A Long Overdue Cover Up

Many, many moons ago (like 15 years worth), I went to Canada to get another tattoo done by an artist who had done a few tattoo's for me. This time I wanted a design of a sacred heart with "love" in the middle and two skeletal cherubs holding onto the banner. Andddddddddddd I got this. I remember describing to him what I wanted and when he was drawing it out in front of me, I didn't like it. In fact, it was no where near the style I had envisioned. I went through with him; finishing the drawing, asking me if I like it, approving the design, making the stencil and permanently tattooing it on me. I hated it then and I hate it even more now that it's been 15 years later.

The moral of the story: I should have said something. I should have said I didn't like it and I shouldn't have had it tattooed on me. It wasn't the artist's fault, it was my fault. Lesson learned and learn from my experience. SAY SOMETHING!!!!!

I'm red because we just finished

Lucky for me, the bad decision can be covered up. Not all bad tattoo's can be covered up, so I am grateful that Derek's handy work will produce a tattoo on my back that I'm not embarrassed to show off. I won't hear, "Oh I didn't know you had a tattoo there", almost every time I wear a sundress or anything that has a low back (which didn't happen to often as I was covering it up on purpose) reminding me of the terrible piece of crap on my back.

I don't know why I waited so long to have it covered up, especially with Derek saying, "I can't wait to cover that up for you!". Hahaha! I guess the time was right. *Wink*

Kiss Kiss, My Bangs

Hello friends! I gave my bang the ol' snip, snip and I'm very happy! Its been about 6-7 years since I've had "Betty bangs" as once I got out of the (vicious and annoying) cropped bang growing out cycle, I had the fear of going back. Butttttttttt, I'm glad I did. *Wink*

Jewelry: earrings by The Pumpkin Coven, bone necklaces by Purgatory Playthings

It's funny that it felt so familiar to cut my bangs, I thought I would have forgotten, but I wore them for years. Cutting my bangs is like riding a bicycle?! Hahahaha! So yeah, hair. I've been busy with my etsy shop, selling on ebay and helping with two different shops, so I haven't had too much time for outfit posts. Frankly, what I've been wearing has been nothing too exciting to feature. *Shrugs*

On another note, I was mistaken and the "I'm with Creepy" tank top (as shown in this post) is now available on Sourpuss's website!

The Darkling Tag

Hello friends! I was tagged by Natalie (Gothy Two Shoes) for the Darkling Tag! Now I must tag three bloggers, I tag Syl at There's Bats in My Coffee, Julie Ann at Fluffy the Vampire Slayer and Sarrah at Giggles in the Darkness

What is your favourite candle scent? Witch's Brew from Yankee Candle
Do you have a favourite book? The Egyptian Book of the Dead: The Book of Going Forth by Day
Are you a tea or coffee person? I like both, but I'm a *must have coffee in the morning* person
What is your favourite perfume/cologne? I like musky and woodsy scents, right now I'm wearing an essential oil that is cedar and amber
Do you have a celebrity crush? I think Clive Standon (Rollo) on Vikings is pretty cute, but I will always love Robert Smith.
If you could change your name to a stereotypical 90s/2000s gothy name, what would it be? Batty McGothson (LOL!)
What are your top three tips for surviving hot weather while black clad? wearing natural fibers, staying out of the sun and investing in good sunscreen
What song always makes you happy (doesn't have to be a goth band?) Groove Is In The Heart, by Deee-Lite (same answer as Natalie's!)
Are you active in the arts (eg. Play an instrument, paint, write, etc)? I work at a tattoo shop with my husband, but I don't draw or tattoo. I like to DIY and decorate and craft, as well as sew from time to time.
What is your number one non-gothy hobby? Visiting Tiki bars, making Tiki drinks and hanging out in our hut. I don't necessary think it as non-goth as, #gothslovetikitoo Hehehe!

Thought Provokers:

If you could be a supernatural creature, what would it be and why? A Banshee. I scream, you die.

What horror monster-bases super power would you have? I kill you with my voice and I'd be in a sweet 80s post punk band. LOL!!!!

