1920s Swing Dance

I had blogged about 1920s fashion inspiration for the Great Gatsby themed swing dance I was planning on attending. Well, Sunday was the dance and this was my outfit!

I always have a blast researching different fashion eras and learning about the hair and makeup of the time (thank you Youtube) and trying to recreate a look in my own way. I was also pretty delighted to pull everything I'm wearing from my own wardrobe and was flattered at all the compliments I received.

I love the loose description for 1920s makeup; pale face, dark eyes and red lips. Hrmmm, I can do that! I also solidified my belief that Siouxsie Sioux's makeup and (some) wardrobe was inspired at the 1920s and Egyptian Revival intermixed with punk and goth.

We clean up pretty well!

We didn't do any dancing as I'm not going to lie, I wasn't feeling well (again) and took it easy by hanging out at the bar. I have a doctor's appointment today, so I have a lot of questions that I'm hoping will get answered. I'm optimistic that it's a dietary issue as some other major factors have been ruled out. Positive thinking, positive thinking, POSITIVE THINKING!!! Hahahaha!!!

Friday Night Was Fun

Derek and I went out Friday night to get our wiggle on at a goth/punk night that our friend Bryan hosts. I felt like I haven't been out in forever, so I spent most of my time on the dance floor blowing off some steam.

Though dancing is always the main course, I can't help but get excited to get dressed up for an evening out. I finally got to wear my Joce Boss Boutique spider web skirt, which is AMAZING! I've had my far share of skater skirts, but this one is the best. The cut of the fabric, the way it's sewn together and the comfortable wide waist band=ahhh, I'm in love! Joce Boss Boutique is taking a short break, but I can't wait to add some more of her skirts to my wardrobe.

Wearing; off-the-shoulder top (H&M), skirt (Joce Boss Boutique), belt (c/o TOBI), winklepicker boots (Demonia via eBay), collar (old, from a Toronto boutique), ankh necklace (Alchemy Gothic, gift from Derek)

I was in such a good and goofy mood, that I was just snapping photos while I was dancing around, because I was truly enjoying myself! And I like to goofy around 99% of the time. Hehehe! Good times, good times indeed.

How is your weekend so far?

RIP My Favorite Sweater

My favorite drapey sweater is gone. I looked every where and I am accepting the fact that it is gone. I think I left it somewhere by mistake and I'm mourning its loss. Silly, I know, but I loved that darn thing and the more I wore it the more distressed and awesome it became. I will miss you old friend, nothing can replace you.

The 90s Called

I bought this dress back in December at Charlotte Russe when they were having a sale around Christmas. It was purchased with this tunic dress for very little monies, as I thought they would make nice additions to the 'comfy and easy to wear' section of the closet.

Oh the kitty, you ask? He/She is an adorable little creature whom we've been feeding. We believe they are a stray and we soon will be taking them to a vet to get them checked out (see if they are chipped) and then find a forever home. Unfortunately I am very allergic to cats, which is heart breaking since this feline would be very welcome (if we can't find the owner) into our home. Such a sweetheart that basically adopted us. Sigh....

Gust of wind shot

Yeah, this outfit looks very 90s and I wore this exact type of outfit (except I would be wearing combat boots) in my youth. Crazy to think at 35 that the 90s clothing I wore are now considered vintage. So weird!

Wearing; black and white floral dress (Charlotte Russe), leggings and flats (Target), earrings (H&M), Sisters of Mercy necklace (etsy), blue sandstone pendant (flea market), sunglasses (AJ Morgan via Cats Like Us)

Other than taking care of the kitty, having the art show and recovering from last week's trip to the emergency room, it looks like things are going to be very mellow for the next few weeks. I have to admit that I like it when the calendar isn't filled up with scribblings of things and/or events, I like to hermit in my house from time to time.

Creepy Tiki Art Show

The guy's at the tattoo shop put on their 3rd art show untitled, Creepy Tiki Art Show. Pretty sure you know what the theme of the art show was.....TIKI!!!!

