Coffin Necklace & Earring Set by Ms. Paisleys Parlor

 

Coffins?! Why yes, please and thank you! When I saw this beautiful coffin necklace and coffin earrings by Ms. Paisley's Parlor on her etsy shop, I knew I had to purchase them! I absolutely love onyx and I love coffins, so it was a no-brainer that these pieces needed to be added to my jewelry collection. 

I've been shopping from my etsy favorites list as I think it's more important than ever to support small business, artisans, crafters, etc. I know I am SO appreciative of every single purchase that people make from the Coffin Kitsch etsy shop. I've gotten into the habit of looking for sewing supplies on etsy and ebay, so I'm supporting a person (or family business) rather than a big box store. A lot of the times I find more unique items and get a nice personal experience. I also find joy in using the supplies I get from other small businesses to create my handmade items that I have for sale. It's a pretty cool cycle when you think about it!

Daily Driver Attire

A lot has changed in the past two years since I paused on blogging, but more recently (in these pandemic times) Derek's and my life has changed drastically. I'm not going to dive too much into all the changes, but one major thing is that I am now driving Derek to work about 5 days a week. Andddd....

Derek is a tattoo artist and unfortunately due to the months of lock down and quarantine, his shop closed. The shop which he ran for 6.5 years. Closing a business during a global pandemic was traumatizing, to say the least. The old shop was basically around the corner from our house, so with him starting at a new shop that is much farther away, insert yours truly as the daily driver. Honestly, I really don't mind at all! I get Derek safely to work, I get out of the house and I get to wear some fun outfits to amuse myself. Dressing is a way to keep some normalcy for me and it helps to lift my spirits. I did giggle when I paired my sunglasses to my pants.

I do have admit every time I drop Derek off to work, I am in fear as COVID-19 is a VERY serious situation. Derek is at risk every time he goes to the tattoo shop and every time he is exposed to a client. I know he is taking all precautions, using extensive PPE protection, along his already diligent cleaning practices. I do have some peace of mind as the tattoo shop, as a whole, is following all CDC guidelines and then some. What worries me is everyone else. The people who don't wear a mask, those who don't wash their hands, those who are gathering in large groups and those people who don't think COVID-19 is real. And in turn he is worried about exposing me, that's why we both agreed on household practices to try and keep ourselves safe We will be getting tested regularly and as of our last test, we are negative.

Kicking It Old School with a Hair Scrunchie

My hair is a non-style right now. I gave myself a quarantine hair cut several times, including shaving part of my head. I've cut my own hair over the years, so it wasn't that much of a shock when I took the clippers to my head. I am not quite sure what I want to do with this blonde mop, so I haven't visited one of my hair stylist friends.....yet. In the meantime, I've been wearing it up in a ponytail nub (it has been hot) as it's much easier to have my hair up when wearing a mask. I wanted to have the illusion of more hair, so I went back into the time machine that is my brain and thought, "HAIR SCRUNCHIE!". Literally faux hair on an elastic band that I used to wear all the time in the early 2000's.

You bet I piled them on! And check out that chunky digital camera!

This is one of the nicest faux hair scrunchies I have ever owned! On a whim I nabbed this one off Amazon, not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised! I walked downstairs after slapping it on, and I had to tell Derek that it wasn't my own hair! Of course, that was after I was dancing around humming some weird tune, which is normal behavior in our household. Hahaha!

So yeah, I wrote about a faux hair scrunchie, because I'm not doing much these days outside of our home. I've been; working on the Coffin Kitsch etsy shop, sewing,  driving Derek to the new tattoo shop (that's for another blog) and forever trying to clean and organize our basement. I'm really okay with it all, honestly. So, silly little posts are good distractions! Take care and stay safe friends!

Nothing Like a Pandemic to Inspire Firing Up the Old Blog!

It has been over TWO YEARS since I last posted on the blog?! Whhaaaaaaat?! Sheesh, I did a double take when I looked at the date of the last entry, time really does fly by. Anywho, HI! Hello friends, how are you doing? How are you holding up during this world pandemic? I am getting by and trying to stay positive as much as one can with crippling anxiety and a husband who works in an industry that puts him at major risk for COVID-19, but I digress.

So much has happened over the past four years. Besides more tattoos, many different hair styles/hair colors and getting my eyebrows microbladed (that just happened last week), I've also had a hysterectomy which basically was life changing in the most positive way. I'm pain free now, because I didn't take, "We don't know what's wrong", for an answer. I learned that being your own health advocate is one of the most important things you can do for your physical and mental health. 

I'm still slinging vintage over at the Coffin Kitsch etsy shop and I've been doing quite a bit of sewing. Taking my love for home decor has spawned into making cafe curtains and window valances focusing on Halloween novelty prints and Tiki themed patterns has been both fulfilling and it has been fun! Very lucky to be thriving with everything going on (that's terrible) in the world and I thank the Gods every day, truly.

What hasn't changed? Me being a total weird who likes to goof around both in front of the camera and behind it. In fact, I have an alter ego named Sheila 'She-Devil' Hellinski who let's me channel my love for vintage, kitsch and humor into a creative character. I'm sure you'll meet her real soon, but if you can't wait, the IG handle is @sheilahellinski.