Do you feel confident or comfortable interacting with other Goths or gothy people (online or irl)? Why or why not? Of course, I learned a lot about myself while haunting our local goth clubs and traveling to concerts, etc. I have a harder time interacting with goths online as I'm afraid of people taking things too personally and getting bent out of shape, hence why I try and keep my blog lighthearted.

Is there something you wish there was more of in your subculture? More understanding and patience, people need to stop calling each other elitists. Sigh.....

Care to share an embarrassing story related to your "darkliness"? Ha! There are many embarrassing stories of just my "me-ness". Derek did push me towards William Faith (at a Faith and the Muse concert) and kept saying, "My wife loves you!!!". I wanted to DIE as Derek was taking a photo of the two of us.

How are you at DIY? I think I'm pretty good. I'm creative with taking someone else's junk and turning it into our cool junk. Hahaha!

Confessional (aka True or False):

I love watching cheese romance films. True, but the ones I like I don't necessarily deem cheesy. I like romantic period dramas, like Pride and Prejudice.

I ALWAYS remember to was off my makeup at night. True

I sleep with plushies. True. I sleep with an Ice Bat and an Ugly Ghost (Ugly Dolls)

I wear non-black pyjamas most nights. True. I actually love colorful Halloween or tropical pattern pj's (mostly worn with old black band t-shirts)

I think Andrew Eldrich is overrated. False, but I do think he is ridiculous. ;)

I don't like vampires. False, I like ones that don't sparkle.

I don't like clubs. False, one of the places I feel the most comfortable.

I don't enjoy graveyards. False, another place I feel comfortable and at peace.

Blood makes me queasy. True and False, depends on the situation.

I'd sooner faint than pet a spider. False

I don't like haunted houses. True. I don't like being scared and don't like people jumping out at me or touching me. If it's a REAL haunted house with history, than I'm okay with it.

I've never read Dracula. False, but it's been a long time since I've read it.

I think "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a long and boring song. True and False. I think it's a great song, I'm just tired of hearing it.

Thank you for reading my answers to the Darkling Tag and thank you to Natalie for tagging me! :)

Until next time!

Craft Along with GIY: Food and Beverage

I'm excited to participate in G.I.Y's August theme, Food and Beverage.

I decided to share my favorite Tiki beverage, the 1944 Trader Vic's Mai Tai recipe. You can read what Beachbum Berry writes about the Mai Tai, quite an interesting read. We love crafting different cocktails and experimenting with different recipes, yet the Mai Tai will always be my favorite!

Ingredients:
Rhum Clément VSOP Martinique rum
Appleton Estate Extra dark Jamaican rum
Orange Curacao
Orgeat (Almond syrup)
Sugar syrup (aka simple syrup)

Copied from the Beachbum Berry's website:

In your shaker pour 1 ounce each fresh lime juice, Rhum Clément VSOP Martinique rum, and Appleton Estate Extra dark Jamaican rum; 1/2 ounce orange Curacao; 1/2 ounce Latitude 29 Formula Orgeat (I just use Monin Almond Syrup or make our own); and 1/4 ounce sugar syrup. Add at least 2 cups of crushed ice, then shake well for around 10 seconds. Pour unstrained into a double old-fashioned glass. Sink your spent lime shell in the drink, and garnish with a mint sprig.

Derek approved!

Aloha and Mahalo to Bane from G.I.Y for inspiring this post!

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Frolicking in the Shire: Renn Faire 2017

Up and at em' early on a Saturday (8/5) morning to travel to the Sterling, NY Renaissance Festival!

This year, the weather was perfect and we decided to rent a cabin close by, so we didn't have to drive 2.5 hours home after being exhausted from a long day. (And the guys drinking all the mead, lol!)

I didn't take a lot of photos as I was too busy with; archery, throwing axes, playing other games and watching the shows. We also did a bit of shopping and Derek got a new belt and we visited our favorite vendor for some handmade soaps and essential oils. We're gonna stink so good! Hahahaa!

We had a great time this year and you can check out past years in which we enjoyed the faire: 2016 and 2015.

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Shapeless Black Things and a Bone Necklace

New to us couch was purchased from a thrift store last month
side note: professional cleaning was more than the couch. Hahaha!

