on the internet for something similar to the tunic, but everything is cropped or not ruched or "what the?", so I'm going to have to wait...and wait...and wait.

Derek told me to pose like a "primate", so this is what he got!

And it's good to pose with cleaning items like this Bissell carpet sweeper that was nearby.

By Friday it had already been a long week, so I was sort of zoning out at the bar, but got to chat with friends and dance to a few songs. Short and sweet, but fun!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

"Nun, the Word Says It All"

Pardon me from quoting Blache from the The Golden Girls, but I just couldn't help myself! Meet the newest nun that joined my Convent. I called her "Nunnie Buns" while I was putting her on the shelf, perhaps that is her name now?

On Monday I had a great vintage shopping day with Derek and our friend's Iris and Sebastian. Sebastian found this lovely nun doll for me and though I'm not a huge fan of dolls, I made an exception for this lovely gal. I love her blue eyes!

Look! A flying nun!!

It's safe to say I take some style notes from nuns. I don't know where the obsession came from, perhaps it was from being raised Roman Catholic, or my wondering what they are wearing under their habits, or my love of uniforms. My interest has nothing to do with religion, I just love nuns and I can not lie!

Roller Boogie!

I interrupt our regularly scheduled Shoe Thursday for some ROLLER BOOGIE! Wednesday night was adult retro roller skating night and boy was it a blast! I wore a skater skirt, because...you know, I was skating. Weeee!

Julie Ann and I

Derek and Andrew doing...umm, I have no idea. Haha!

Roller skates are basically shoes on wheels, so I have to point out some skates that I think are totally rad!

Sigh, maybe someday, but I'll stick to rentals for now.

Hey look! Derek is posing with a laser-eyed vampire!

I can't wait till next Wednesday, so much fun and such good exercise. I definitely felt the burn this morning!

Thank you for hanging out with me!

On the Wire : April

Saturday was On the Wire's April event and between getting home from work, painting up my face, spraying my hair and frantically finding something to wear (I tried to plan, but I hated everything I put on) and be to the venue by 10:30, I had no time for a proper outfit photo.

I haven't worn this Lip Service dress since last year:

As I'm looking at the blog post that these photos were featured, I am realizing that this dress seems to be a once-a-year piece. Haha! I did layer a skater skirt under the dress to give it more volume and length, so perhaps it will see the light of day more....or darkness of night!

I do have to take a minute and praise two products, e.l.f Studio Lip Lock and NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick, as my lipstick stayed all night and didn't feather at all. Biggest bonus, I did not feel like my lips were cakey and chapped, so I didn't even bother reapplying. I keep going back to NYX for my lip liners and lipsticks, they have great colors and I can't complain about their budget-friendly prices.

What lip products do you like that keep your lipstick/gloss/etc. staying put?

Thank you for hanging out with me!

Kitsch Picks : After Inked

There are so many methods of tattoo aftercare, yet with one main focus in mind-healing it without infection or loss of ink. Though I've tired many products over the years, I was so impressed with the sample of After Inked that I received at a tattoo convention that I got Derek to give it a try and now we're both on our second tube!

The reasons why I like After Inked is that it's easy to use, feels great and is a product that you can use right after tattooing straight through the healing process to moisturize and help protect the tattoo. I am so anal about the cleanliness of healing a tattoo as I want my color to stay put and to avoid infection...I've seen infected tattoos and it is not a pretty sight. Though After Inked is not antimicrobial (no product can guarantee against a possible infection) it is a good defense along with proper washing and avoiding wearing soiled clothing, laying on soiled sheets/blankets, etc. After Ink also isn't filled with nasty chemicals and is paraben and petroleum free, cruelty-free and vegan. The best part is that it will not stick to your clothes. Hallelujah!

I'm pretty excited about After Inked, but I always advise to talk to your tattoo artist about tattoo aftercare and their recommendations. I've been getting tattoo for several years, so my personal tattoo aftercare is second nature and I am not a professional tattoo artist.

*I am not being endorsed or compensated for this blog post. I just really dig this product!

Thank for you hanging out with me!

Outfit of the Day : Interpretative Weirdness Style

Sometimes when I try to take outfit photos and I'm trying to be serious, they come off awkward and doofy. So I decided just have a little fun......hehe!

Sometimes I just need to get the weird out.

Phew.

Have a great weekend! Stay weird my friends!

Ink Stains?! No, Dalmatian Spots

I bought these pants a few summers ago at Forever 21. The pants caught my eye when I saw them on a mannequin and hunted them down as I thought, "Oh! Ink spots". I bought them, wore them and got, "Hey look, dalmatian pants".  Not that dalmatian's aren't rad, but it made me look at the pants differently and thus I started to think they looked ridiculous on me. I know it's stupid, but hey! I'm human.