So Many (Halloween) Kitties

Hello friends! I forgot that I had snapped these photos last week (or the week before?) of my matchy-matchy Halloween cat sweater and leggings. I snatched up the leggings a few years ago when Sourpuss Clothing when the Halloween cat first started to appear. (You can see me being matchy matchy when we visited Salem, MA)

Putting this outfit together was one was as simple as walking into my closet, looking at my leggings folded on the shelf, then scanning my folded sweaters and Voila! An outfit was born. Side note-we've been working on our closet room as our previous set up was not working to the room's full potential.

It's Sweater Weather!

I am happy that I get to dive into my sweater collection, we've been having the weirdest Autumn so far and from day-to-day I have to double and triple check the weather channel in order plan on how I should dress. Last week we had a very rainy and cold days, which made me happy since I could wear my leather jacket. Hehe!

The dress was the last one featured in my blog post about TOBI clothing and it's proving to be a wonderful dress for layering. They still have the dress on their website and it still gets two thumbs up from me!

When we got this cardigan in at work (last year), I thought that I didn't need it, but then I realized I was crazy. Of course I need a sweater with coffins on it, it's part of the name of my blog, I have many coffins tattooed on me (including my chest) and I LOVE coffins.

Speaking of coffins, I was very happy to now to wearing my Mordaunte's coffin gem ring that was a 5 year anniversary gift from Derek. I hate to say that it sat in the box for 2 years before I realized that it does fit my right ring finger. When Derek first gave it to me, we thought it was too small and need sizing, well I finally took it to a jeweler to only realize that we were wrong and I've been now happily wearing it everyday! Shout out to Sharon (Goth Gardening) for inspiring me to finally take my ring to a jeweler after seeing her amazing Instagram post about her Mordaunte ring along with another gorgeous cameo ring. Thank you dear!!!

Polka Dots and Spiders

It's the Spring Equinox today! 

I definitely can 'feel' Spring in the air as I was getting ready for work on Wednesday. The snow has been melting and I can start to wear clothing without having to sport 3-4 layers underneath a dress. I wore this H&R London polka dot cotton shirt dress paired with Sourpuss Clothing spider cardigan, skinny belt and purple crushed velvet boots. I love shirt dresses, because they are comfortable and can be styled anyway I like!  

I know big polka dots remind people of 'I Love Lucy' or rockabilly style, but I love a giant polka dots because it screams, "80s fashion!!!". Hehe!!!!

Favorites 2014

First of all, where the heck did this year go? I feel like it flew by! So, now that the year is almost at an end, I am picking a few of my favorite looks from 2014. I did the same for 2013 and I thought it was fun to share!

Flowy Lace

The leaves look so beautiful at this time of the year. The breeze and the smell of Autumn was wonderful this day and adorning myself in a flowy lace dress just felt right.

The Cupcake Dress Part Deux

I just can't be sad wearing this punk cupcake dress, in fact I think it makes me a wee bit giddy....and hungry. Here is the first way I styled this Folter Clothing dress.

I'm also pretty excited about my hair cut, my hair stylist friend Lauren does a great job! Though the mohawk is gone and has been replaced by a 80s influenced buzz and textured cut, I feel refreshed and excited about my hair. I love having parts of my hair shaved as I feel like it's very "me", though it's not a style for everyone (which people like to remind me all the time), it's a way I like to express myself.

Can you believe my red has lasted 5 weeks, though my new growth would tell a different story. *Wink* I love Matrix Socolor Red Red, best permanent red hair color I've used.

I wish you all a wonderful beginning to the weekend. I can't wait to see my out of town friends and let my hair down, so to speak. Hehe!!

A Favorite Shirt, New Shoes

I'm pretty happy to be going to my hair appointment, even though it appears that I'm miserable. Hehe!

This over-sized chiffon button up top from Forever 21 is high on the favorite list of separate's in my closet. It's breezy and pairs well with skirts and bottoms like these black bermunda shorts from New York & Company. I had searched high and low at the mall (three years ago) for walking shorts and was thankful when I found these. Derek is such a patient and encouraging shopping partner as he saw me go from store-to-store feeling defeated. I have to say I'm not looking to wear hip hugger booty shorts and I'm not looking to wear elastic band khaki shorts, so where's the middle ground? Who makes Misses clothing that fit well, is fashionable and doesn't make me look/feel like I should be eating a fish sandwich and drinking a Sanka at McDonald's?! 

I'm being dramatic, but I digress. 

Shoe's make me happy. Yes, yes they do. These zebra creepers by MIA are the most comfortable shoes I have bought in a long time. Thank you eBay for making my closet explode with shoes, but at a $2.99 auction win, I'll just have to come up with some creative storage ideas.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Dress

A few weeks ago I picked up this cute little dress from H&M that reminded me of twinkling lights. It's a layered hi-lo chiffon fabric dress that seems more summer than winter, yet I layered it with a long sleeve top, cozy sweater and leggings to make it cold weather approved. I'm even rockin' my trusty old studded creepers that were fixed on my recent trip to Mr. Jimmy the magical cobbler. Oh, how I missed my old friends!

My hair is seriously out of control, over grown and in desperate need of a hair cut. I just want it out of my face. Sigh. I know in these situations I need to take a step back before I shave all my hair off and cry. Hahahahaha!