As Mutant Stomp Friends coined the fashion term 'shapeless black things', which is the perfect way to describe the dress I purchased from eBay. The brand is ZANZEA and it comes directly from China, something I was a little weary about when ordering in terms of sizing, quality, shipping, etc. I have been searching for flowy, oversized garments that were not made of purely stretch material and when I came across ZANZEA, I decided to take a chance.

I am very pleased with my purchase. I had searched in local boutiques as well as etsy and couldn't find what I was looking for, especially when material came into play. I don't know why flowy=stretch material, that I find unflattering in the Summer. I don't want my dress or tunic or top to cling to me when I'm hot or have to worry about my under garment lines showing, because of the clingy materials. Basically I want to be comfortable when complaining about the humidity. Hahaha!

Another eBay purchase was the Phosphorus Bone necklace by Restyle. This is my second Restyle item purchase and this time I am impressed and happy, as my first purchase was a dress that left me with terrible taste in my mouth (mentioned in this blog). The necklace is really nice, made of  pewter metal and the shape of the bones are well formed and securely put together. As a result of this purchase, I have my eye on a few other Restyle jewelry pieces .

Wearing; dress (ZANSEA, eBay), necklace (Restyle, eBay), bone hoops (Martha Rotten, etsy)

Have you made any recent purchases that have impressed you?

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Tryin' To Stay Cool

Hello friends! How are you doing? Me? Well, I'm warm.....to be exact, I'm sweaty. Oh so glamorous to admit, but it's the truth. The question is: why did I bother to put any makeup on?! Surprisingly my eyebrows haven't slide off my face. Hahahaha!

I've been wearing my hair up and off my face, as humid hot weather does not agree with big teased hair. (Boooo!) The hair got pulled up into a ponytail, misc. pieces are bobby pinned up and I tied a piece of tulle around my ponytail and made a bow, Voila!, new favorite hair accessory!

Wearing; dress (thrifted), lace up flats (eBay), earrings (thrifted), Unicursal Hexagram pendant (Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo, New Orleans), Trick or Treat Graveyard Purse (by Sweet Midnight via Cats Like Us), sunglasses (Cats Like Us)

Gosh, I really love this purse!!!

How do you try and stay cool when you are feeling hot and sweaty? *Asking this question while sipping a iced filled margarita*

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Ruched Dress and Confidence

Hello friends! This past Friday was our friend Bryan's dance night and that means it was time to get gussied up and stay out past our bedtimes. Good music, good friends and putting on our pointy dancing shoes is always worth it!

Don't understand what I was doing. Bat pose? Hahaha!

I don't wear a lot of fitted clothing or "bodycon" as a buzz word that the current fashion industry uses to describe clothing. I wanted to get over my current focus on the negative things I have been feeling and pull out something from the closet that has been ignored for quite a long time. After accessorizing the ruched style spaghetti strap dress with a little spider web shrug (it's from another dress), I quite enjoyed wearing this outfit!

Wearing; ruched dress (thrifted), spider web shrug (from a Lip Service dress, eBay), stockings (Lip Service, gifted), winklepickers (Demonia, eBay), collar (store in Toronto, ON), bat necklace (Alchemy Gothic), studded belt (thrifted), bat belt (eBay), spiked bracelet (eBay), bone cuff (Renn Faire, gift from Derek)

I'm not a makeup guru by any means, but I always searching for foundation that is a close match to my pale skin. I recently ordered a few things from ulta.com which included the Total Control Drop Foundation by NYX Cosmetics. This foundation comes in 24 shades and goes from extremely light to very deep, which I think is amazing! I ordered the shade Pale as I am usually the palest shade, but in this case I ordered the second palest shade. Oh my word, Pale is TOO pale for me! The foundation will now be club makeup as I prefer to look a little more "alive" in the daytime. Hahahaha! So, if you are extremely pale or want to pale out your skin, the Total Control Drop Foundation by NYX Cosmetics may be right for you. Notes: The foundation is a liquid foundation and can be a little messy, it took some finesse with the application.

Thank you for reading, until next time!
