This Robot Skirt is Fun!

What can I say, this skirt has; ray guns, robots and other atomic kitsch which simply makes me smile. Here is how I styled the skirt featured on a previous blog and now I'm realizing I would gladly welcome more patterned circle skirts into my closet. I've had my eye on this skirt since it was released last Halloween and I think I could style it a variety of ways. I mean spider webs are a neutral, right?! *Wink*

I really enjoy wearing circle and/or A-Line skirts as I find them easy to wear and figure flattering. The higher waist styles allow me to wear anything from a t-shirt to a lace top and I don't have to worry about the length of the top being too short or too long. It's a classic cut that has stood the test of time and one that I believe looks great on everyone!

Yay! Thanks for reading!!

More Salem Fun

I need to get back into the groove with my blogging schedule, so until I get my brain straight (I kept thinking yesterday was Friday) here is some more random Salem fun. I'm posing with the Bewitched statue, have you ever watched that classic TV show?

Derek outside of the old town hall as we're wandering around while all the shops and museums are closed. I love this goof!

Tombstone in Burying Point Cemetery. The engravings are just too neat!

So attractive, dear!

Occult store, Hex

The Witch Dungeon Museum was neat as it is in an old church. It gave me a little fright at the end!

It was too cold and rainy on Friday to tour the Friendship, but we admired it while we sat and ate a late lunch.

Derek nor I are big horror movie people, but the Count Orlok Nightmare Gallery was one of the best museums in Salem. I loved Pinhead (Hellraiser) and the classic horror movie monster, like the Creature from the Black Lagoon...he's so handsome. Hehe!

Hey good lookin'. Whatcha do cookin' in the cauldron?

Five Hands Curiosity Shoppe is AWESOME! So many lovely things, but alas we could only bring a few treasures home. Le sigh.

Lastly, a terrible mirror photo of my wedding ensemble featuring Soutche Sandy Dress by Trashy Diva. I'm glad I bought it from work with the urging of Julie Ann. I was on the fence about the way the dress it looked on me, but I grew to love it and it traveled well and has pockets! Bonus!

Thank you for coming to hang out with me!

A Sudden Influx of T-Shirts

This influx of t-shirts is exciting as they are shirts for Ink Inc. Tattoo Parlor, my husband's tattoo shop.

Sigil design by (our friend) Dan Barrett

I also shaved off a large back portion of my hair. I feel so much lighter!

These shirt designs were all drawn by Derek and screen printed by our friend Jason. It's so awesome to be surrounded by such talented people. Now my drawers are exploding with t-shirts! Hehehe!

Road Trip : Salem, MA

Burying Point Cemetery

Sunday night we got back from a whirlwind road trip to Salem, MA. We've had this trip planned for many months as Derek's cousin was getting married in Boston, MA. We decided to stay in visit Salem since it's a close commute by train to Boston and it was on our list of places to visit.

I decided since we were visiting a place that is a mecca at Halloween time, I just had to wear my LucyFur leggings and vintage Halloween cat hoodie by Sourpuss Clothing. I got a lot of compliments on my leggings and some weird looks too, hehe! Hey, I like to dress in theme when vacationing. *Wink*

Derek the Ripper!

We had a good time and I have a lot more photos, but I have to admit that I won't be running back to visit Salem anytime soon. It's a neat place, love the feel of the city, yet you don't need a lot of time when visiting. Though I learned a few things I didn't know about the history of Salem and the Witch Trials, we were disappointed that everything seemed to close at 5pm and that all the museums were pretty cheesy, but fun! We mostly enjoyed the small things, like the Gulu-Gulu Cafe, walking around and admiring the houses and the quaint cobblestone streets and running around making our own fun. The occult shops are neat, but after a while you realize they all are pretty much the same, yet we did manage to bring home a lot of neat things, like another bone saw from a neat shop called Five Hands Curiosity Shoppe.

And of course our trips wouldn't be complete without squeezing as many Tiki destinations in as we can find, like visiting the Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus, MA. I ate so much Chinese food this trip annnnnd I really don't like Chinese food, but I can't say no to sampling the tropical libations!

We got to check a few things off our destinations list, but I'm always happy to be home.

"Wow, You Don't Look Your Age"

Tuesday I went to get a bottle of wine at the liquor store and as per usual I get I.D'ed. As the clerk was looking at my license they say, "Wow, you don't look your age! The way you're dressed makes you look so young". In my usual polite way I brushed it off and walked out to my car when it dawned on me..Wow, that's sort of a shitty thing to say to someone.

I was dressed very similar to what I'm wearing in these photos and though I don't think the clerk meant the comments to be rude, but it got me thinking. This isn't the first time people have said things to me directly or in passing about me dressing "young", whatever the heck that means. I've even been mistaken for a teenager and asked why I wasn't in school! I dress the way I want, wear my hair the way I want and yet still am an adult. Wow, it's possible! Hehe!!

Basically, you shouldn't judge people's age by the way they dress. Though it's a common human curiosity to try and guess and/or assume people's age, it's none of your business....unless it's part of your job. Age is something that our society is obsessed with, especially when you are a woman. "Don't wear a mini-skirt after 35", "Ways to look younger", "How to Dress at X, Y and Z at your age".

Pffffffft! My face pretty much sums up my thoughts on the above statements.