Even Mr. Bones was dressed for the occasion!

I had a piece in the show. My "Shrunken Chapeau" is a vintage straw hat with little shrunken heads. I made the shrunken heads from felt, animal bones, metal rings, twine and thread. I had a lot of fun making the hat (sorry about the poor picture) and was happy to be able to participate.

Bone head.
I was channeling my love for shrunken heads with my hair. Hehe!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Frivolous and Trendy?

Derek surprised me this 'So Goth I'm Dead' bag by Killstar Clothing months ago, because he knows my sense of humor. The bag was seen with an outfit in this blog post and I realized that I haven't included it on the blog nor chatted about it.

A lot of Killstar fashions have shown up on Youtubers, bloggers and instagrammers and I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about this brand and/or brands like Killstar. These types of brands can be pricey and a lot of people are wearing the fashions, so is it frivolous to own trendy brands? Nahhhh, I say if you like something that could be considered trendy within a subculture and you really like it, buy it! Personally I wear whatever I like and I like a variety in my closet.....especially when it has kitsch value!

I believe the key to shopping the trends is to incorporate these "trendy" pieces into your own style, so being particular and educated when shopping (i.e-read reviews, use coupons, shop sales, etc.) can only benefit you. BUT-I always advise to not get too wrapped up in the 'must have it' mindset that trends can generate and only buy if it's something you really want, even if it seems frivolous. Gotta live a little from time to time! Hehe!

Wearing: white blouse (Bettie Page Clothing via clothing swap), cropped pants (thrift), concho belt (Target), bat flats (Iron Fist), hair scarf ($1 estate sale buy), coffin pin (gift from Derek), So Goth I'm Dead (Killstar, gift from Derek)

A little health update: After seeing one doctor and ruling out what I thought it was (pre-existing issue), I then had to wait to see a new doctor, and in the mean time I was suffering everyday. Yesterday I left work and  went to the emergency room for the health issues I've been experiencing since I just couldn't take the pain any more. (This was the outfit I wore to work, so at least I had a cute outfit for the hospital.) Happy to report that after blood work, testing and a cat scan, everything will resolve itself in time, which I am so relieved! I will still be seeing the doctor at the end of this month, to follow up and chat about some questions and other health concerns.

It's been a crazy few months and I'm ready to have some boring down time! Hahaha!

Goth Day at the Beach

On Sunday we attended the 7th annual Goth Day at the Beach. Our friend Jenny has been putting this fun beach visit for years and though we haven't been to one since 2012, we were very happy to have been able to make it this year.

Steve dugging the beach 'grave' complete with tombstone. Hehehe!

Jen being brave and getting 'buried'. By the way, there was a Jenny, Jenn and Jen in attendance. *Wink*

There was a dark cloud hovering right over us, we didn't mind!

Happy Goth Beach Day!!!

I'm such a 'ass'. LOL!

Just wanted to share a little bit of the fun and I wanted to thank Jenn Sojka for the group photos.

The Halloween Hunt Has Begun!

Ohhhh, I'm so excited as the Halloween Hunt 2016 has officially begun! I have to admit I kicked it off all by myself when I stopped at Michael's craft store for some felt (for cool project I will share in a future blog) and picked out some chalkboard coffin's that can hang on the wall. I bought them as an idea to use as a frame for some of our antique casket plaques.

Can't wait to add these to the living room wall!

Oh wait! Silly me kicked it off even earlier as I bought fabric from Joann Fabrics to use as curtains for our Halloween Kitsch-en! Sheesh, I have a bad memory. Hahaha! This pattern makes me heart sing and I am so glad I waited till I found the perfect fabric to match my color scheme. PS-I made the striped valances too!

Today's trip took us to Joann Fabrics (with Derek this time) and we picked out the solar powered skulls you see in the background. I can't wait to see what they look like once they are all powered up from the sun. They had smaller jack-o-lantern lawn stakes (I may need to go back for those) and smaller purple skulls. So beyond cool!

