Outfit of the Day : Bandana Print

"I feel bizzare" is what I said to Derek, in regards to wearing red and wearing red bandana print to boot. I love western style anything, so it's not a surprise that I was drawn to this Hell Bunny top at work.

I did hesitate on buying the top because of the white buttons, they made me cringe, so after swapping them for a set of black buttons I was happy. Small changes can make a big difference, just have to use your imagination.

I styled the top with a high waisted 80s skirt that I got for $3.50 while thrifting. The skirt is perfect for swing dancing and wearing crop shirt styles with added bonus of pockets! I added my cross belt, coffin watch and my beat up buckle boots to complete the look.

I'm also rockin' a Cramps pin to keep it spooky.
Hehehe!

Have you ever swapped buttons or clasps on a clothing item that made a huge difference?

Shoes! OMG! : Marnina Studded 4-Eye Shoe

I realize I have a tendency to neglect featuring shoes with heels for Shoes! OMG! Thursdays, I'm not a hater, but I rarely wear heels and thus often forget about them. Ooops, I don't mean to neglect you lovely heels! Well, the Marnina Studded 4-Eye Shoe by Dr. Marten has got my attention. I love the shape of the shoe, the patent leather and the studded details, I could picture Lux Interior of The Cramps rockin' these.

Tiki & Friends!

Our friend's were in town visiting which means when you come to our house, we dress you up and give you Tiki drinks!

The guests of honor, Bea and Dan
Dan is now converted to Tiki, muahahhaa!!!!

A lot of fun, lots of tasty libations and Exotica playing in the background. The best thing Bea said was, "Why is your home bar more Tiki than some of the actual Tiki bars I've been too!?". Huge compliment, we're thrilled!

Phew! I've had a whirlwind of good times this past weekend and into early this week, staying up past my bedtime, seeing Project Pitchfork and traveling to Pittsburgh, PA to hang out at the Tiki Lounge and meet new friends.

Candid photo of me seeing Project Pitchfork in Rochester, NY.
My fourth time seeing them, great show!

Now to rest up from all the adventures. *Wink*

I hope everyone is wonderful!

Club Night : I Love Wearing Too Much Jewelry

 What I wore:
shrug : thrift store
lace babydoll dress: thrift store
pointy buckle boots: Demonia, second hand from ebay
spider web stockings : leg avenue
assorted gothy accessories

You can't see my outfit very well due to the fact that my camera took some crappy photos and when I went to upload the (poorly) edited ones to blogger, they look hideous. So, here is a black and white photo to give you a general idea.

Hey blogger, why are you making the bottom of my photos so dark!?

Nothing too exciting, comfortable and easy to wear. I've been looking for an opportunity to wear the babydoll dress as it's been sitting in the closet for over a month. The dress is very low cut and my friend (who was very drunk, lol) pointed out that I was wearing something that showed cleavage! Yes, I normally dress like a nun compared to other people's club outfits. What can I say, I usually like to be covered up, but this dress was a perfect reason to show off my Alchemy Gothic ankh necklace. I like to decorate my decolletage, wooo hoo!

We have lots of friends in town for this long weekend, so I hope everyone enjoys themselves and thank you for reading!

Outfit of the Day : Wind and Hats Don't Mix

I threw this on for my thrift day (Wednesdays!) and Derek really liked the combo, so even though I didn't think too much of it, I snapped a few photos due to his approval.

It's super windy out today and though I know it's not good hat-wearing-weather, I still wore my newest hat addition (to the collection) anyways. Gusts of wind make for funny photo sessions, I'm holding onto my hat while falling over, hehehehee!

Hold on tight!

The outfit was mostly based around the long cardigan-like top I got at my favorite thrift store for $2.50, it's layered over a loose-fitted tank from H&M, leggings, hat from Forever 21, and my trusty old creepers. I really like the hem of the black cardigan thingy, I think it will be a wardrobe staple this summer.

image source: forever 21-hat is sold out

This hat style is something I have been looking and lusting after for years, I call it 'The Mission' style hat, as in the style of hat that Wayne Hussey wears. Of course it's not the exact same, but it appeases my need for a big hat which also doubles as sun protection!

Hey, this outfit turned out to be a little more informative and insightful into my style than I thought! Hahahaha!

Swing Dance : Inspired by 80s Rockabilly

Hahaha!

A month has flown by since last month's swing dance, so (Sunday) it was time to get gussied up and put on our dancing shoes. Derek and I had been listening to The Stray Cats, The Polecats and The Rockats (80s neo-rockabilly!) all day, so our outfits reflected the time period in rockabilly that we both love.....fashion too! I really enjoy the '80s does the 50s' fashions, in fact I'm on the hunt for some dresses to wear to future dances.

