Vintage Inspired : Wedding Wardrobe

On Friday the 28th, we had the pleasure of celebrating the marriage of Jenny and Mike, two of our close friends. It was a great reception and both the beautiful bride and smiling from ear-to-ear groom looked incredibly happy.

When it comes to choosing what to wear to a wedding, I tend to lean towards a vintage-inspired dress and accessories. Though I did go to the wedding in this beautiful Trashy Diva dress, I opted not to wear the turban as my head got too hot. Hahaha!

The lovely embroidered sash is part of the dress and it draws the eye to my waist which is something I enjoy in a garment.

+dress: Trashy Diva (older style) via Cats Like Us
+necklace, earrings: second hand
+bracelets: JC Penney's
+turban: from drag queen friend
+shoes: eBay

Congrats to Jenny and Mike! Love you guys!

Living Room Love

Welcome to my Sunday and welcome to my living room. Our day started off early by getting together with Derek's family for brunch and then saying our good-bye's after they were in town for the weekend.

Messy, needed to be washed hair, next-to-no make up and barefoot. I'm okay with Sundays. I do have to point out the Astrology Fringe Kimono Top that I ordered from Hot Topic. I've been finding kimono's are the way I've been dealing with the summer heat/humidity when I'm not in work clothes. Cotton dress, kimono top and flats have been the uniform.

These photos were a random idea on Sunday (while I was sipping on wine) to show our new-to-us lamps that I have completed.

The tassels came with the lamps: BONUS!!! LOL!

I bought the pair of lamps and lamp shades at a consignment shop and DIY-ed the lamp shades. I wanted a richer (and more tacky) appearance to the lamps, so I added the black panne velvet fabric panels and black/gold trim. I have seen vintage velvet lampshades go for hundreds of dollars and well...I'm too thrifty to fork out that kind of dough. Haha! Though I love our mid century modern lamps, I wanted something to add more vintage Hollywood Regency to the living room and I'm very happy!

I really love home decor and seeing our home evolve with every new idea and/or treasure we find!

The Peter Pan Collar Shirt

I'm a sucker for a Peter Pan collar, perhaps it's because of Wednesday Addams and my love of 1960s fashions. I'd been actively looking for a Peter Pan collar top for quite some time and while looking through my etsy 'favorites' I re-introduced myself to the Vintage Galeria (aka Hemet).

While looking through the lovely shop (I knew their quality was excellent as I worked with some of their pieces while styling a shoot for Auxiliary Magazine) I found this wonderful top!!! I ordered it straight away and the fit, material and cut is AMAZING! In my excitement I ordered the wrong size, but with a quick email my error was corrected by their awesome customer service (Thank you Janet!)

The Lydia Deetz brooch on my lapel by the amazing Jubly-Umph!

I can't forget to mention the Hell Bunny Creepy 50s Graves dress that I turned into a skirt. Why? Quite frankly I'm not a fan of halter dresses and I wanted a creepy cute skirt, so with a few modifications the dress was reincarnated into a skirt! Muahahahaa!!! Snip. Snip. Snip.

Weirdy fashion poses? Naw, just being a goof with a camera remote. *Wink*

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Thank you for reading!

Day Off

I work at a boutique store, so I usually work Saturday's due to the nature of the business, BUT I had this Saturday off! What's a girl to do? Well, I went to visit some boutique shops that I usually can't visit on the weekends!

One of the boutiques I visited is The Dress Shop which is where that I bought my beautiful lace dress. There was an email about a sale, so it lured me to see what was going on. Nothing tempted me in the sale section, but I did come home with this simple and lovely dress. Though it looks like a two-piece (due to the belt), it is indeed a dress. I have been lusting after the idea of a tulle skirt that was the right length, comfortable and versatile and I found it all in a dress! Welcome to my closet little dress, you will be worn and loved!