We also picked out a few kitchen towels and something we've been needing...a drying mat! I couldn't believe that Joann's had Halloween themed drying mats, I was so happy that I started jumping up and down in the aisle hugging my bundle. So happy, in fact, that we decided to buy two and have one as a back up. Sigh, I love this time of the year.

Have you started finding Halloween treasures?

More Humid Than Humid : It's Too Damn Hot

Dress last seen on blog in 2013!?

As I have mentioned before, we are having a ridiculously hot and humid summer. I'm pretty much running out of outfits to wear for work, as I quickly realized I don't many styles with halters, spaghetti straps or sleeveless garments that are work appropriate. I tend to wear my Tiki/Hawaiian section of my closet to work, as working in a retro store I want to wear retro (40s, 50s, 60) in order to represent the style of the store. Makes sense right?

Now mind you, I love vintage from many decades, yet this 80s does 50s button-up halter dress speaks to my love of kitsch...and the 80s. Hahaha! I always squeal with delight when I find a tropical print with a black background, it just makes me so happy and it's easy to style. I paired the dress (vintage via eBay) with some over-the-top 80s zebra earrings (vintage-from antique mall), reproduction Coco Jo's Tiki pendant (Charcoal Designs) with a chiffon scarf (estate sale find), vinyl belt I always wear and black flats (H&M).

Side tangent-the 'love' tattoo is a tattoo regret that needs to be covered up.

I love this Rob Zombie meme, just cracks me up. So, anywho I hope you are enjoying your Summer (or Winter) wherever you are and I hope this weather breaks so I can stop living in a tank top and bike shorts.

Kitsch Picks: Artwork by Shayne of the Dead

(Please click on bold text to link you to product)

Shayne Bohner is the artist behind these beautiful images and more at his etsy shop, Stuff of the Dead. These two prints struck me as I love the mood, colors and the expressions on both of the subjects faces. I also can't deny that I love religious-inspired artwork. Check out Shayne's instagram page for more eye candy!

PS-sorry I've been a little quiet, dealing with some health issues and hoping to get some answers soon!

You've Got Mail

I got a surprise package from Black Willow Gallery over a week ago and it was filled with all these lovely items. I featured their beautiful art on a kitsch picks and am so delighted to have some of my own to enjoy!

I love the little card it came on. I dig anything with a lip print and even more so with Vampire fangs. Hehe!

A big thank you to Lupe and Saide from Black Willow Gallery for giving me a much needed pick me up. I love wearing other people's art and also decorating my house with all sorts of creepy (and cute) art prints.

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Tattoo Convention

Greetings friends, this weekend was the Niagara Tattoo Expo in Niagara Falls, NY. I hung out with my husband, Bryan and Jason from their tattoo shop Ink, Inc. Tattoo Parlor all day Saturday and Sunday. Though this convention was very slow in terms of foot traffic, everyone was busy tattooing or getting tattooed.

Early morning on Saturday.

All of Derek's t-shirt designs in the background.

Bryan getting a very large neck/face piece by Jason. Ouch!

Derek tattooing our friend Dave.

Taking a little break to have some watermelon with Jess from 135 Art Collective.

And me at the end of a 12+ hour day on Saturday. Hahaha!

The convention was surprisingly slow, but had a good time and got to meet some rad people, see a lot of friendly faces and view a lot of beautiful tattoo's and art. We already have our plan of attack for next year's convention, muahaha!!! Okay, it's nothing maniacal, just things to improve upon.

 How was your weekend?

Kitsch Picks: Life's A Stitch

(Please click on bold text to link you to product)

Ahhhhh, these adorable framed cross stitches by Life's a Stitch are perfect for those like to add a little macabre to their decor. You can really tell the care and detail that go into each one of these cross stitch pieces, they are to die for. Hehe!

As I really look at the grouping I picked out, I do believe they would all look lovely arranged together on a wall, just as I have them pictured!