I'm not insulted per say, but I think it's just silly. There are no age tags on articles of clothing and I don't read silly magazines that are telling me the 'do's and don'ts'. The only person that can tell me that something doesn't work for me at a certain age is myself. I hope to grow old gracefully in my own way and in my own time. But, I don't think I'll ever stop being silly at any age!

Age is only a number, it doesn't completely define me. :)

I Dream of Shoes : Sugar Rush by BC Footwear

I'm intrigued by these Sugar Rush wedges by BC Footwear with the interesting (almost ghostly) skull design. I'm also draw to the lace up design as it seems like this style would be comfortable for the top of the foot and would keep my narrow foot secure.

Thank you for reading! Happy Shoe Thursday!

#MyVegasStyle Challenge : My Style

I was contacted by Jennifer from Vegas.com to see if I wanted to participate in the #MyVegasStyle challenge to see what my fashion choices would be while I was staying at the Aria Resort & Casino. This comes at a great time as Vegas is on the list of possible places Derek and I may spend our 5 year wedding anniversary. Random fact : Derek and I originally were going to get married in Vegas, but due to family not being able to fly, we decided to have a small cocktail party in Buffalo. We still had a great day with our closest friends and family!

Here is what Derek and I would do at a day at the Aria Resort & Casino and what I would wear. I decided to dress in theme to match each activity, I figured I'm on vacation and it's fun to get a little kitschy.

Sipping Cocktails at the Pool Bar

We would start the early afternoon at the Pool Bar to enjoy a few cocktails and enjoy a dip in the pool. You know I love Tiki, so why not take it on vacation with me.

Mexican Yumminess at Javier's in Aria Resort & Hotel

After enjoying the Vegas sun (and slathering on the sunscreen), Derek and I would have lunch at Javier's and enjoy some Mexican food. Our favorite!

Cirque Du Soleil : Zarkana at Aria

When you're in Vegas you need to catch a show and seeing as the Aria is home to the Zarkana by Cirque De Soleil, I couldn't resist dressing a little circus-esque. After the show we'd head to Five50 for some pizza and cocktails. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

So, here is my day at the Aria Resort & Casino. It's amazing how many things there are to do all in one place, gotta love Vegas!

*These opinions are my own. I am not being compensated, I just thought it was a fun themed #MyVegasStyle challenge.

Do you ever dress in 'theme' when going on vacation?

Vest Weather, Finally!

I can't deny that I don't love my jackets, but I am loving the fact that I don't need to wear long sleeves with my beloved vests.

This black denim vest was added to the closet last summer and is now getting some TLC. I did some work to it over the winter like, taking it in at the sides to create a slimmer silhouette and adding this amazing back patch by Poison Apple Print Shop. The patch is The Amulets of Bastet which can be purchased here

Oh and hey! I'm outside, wooo!!!

Tiki and Bats?! Why not!

Holy nice outside, Batman! Finally! I wish I could take photos outside, but between nosey neighbors and Derek and I having different schedules, I'm here with my trusty tripod and camera timer. That's okay, I got to harness some of the nice natural light in my little photo spot.

The grey bat dress is an old Sourpuss Clothing piece who's zipper has been tricky, so in today's attempt to get it on I was successful! I added this Steady Clothing Tiki cropped sweater to once again give this dress a different look with styling. Here are some other looks with this dress: Lace and batsAll the bats are grey.

A side note about the Steady Clothing Tiki cropped sweater, it's really nice and lightweight which is perfect for sunny Spring days like today!

I Dream of Shoes : Fahrenheit Famke-02

I have to admit I'm not a sandal person. I loathe trying to find something that is comfortable and stylish for the warm summer months (around here it seems like it's only for a few weeks), but the Fahrenheit Famke-02 seems like an interesting sandal.

How do you feel about sandals? What sort of footwear do you like for warm weather?

Wearing What You Love

I don't wear a ton of vintage and the vintage I do wear are pieces that make my heart sing. When I spotted this barkcloth dress on etsy I think my eyes bugged out of my head, atomic print! I snatched up this piece for $25 to wear for occasions when Tiki garb is required, but I was disappointed when I tried the dress on and it just didn't look right.

I showed my friend Julie Ann the dress and explained my dilemma and she suggested that I wear it like a jacket. What a great idea and I am over the moon for the colors and the atomic print, I think it's going to be a piece that is going to be worn day-to-day rather than being worn time-to-time.

I feel we all get wrapped up in presenting a "certain look" even though it may be subconscious. Sometimes wearing that one thing that you love rather than hiding it away in the closet for 'specific reasons' is very empowering.

Good Mourning....Dress

A few weeks ago I treated myself to two dresses on my Sourpuss Clothing 'Wishlist' as they were having a 25% off sale on top of the already sale price of the dresses. How could I say no!? Well, I could have but I didn't.

So, I snatched up the Good Mourning Dress that features little spiders, skulls, roses and zombie cameos all over. The print on the dress is too cute and I love the cut and style, so comfy and easy to wear. I am thinking 'Spring' and warm thoughts! Hey leaves, you can start budding on the trees any day now!

Since I love cameos so much, I decided to go all out and pair the dress with my skeleton cameo necklace and (more traditional) cameo earrings. Some day's you just need to be matchy-matchy!

If what ways do you like to be "matchy-matchy"?

Thank you for hanging out with me!