I styled my pink polka dot dress by Living Dead Souls with a black button-up shirt over the dress, in which I tied in the front and added my awesome atomic pin by The Crave Yardwhich was a gift from the lovely Miss Beth

My teased bouffant was held into place with the help of a black and pink zebra print bandana and I liked how the bold print and color tied into the big pink polka dots on the dress. I'm wearing a bronze lip color, black button earrings and my big plastic bow necklace. I feel kitsch-tastic!

Let's not forget about my date and dance partner! Dapper Derek is rockin' a leopard jacket that was a gift from me by Nine Deep from ebay. The jacket was bought a size too big, but then was taken to our favorite tailor who did an amazing job on the jacket. Derek is not an 'off the rack' sorta guy, so having a good tailor is key to his dapper dressing skills!

Besides the leopard jacket, Dere is wearing a short sleeve black button-up top in which he changed the buttons to pewter coffin buttons by Alchemy Gothic and an awesome cross bolo tie that we purchased at a Florida cowboy store some years ago.

Here's my full outfit, hand craved purse by De Tiki

We had a great time and I'm looking forward to next month's dance, but boy are my knees sore! Hahahaha!

I'll leave you with an awesome video that is a great song and have some awesome 80s neo-rockabilly fashion. You know I love the 80s!

Kitsch Picks : Some of My Favorite Reads

Just looking at all these books make me smile! As I examined my bookshelf this morning the inspiration struck me to share a variety books that I really enjoy for this week's Kitsch Picks. I have to say that everyone with a wicked sense of humor should own The Villain's Guide to Better Living, it's hysterical!

We Met Peter Murphy!

In the dressed for Peter Murphy blog I talked about what we wore to the Peter Murphy Mr. Moonlight tour : Celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus, but now I need to talk about getting to meet Peter Murphy.

First I just have to talk about the show. I love Bauhaus, not because they are a quintessential "goth band", because of what their music portrays and their raw energy and sound that influenced so many others. I never got the chance to see Bauhaus together on their reunion tours, but I have seen Peter Murphy perform several times and this last time did not disappoint me at all.

I stood with goosebumps as he appeared on stage to "King Volcano" that went right into "Kingdom's Coming", which very much surprised and delighted myself, Derek and the whole audience! Though the whole set was amazing, the highlights for me were, "God is in the Alcove", "Silent Hedges", "Kick In the Eye", "She's In Parties", "Severance" (Dead Can Dance cover!). Then the first encore was finished with "Hollow Hills" and the second encore was a surprise, "Transmission"! (Joy Division cover) and "Ziggy Stardust" (Bowie cover). Here is the whole setlist. It was all amazing, truly.

Then there was the meet and greet after the show.....

I would like to point out my eyes in this photo, little hearts should be forming and popping
over my head. Le sigh.

We lined up to the short line of guests to get to chat with Peter, get an autograph and photo, Derek and I were so incredibly nervous! I usually don't put people in bands and/or singers on "rock star" status, but I was about to meet an icon of mine!

As we stepped up Peter greeted us both warmly and shook our hands, he has a lovely voice and smile. As he was shaking my hand he told me I was "lovely", which of course made my millennium, he then complimented Derek on his outfit. I finally got to tell him what I always say about Peter's singing. I said, "I always say no one can 'woo woo' like Peter can". Peter said, "Woo woo? Oh I got it like this....." Then he looked into my eyes and woo woo'ed at me. UNLOCK FAN GIRL DREAM. I know some other things were said, but I floated away on the cloud. By the way, he has beautiful blue/grey eyes.

Name spelled wrong, but he can call me whatever he'd like.

So, I met Peter Murphy. Now if I only met Robert Smith, I wouldn't be as cool, calm and collected, I would probably just die on the floor right there. I know....that would be so goth. (hehe!)

Have you ever met one on your icons?

Outfit of the Day : Layering Lace and Bats

What I wore:
-Grey Bat Attack Dress by Sourpuss (also seen here)
-Black lace top layered over dress-Forever 21
-Cross Belt-Forever 21
-Doc Martens-ebay

I've been inspired by dressing the mannequins at work, so I decided to give it a try on me! Layering tops over dresses to give a totally different look, I dig it. I've already started thinking about what else I can layer, muahahahaaa!

How do you like to layer?

Shoes! OMG! : Dr. Martens Battersea Sneaker Boot

The idea of a Dr. Martens 14-eye sneaker boot intrigues me. I have to say I love the look of these canvas shoes as it gives the look of wearing combat boots, but they seem to be lighter and more flexible to wear for the warmer months. I enjoy wearing my summer dresses with my Docs, but they can get hot and heavy, perhaps the Battersea's are a nice alternative!

