GingerDEAD

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! I hope you had a Merry Yule and I wish you a happy upcoming New Year.

This was my Christmas Eve Day outfit for work. We were open for a shortened day and I have to admit the last minute frantic shoppers crack me up. It cracks me up, because I've been working in retail for over 15 years and nothing surprises me any more, so I have to be entertained by something! I think it's the way I get through the holiday season.......

I have to mention my cute GingerDEAD cardigan by Sourpuss Clothing. I don't own any holiday sweaters, so when we got this one in the shop, I snatched it up! The skeleton gingerbread people make me smile.

So, Happy Holidays my dear readers. I hope you get through any family struggles that face you and celebrate (or don't celebrate) in your own way. The holiday season can be lonely, but just remember it's your life and you should do whatever makes YOU happy. Don't let anyone take away your inner light....ever.

2015 does 90s does 60s

dress styled here.

This little cranberry colored dress from Hot Topic is a flashback to 90s fashion, yet it's also a flashback to 60s styles. The 90s were heavily influenced by 60s fashions and it's no wonder why my Mom would say to me, "I can't get excited about any of these clothes (while shopping at the mall) I wore all of this when I was a teenager!" I was excited about it then and I'm still excited about it now! The 90s trend has inspired me to revisit the 60s styles that I love and purchase this lovely dress.

Vintage babydoll (image source) dress I would love to own!

The fashion experts tell us that we shouldn't wear fashions that we've already worn before. I say 'pfffffffft' to that "rule". Hehehe!

Birthday Week

Hello dear friends! The holidays have put me in a holiDAZE and I can barely keep my days straight, but I can tell you that last week was a grand week which included my birthday. This past Saturday I turned 35 and celebrated with friends all week long. In the past few years I haven't given much of a care about my birthday, but this year I was in the mood to celebrate!

I had mentioned in my last post that we went to some antique malls on Monday and I scored this beautiful vintage bag to go with my Hawaiian muumuu's and Tiki outfits. It was the perfect bag to take with me to Cantina Loco's new Cantiki Tuesdays! Our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant is having a Tiki night and it's like a dream come true. Mmmm, so good!

Now it brings me to Wednesday night when a bunch of my gang went roller skating with me! I grew up going to roller rinks every week, so being on skates just makes me so happy. My birthday was a good excuse to round up the friends and roller boogie!

crappy photo, cool cake

Yeah, my friends are awesome. Mike and Judy surprised me with a cake at the roller rink and guess who's on it......me, well it's Pink Taco. Hahaha! Pink Taco was my 2014 Halloween costume and you can read all about it from this blog post.  I still can't stop laughing about the cake. Brilliant, hilarious and creative!

birthday outfit. simple and warm.

Saturday the 19th was my actual birthday and after work we went to back to Cantina Loco for a birthday taco and tequila. After the restaurant we headed over to Mohawk Place to see some bands and it was pretty awesome to spend my birthday evening in a place I love so much.....especially since it had been closed for quite some time.

necklace I'm wearing in the photo above that is a gift from Julie Ann and Andrew

Amongst all the beautiful and generous gifts I received from family and friends, Derek presented me with this beautiful gaff*. Derek commissioned this piece which was made by our talented friend Brian who creates beautiful pieces of artwork. I was blown away by the gift as well as Brian's talent! I love also love that Derek said to me, "I realized I have never given you a gaff before". So sweet and I'm tearing up just typing this out.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Winter Solstice and however you celebrate this holiday season!

*gaff-The “gaff” of interest to us is the one that began as a gimmicked or rigged prop often used by magicians or illusionists to imitate sword swallowers. The evolution of “gaff” was them applied to a created “creature” such as a “FeeJee mermaid,” to pull people into the sideshow. The term “gaff” comes from the “gaff” fishing tool used to pull fish in; in sideshow terms, a “gaff” can be used at sideshows to “hook” or pull people into the sideshow

It Was A Nice Day

Holy crap, it was in the 60's yesterday! Talk about unseasonably warm weather......but I'm loving it!

Hahaha!!!

Derek and I took advantage of the warm weather and went to a few antique malls east of Buffalo. We came home with more Christmas kitsch and some Hawaiian items. I found a muumuu for $8, I am pretty excited!

It was so warm that both of us took off our leather jackets at some point and I quickly realized I did not need that scarf around my neck. Dressing for this weather has been a bit of a mind f*ck.

Yet, we are not missing shoveling and having a pile of snow in the back yard that's taller than Derek. Nope, not at all. I also don't care if we have a white Christmas, last winter traumatized me and I've basically lived in Buffalo my whole life. In other words, I hate snow.

I don't hate wearing jackets and it being a little bit colder than it has been with this freak weather, but I'm not going to complain. I'm just going with it....as I have no choice. LOL!

I've Been Busy

Hello friends! I've been oh-so-busy this week with work, events and having Derek's cousin stay with us. (I do like having house guests!) I just wanted to share an image from a blog post I wrote over at the Cats Like Us blog, Sneak Preview: Holiday Dresses. I am loving the dress I modeled, Rosina 1940s Swing Dress. It's the perfect LBD and it even has pockets!!!!

How is your week going? Any big plans this weekend?

Just A Little Kitschmas

Derek and I went out looking for Christmas decorations yesterday and since we love kitsch and vintage-inspired decor, we opted to visit a few local antique shops and co-ops. We came home with a few neat pieces to add to our sparse collection.

I'm not a Christmas fanatic and got a 'bah humbug' attitude from working in retail for so many years, but being with Derek has made it a lot of fun. We do our own thing, in our own way and make the holidays our own. There is too much pressure people put on themselves with baking, cooking, shopping, family gatherings, etc. Pfffft. Just enjoy some holiday cheer (wine) and chill out!

blow mold toy solider :)

Merry Kitschmas my dear readers! Off to find some more weirdness!

Mod Bats

I love Mod fashion. I like to incorporate elements into my personal style like Peter Pan collars, black & white, and geometric prints, like checkers. With my goal to 'mix it up' and wear all the pieces in my wardrobe, I pulled out my Mode Merr pencil skirt and went with the 60s-inspired monochromatic leg/shoe combination.

shirt styled herecardigan styled here and here, skirt styled here

This is one of my favorite work looks that I've put together this year! Since we've been having a very mild Autumn I've been able to experiment a little more rather than being buried under layers. It's hard to try and tuck all the layers (undershirts, long sleeve t-shirts, etc) under your clothing and not look lumpy or feel too constricted. I think Julie Ann and I could write a book about 'how to layer' in the winter.

All I can think of when I'm getting dressed is Randy from A Christmas Story saying, "I can't put my arms down!"

Hehehe!

Weirdy Tiki

trailer trash leggings featured here

I was in quite the weird-y (word Derek often uses) mood on Sunday morning! After a full and exciting Small Business Saturday at work, I was trying to hype myself up for the first Sunday shift of the holiday season.....since we're normally closed.

I was having a really incredibly tough time trying to figure out what to wear and then I remembered my goal: mix it up, wear what you haven't worn in a while. I wanted to be warm and wear something comfortable since we were running errands and visiting a friend after work, so Voila!. The colors in the Too Fast cardigan went great with the Trailer Trash leggings by Sourpuss!

I also wear this (slightly too big) lace dress with EVERYTHING. Talk about a thrift find-wardrobe staple- holy grail! *Cues angels singing* Hey, a little black lace dress does pretty much go with everything....

It even goes with you when you grab a wooden Tiki and act like a fool! Side note: I think my face is matching the Tiki's face on my cardigan. Hahahaha!!!