I wore this dress to a cocktail party in the evening at The Black Manor, a.k.a our friend's lovely turn-of-the-century home. Not only were the cocktails and food amazing, the company and conversation is always delightful. I ate A LOT, I regret nothing. *Wink*

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor

This was supposed to be today's work outfit until I discovered after snapping a few photos that I had white stains on my skirt. D'oh!

Oh well. White crap happens...literally. I usually snap photos if I have time before I head to work and in this case I had to completely change my outfit, minus the polka dot head scarf. Ch-ch-changes....

How has your week been going? Ours has been filled with gardening. SO MUCH GARDENING. I do not have a green thumb, but I want the landscaping to look nice and that included digging up some alien-looking bulb plants and transplanting the existing plants around the house. I don't like doing it, but I'm a determined gal and a little stubborn. With all this digging, sweating and screaming about grubs, I am oh-so-very sore. How can ones bum muscles hurt for days?!! How?! On the flip side, I'm counting it all as exercise and I'm going to sip on some cocktails and eat some queso. Hehehehe!!!

Bats and Bats and MORE Bats!

I was feeling good while heading off to work on Wednesday, admittedly that's a rarity these days. For some reason, I've been going through a bought of 'I hate everything I put on'. It's frustrating and uncomfortable and no matter how many times I tell myself I'm just being silly or to stop worrying about things that are just trivial..... it doesn't seem to help.

I try to let my confidence shine through whatever I am wearing, but there are times that I just want to crawl out of my skin. Anxiety my old enemy, you butt in out of the blue and make my head spin.

I have no idea, I just 'like' the photo....

Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, so I try to make the best out of the bouts of anxiety by keeping myself motivated and try to 'create' rather than let the lingering thoughts get the best of me. It's easier said than done, but clothing has always one of my favorite sources of expression, even when it seems to not be enjoyable from time-to-time.

What I'm wearing:
+ lace top: H&M
+spooksville bat skirt: Sourpuss Clothing
+studded creepers: TUK Shoes
+necklace: gift from Beth

Pumpkin Scones and Windy Days

I made pumpkin spice scones on Tuesday morning, from a box mix, but they were still delicious! Derek and I were wandering about Home Goods and I spotted the mix while I was shopping the fancy food sections. I have to admit I'm yearning for Halloween items and the Autumn, but I know that Old Man Winter will soon follow.....so I need to be patient.

Tuesday's weather was quite odd. I love a nice cloudy day, but the wind and threat of rain lingered around all day long. I had a lot of tasks to complete around the house, which included painting screened frames that Derek made for 'The Hut'. It will be nice to have them up when we open up the garage door to help keep the bugs out.

I spent some time in my sewing room (where I also take indoor photos), contemplating which color I was going to paint the walls. I want to get the sewing area organized, but first I need to paint as there is no point of putting anything on the walls just to take them down to paint. Decisions....decisions....

This outfit was nice and flowy for a cooler, yet humid day.

What I'm wearing:

+black lace skull top: hottopic.com
+cotton ruffle skirt: thrift
+hat: Forever 21 (old)
+beads: thrift
+dangle cross earrings: Hot Topic (old)

Picture Leggings : Skinny Puppy

Seems like I'm on an industrial kick this week! I was very pleased with the cooler weather on Monday, as it allowed me to wear these Skinny Puppy Picture Leggings. I ordered these as soon as they popped up on my Facebook newsfeed. A little bit of a compulsive buy, yet I'm glad I snatched these up!

I have a lot of leggings and have bought I love of screen printed items, so I wasn't sure what to expect with the fit and design. I was hoping that they would be properly printed fabric, so that the design would stretch with the fabric and it does! It so gloriously does! All the images are clear and the fit is perfect (I ordered a Medium) as the waist band doesn't rest on my hips, they sit comfortable slightly below my natural waist.

I don't wear a lot of band t-shirts (though I own so many!), so leggings or other band-related items work much better being incorporated into my outfits.

What I'm wearing:
+lace dress: thrift
+black onyx crystal necklace: Queen of Jackals
+picture leggings: Skinny Puppy
+cross belt: Forever 21 (old)
+sunglasses: Cats Like Us