New Cameo Sweater For Grey Days

Cameo sweater by Cartel Ink

When I got this sweater from work last week, I didn't think I was going to be able to wear it so soon! Our weather turned very rainy and cold, so I was able to happily wear my new sweater on Sunday.

Hey wrinkles, where did you come from?

Since it was such a grey day, my attire seemed to match the mood, so this is what I threw on; grey dress from Target paired with grey textured leggings from Charlotte Russe, pointy buckle boots, and a spider web bandana.

In some non-fashion related life stuff, I tried to shut our bathroom window the other day and ripped down part of the window sill. Meagan smash! Our apartment building was built in the 1920s, so things falling apart are prone to happen, especially when they are the original parts. Next thing, under our sink sprang a leak from the wall (can't use the sink) AND part of our kitchen floor is coming up-all of this not related to each other. Luckily the property maintenance is amazing around here, so we'll be getting all fixed up today. I need to find a place to hide as our our apartment is not that big, hehehe!

I hope everyone has had a non-destructive beginning of their week!

Dressed for Peter Murphy

Visited my hair stylist for mohawk maintenance before the show!

I'm still excited from the Peter Murphy show last night, so much so that I could barely sleep! Though I'll save my show details for another blog, here is what Derek and I wore to the show.

Dapper Derek

My husband always looks so stylish; ruffled Shrine Clothing shirt, brocade waist coat and long suit coat paired with his Fluevog winklepickers and assorted gothy accessories. See, he loves to accessorize too! Hahaha!

Looking a bit crazed!

I dress for comfort when going to shows, so nothing that I'm wearing is really new to the blog, but I am wearing my hair scarf a little different. As you can see in this photo there are more reddish/brown sections in my hair, as I'm slowly making the process towards some blonde within the black. I just want something different, as I like to change it up from time to time. The scarf was a last minute addition as it was mega windy out and freshly dyed hair was not cooperating, so I slapped it on and just went with it.

So part two of Peter Murphy will be soon, I need to get some sleep!

Polka Dots and Spider Webs

Polka dots seem to be the theme with my most recent purchases, which includes this ruffled tank from Target. I picked it up on a whim as I like the material, the ruffles and that it is a top in general. I have such a hard time finding tops that I like, let alone love. I have a sea of plain black tops in my closet and I try to have a little variety, so the key word is try. Haha!

I paired the polka dot tank with my black skater skirt and cross belt.

The weather has turned rainy and chilly, so I added my spider web cardigan from Sourpuss Clothing to keep me warm at work and adorned my legs with a pair of fishnet stockings. My Docs are turning into a wardrobe staple, they are comfortable and pretty much go with everything, and they are finally broken in! Yay!

Tonight is the Peter Murphy Mr. Moonlight Tour and I will be attending with much excitement. I've seen Peter about 3 times now, all of which have been amazing, but tonight he's celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus in which he will only perform Bauhaus material. Tickle me excited!

Running, Running, Running Errands!

Thumbs up to a good thrift day! Yay!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far, mine has been filled with errands, shopping, sewing and sippin' on margarita's. I've also been exposing my skin to the nice weather we've been having, but it's still odd to not be walking around without four layers on and I'm not going to complain!

Here are just a few of my casual outfits from the early part of this week:

New cotton polka dot dress from Forever 21

Dress can also be seen here, I've styled it a little different.

New lace button-up top from Forever 21 worn with my little bone flats.

I guess it's been a Forever 21 sort of week, woah! Admittedly, I don't own a lot of summer specific clothing, so I have a tendency to buy a few new items every season. I had an online order arrive from Forever 21 and exchanged half of the order to the store on Monday, so got the little polka dot dress (second picture) and lace top (last picture) along with a very cute all over bow print cardigan. All items were tried on with a whim and they came home with me, bring it on summer!

Do you prefer online shopping to in-store shopping?

Adventures : Roc City Tattoo Expo

Derek and I attended the Roc City Tattoo Expo in Rochester, NY on Sunday to get tattooed by Derek's friend Ezra Haidet from Austin, Texas. We were both excited to see Ezra, get one of his fabulous tattoos and see old and new friends.

Convention outfit. Simple and comfortable.
Black dress, grey leopard vest, creepers and my Dungaree Dolly batty bag
and Rosie hair scarf.

Derek's pin up face while getting tattooed in an ouchie spot!

My turn, ankle spot.

My pug tattoo with a Tiki fez, I named him Schmoopie.

Derek's Viking pug with tentacles.

Derek and I love Pug dogs (even though we don't have any pets...yet!) and one thing that Ezra likes to tattoo is Pugs as he has two of his own...and a mini pig!

Tattoo conventions are a fun place to get tattooed by artists who live out of town and/or have a special style that you enjoy. I can't wait for Ezra to come to next year's Roc City, so I can get another little Pug friend tattoo!

Have you ever been to a tattoo convention?
