The Last Beat of My Heart : Robert Smith

My bosses gifted me this awesome magazine all about The Cure, which inspired this Music Thursday to feature two of Robert Smith other projects.

Siouxsie and the Banshees-Robert was the guitarist in the band from 1982-1984.

The Glove-Side project of both Steve Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees) and Robert Smith released Blue Sunshine in 1983.

Just a little insight into Robert Smith's amazing musical career!

The Last Beat of My Heart : Music Thursdays

Gotta love a little Sisters of Mercy humor!

Normally Thursday's are dedicated to shoes and my love for them, but I've hit a wall. *Gasp* I know. In reality I'm a huge, huge, HUGE music nerd. I love listening, researching and talking about music. I'm not a musician, or a music critic, but I'm just someone who really appreciates music......and yes, I listen to bands other than The Cure. Haha!

On these hot summer days I've been inspired to listen to a lot of ethereal, world beat, atmospheric type sounds or driving tribal rhythms. Here are some bands I've been enjoying this week:

Dead Can Dance

Bel Canto

Delerium

These are to just name a few bands as I've also been listening to Slowdive, Ride, Lush, and My Bloody Valentine which are more on the Shoegaze side of the spectrum.

I'm looking forward to sharing and discussing music with you all!

Happy Music Thursday!

Kitsch Picks : A Few Music Favorites of 2013

Meeting Peter Murphy was my best musical moment this year.

There were a lot of great musical moments that I had this year that included; seeing Billy Idol, The Mission (UK), starting our post punk night named On the Wire, seeing The Fixx, and I had a miss by totally hating seeing Swans live....sigh. I've also listened to a lot of great new music, old music and new-to-me music, so here's a few bands that made my ears happy this 2013.

Tears for Fears. Not a new band to me, but I've quickly realized how much they are climbing into my "favorite bands" category. I'm dancing right now!

Belgrado. I really dig their sound and though I enjoyed their self titled record, I am so ecstatic about their most recent release, Siglo XXI. Favorite tracks include; Swiat Jest Nasz and Palac Kultury.

The Bellicose Minds. They are a band I've been listening to for the last few years and I was excited when they put out a full length record released in March 2013. The Spine is a great album if you're into the dark punk sound!

Negative Image. Discovering this gem of a band on my internet travels. I can't get enough of this song and I love this video and this song. Hehe!

I'm looking forward to listening and discovering new music favorites in 2014. Happy New Year everyone!

Thank you for reading, commenting and being awesome!

Phew! What a Weekend!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I'm happily exhausted from a weekend filled with clubbing. Last night was our kick off event for On The Wire, put together by three friends and myself, which will be a monthly event to add to the Buffalo fun. The event was a smash success, I was walking around in awe of the awesome vibe, new faces and how supportive everyone was about the new event. I danced my legs off and I can't wipe the smile off my face as we have a great team working together!

Kitsch Picks : Bands to Check Out

Derek made this as a joke, there are no deathrock (bands) in Western New York

I wanted to share a few deathrock/post punk type bands that I have really been enjoying. I think it's really great that bands are making new music that is influenced by the old, but sounds new!

The Bellicose Minds:

Belgrado:

Arctic Flowers:

Blue Cross

These are just a few bands that I've been digging, so give a listen and support!

Adventures : A Place To Bury Strangers

On Friday Derek and I went to see A Place To Bury Strangers, a post-punk noise band from Brooklyn, New York. I was jumping for joy when Derek told me that they were coming to town because I'm a huge post-punk girl and a big fan of the band.

I'm glad I brought my ear plugs! Wall of noise goodness. I stood close to the front and loved every minute of it.

I think this crazy photo describes the show and mood perfectly.

I didn't wear anything too amazing to the show, but I was digging how my hair looked. Please excuse the silly bathroom mirror shots.

They opened the show with one of my favorite songs!

And played another favorite! Happy girl was happy!

On a side note, the band played at Mohawk Place which used to be like a second home to me when it was the original owner Pete's place. Mohawk Place will sadly be closing in January 2013 and once again another haunt in my home town is biting the dust.

Wednesday Link Round-Up : Music!

This week is dedicated to music! Wooooo! I can't get enough, I can't live without it, and I certainly consider myself a music lover! Some of my favorite styles of music are; goth, industrial, post-punk, punk, deathrock, gothabilly, psychobilly, swing, surf, 90s dance music and a whole mess of other cheesy goodness. I am linking you to some bands that I have been enjoying as of late.

+If you love dark post-punk, check out The Rope.
+The Acid Bats are a deathrock band from Mexico who are worth a listen too.
+Often compared to The Cure and also covering their song, 'Upstairs Room', Veil Veil Vanish is an amazing band from San Francisco
+Hailing from the eerie shores of Ohio's great lake, Cult of the Psychic Fetus is not only one of my most favorite bands, they helped to define the gothabilly genre.
+Another deathrock band I enjoy Eyaculacion Post Mortem, has a hard name to say with a really nice sound.
+Check out Selebrities, I'm sure they will get your feet moving.

Happy music listening!
