The Mission (UK)

On Friday September 6th, Derek, our friend Jason and I had the privilege to see The Mission perform at Lee's Palace in Toronto, Ontario. I am SO glad that we got to go to the show and not only to see the very talented musician's who make up The Mission, but to see Craig Adams (guitar) and Wayne Hussey (vocal, guitar) who were responsible for album First, Last and Always while they were in The Sisters of Mercy. Though I know the history of both bands, it dawned on me (at the show) while listening to Craig Adams guitar that is he played guitar on "Walk Away" and "Poison Door", two of my favorite Sisters songs. It was a pretty rad moment. <Big Smiles>

Derek is really excited to see The Mission. LOL!!!

I'm glad I didn't wear a jacket as it was very hot in the venue, then again wearing a faux leather vest probably wasn't the brightest idea, but a little sweat has never stopped me.

I definitely recommend you seeing The Mission if they come close to where you live, you will really enjoy the experience and the music. I left the show feeling inspired and enchanted.

What I am wearing:
-lace dress, $8 thrift store
-faux leather vest, Forever 21
-boots, Dolce Vita for Target-purchased from Amazon.com

Just a Hint of Red for Billy Idol : Red and Black Week

Yesterday was still on the cooler side, which made me a happy gal since we were going to see Billy Idol!

I'm wearing my dagger leggings by Lip Service, cotton elastic waist shirt (thrift $2.50), black cotton boat neck top (thrift $1), cone studded belt by me, cowboy boots, 'porkpie' hat from Forever 21, and my new scarab beetle necklace that I got from our trip to Pittsburgh. My new necklace makes me so happy as it's a nice souvenir from a fun trip with new friends.

My hint of red is my lip gloss and my ring finger is painted red. Hehe!

We had a good time at Billy Idol despite the crowd, I have to admit the older I get the more I get uncomfortable and panicky in large outdoor standing-only crowds. People get drunk, rude and pushy, we couldn't even get anywhere near the stage because of the sea of people with their lawn chairs. Oh well, we just watched the big screen and sang and danced along. Derek and I were excited because he played some Generation X songs, like opening the set with "Ready, Set, Go", he also played his solo favorite of mine, "Flesh for Fantasy", which (though cheesy) I love. Billy's voice is great and he's still sexy as hell. Me-OW!

He's "rebel yell"-ing here.
Oh Billy, I love you too.

I've already seen some awesome shows this year and I'm still in awe at the fact that it's June already! Wow, my Mama was right, time fly's when you're having fun!

Thank you for reading and Happy Red & Black Week!

Adventures : Dead Can Dance In Philadelphia

Photobucket
photo I took after their performance, before their 3 encores.

Derek and I bought tickets to see Dead Can Dance in Philadelphia, PA rather than Toronto, ON (Canada- it's only 1 1/2 hours away from Buffalo vs. 6 hours to Philly), because my brother's wedding rehearsal was the same day as the Toronto, ON show and there was no way we were going to miss seeing DCD live. I'm a big fan of traveling to see shows and we have the luxury to do it every-so-often, so off to Philly on the Megabus we go!

They performed at the Kimmel Center, it was amazing!

Never in my wildest dreams did I never think I'd get that choked up over seeing a band's performance, I was completely blown away. Lisa Gerrard's voice can only be described as magical and angelic, while Brendan Perry's voice is smooth and powerful, combined together gave me goosebumps. Hearing them on record is nothing compared to seeing them perform live with the many talented musicians accompanying them on stage. It was totally worth the ticket price, the trip, the effort, it was a magikal experience.

There set list for the Kimmel Center performance was posted here: click here for the DCD set list.

I was really blown away by "Cantara" live, one of my personal favorite songs to dance too, many memories of twirling on the dance floor at our defunct goth club.

Here is a photo that Derek snapped on the streets of Philly after the performance, at least second I had to control my dress from a giant gust of wind. I think some passers-by got a flash of my knickers, oops!

When I travel, I like to pack light, so dresses are usually my go-to look. This dress was a sale item at $15 at Marshall's (it's a designer discount store), I was drawn to the way it looked like two pieces with the crocheted overlay top. It looked a little too frumpy on me, so I wore an elastic belt (which is on the mannequin, yet covered by the overlay) to give me more of a waist. I'm a sucker for babydoll's and I have found my way back into loving them more and seeking them out while shopping.

Is there any clothing that is an essential for you when you travel? Are you a Dead Can Dance fan?

Thanks for reading!!