Enough time has passed, so I pulled them out of the closet and paired them with a sheer button-up top and my trusty ponte knit blazer. I just can't believe I went the whole day without spilling something on them. Oh yeah!

I Dream of Shoes : Nyx Black

I was looking for leopard print loafers and I ordered the Nyx Black by Type Z instead, but I am glad that I did! I'm a big fan of the loafer style as they are different than a ballerina flat as I find the toe box on ballerina flats too restrictive on my toes. Not that I'm going to stop wearing ballerina flats, I just like a variety and these loafers get an 'A' in the versatility and comfort department. (They also get an A++ in the price department, $21.99!)

Thank you for hanging out with me!

What's Shakin' Bacon?

The weekend was filled with Spring cleaning, but first Tiki drinks were imbibed. Derek is shaking up come Coco Lopez cream of coconut for some Painkillers....the drink not the pills. Teehee!

Sunday was the day. The day we bought two new (to us) vintage gold club chairs, most likely from the 1960s. I don't talk too much about my love of home decor and mid-century furniture, but it's a passion and interest in our home. We have nicknamed our decorating style as "Mid-Century Macabre", mixing mid-century with taxidermy, bones and skulls, funerary items and other macabre art.

Derek and I like to hunt for; furniture, barware, and taxidermy on the weekends. We scour second hand shops, vintage and antique malls, estate sales and we love to get a good deal. The two chairs we bought were a great deal, as the vintage shop owner had the chairs cleaned and the cushions re-foamed while still keeping the integrity of the original gold fabric. Since we acquired these two pieces, the living room was turned into a Tetris game (we have a smallish apartment), yet when we put our two heads together (and me almost killing my back lifting our couch) we produced a set up that we are in love with! I moved some decor items around and Voila! a whole new perspective.

Sunday's attire was inspired by the 70+ degree weather. Derek and I indulged in some pizza at our favorite pizza place in Buffalo. Gotta fuel up before you start the job. Mmmmm, Gino's never stop making pizza. Never!

Even the skeleton got Spring cleaned. Sprung cleaned? Spring clean? Whatever. Mr. Bones got moved to the tattoo shop along with our toe pincher coffin. I was sad to see them both go, but the shop is like an extension of our home, so we get to decorate there too!

I think this little corner we set up is so cute and I think Mr. Bones is happy resting his bones in his new church chair at his new home.

And since our weekend doesn't stop at Sunday, here is a peak at Monday's second sitting of my 'Dead Mary' tattoo that is being worked on by my husband. The tattoo is inspired by my love of Derek's Dead Mary statues and all his kitschy and spooky art!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Thank you for hanging out with me!

I Dream of Shoes : Hudson-22

I'm thinking Spring, comfort and walkability, the Hudson-22 by C Label looks like it would fulfill all these departments. My husband says, "You're really pushing this Summer thing". Yes, yes I am.

Mock Thigh High Tights

Snatched up the last pair of these mock thigh high thighs by Be Wicked! from work and I love them.

Derek and I ran some errands and did some thrift shopping, so a comfy cotton dress along with my favorite cardigan was my outfit of choice. I got complimented on my messy hair and stockings, so that made me smile. Haha!

Thank you!

Artwork drawn by my awesome husband, Derek Hendrickson

Just a quick "Thank You!" to all my readers and those who support me and this blog. I enjoy reading everyone's comments and love all the people I have met along my blogging travels. I love blogging, because it gives me a sense of community as well as a creative outlet for writing and expressing myself. I love fashion and style, but it's all of you that makes this world that much more unique and rad!

The Red Jacket

I love the color red, I love read shoes, my hair is red, but for some reason when I wear red I feel like it's screaming, "LOOK AT MEEEE!!!". Well, I've got to get over this as my faithful black jacket (exactly the same as the style above) is getting retired. I bought the black Tripp NYC moto jacket about seven years ago and even though it's still in good shape, I'm not a size small jacket. I have never been a size small jacket in my adult life (wide shoulders), but it fit better back then and now it's just too tight. We had our fun together, now it's time to except I'm losing a wardrobe staple and to move onto wearing jackets that I do have and that do fit comfortably. I am one of those people who wear their favorite things until they are almost to pieces, I try to mend the item or re-purpose it into something, but I will also admit defeat.

I also lost a favorite button-up "Robert Smith" over-sized shirt in the great spring closet clean out. Sigh.

But obviously I'm not that broken up about it. Haha! I've just more shocked that the jacket hoarder needs to buy a new black jacket. Let the hunt begin!

Thank you for reading!

I Dream of Shoes : Ravier Booties

The Ravier Booties by Jeffrey Campbell are a way higher price point than what I like to feature on Shoe Thursday, but look at them...look at them. Whether you think they are ugly or awesome, they are definitely something! Mmmmm mmmmm!
