Coffin Necklace & Earring Set by Ms. Paisleys Parlor

 

Coffins?! Why yes, please and thank you! When I saw this beautiful coffin necklace and coffin earrings by Ms. Paisley's Parlor on her etsy shop, I knew I had to purchase them! I absolutely love onyx and I love coffins, so it was a no-brainer that these pieces needed to be added to my jewelry collection. 

I've been shopping from my etsy favorites list as I think it's more important than ever to support small business, artisans, crafters, etc. I know I am SO appreciative of every single purchase that people make from the Coffin Kitsch etsy shop. I've gotten into the habit of looking for sewing supplies on etsy and ebay, so I'm supporting a person (or family business) rather than a big box store. A lot of the times I find more unique items and get a nice personal experience. I also find joy in using the supplies I get from other small businesses to create my handmade items that I have for sale. It's a pretty cool cycle when you think about it!

A Tulle Skirt, Foam and Some Fun Home Decor

Oh naming blog posts, how you can be daunting as times when you are not feeling creative. BUT, there is a tulle skirt (above), some foam and some fun home decor featured in this blog! It may not tie all together, but it's what I have been up to as of late. Hehe.

Wearing; Christian Death t-shirt (made by a friend), tulle skirt (ebay), spider web stockings (Leg Avenue), winklepickers (vintage, thrifted), various jewelry from Derek or ebay or thrifting.

Derek helped me with cutting the foam for the settee (as see in this blog) and he used a bread knife! Thank you Youtube for your help, it's most appreciated. I wanted to take more photos to show the process, but I was covered in glue and fabric. We choose a tricky shaped cushion for our first refoaming project, but as you can see in the 2nd photo we were successful AND it felt great throwing out the old musty cushion. Yay!

A few other fun things added to our decor included; giving Mortimer (our skeleton) his own fez, getting this cute coffin clock (from Amazon) and adding a glow-in-the-dark skeleton to our front door wreath. I guess you can say that this week is skeleton week at This Old Goth Haus.

Onward and upward to the next home project, they always keep us busy.

A Lace Dress and Fluevogs

Hello Friends! Last Tuesday got freakishly hot for this time of year, so that gave me the opportunity to wear my new Fluevog shoes! I am happy to report that they were incredibly comfortable all day, which is rare for me when I'm wearing new shoes for the first time.

This lace dress is so 'swooshy' and so much fun to wear, especially when it's windy outside. The multiple layers of lace are trimmed in ruffles and the handkerchief  (pixie) hem is something I've been searching for in other dress styles. I really like 'uneven' hemlines and am not quite sure what to look for when I'm doing an online search. Any suggestions, stores or brands I should check out? 

Unicursal Hexagram pendant was purchased at Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo, which I added to a black rosary chain.

Striped Vest with Gauchos

I got the back of my calf tattooed (a piece I've been putting off getting finished), so I needed to wear loose fitting bottoms that wouldn't rub or drag on my legs. I opted to wear my gauchos which first appeared in the "That's Not a Skirt?!" blog. These darn things are so comfortable! I forget what's it like to not wear such fitted clothing like jeggings and leggings, especially when I was a wide leg pants wearer from mid 90s to early 2000s.

I'm wearing a basic black tank top tucked into the gauchos, a 3/4 length sleeve light cotton sweater and my cropped black and white striped vest. Add some pointy shoes, a thin studded belt, layered cross necklace and coffin earrings, and this completes my look!

On a totally random note, I think I may have developed a severe sensitivity to hair bleach. Though my friend only used a soap cap on me (shampoo+bleach) to lighten this time, I'm still dealing with a painful itchy scalp. I am going to try a treatment he suggested using cholesterol hair conditioning cream. Yes, I also reacted with "WTF?" when he first said "cholesterol". Artery hardening anyone? Hahaha, just kidding! So, I'm going to give the treatment a try and cross my fingers in hopes of a solution.

Leopard, Spikes and a Bow

Happy Friday my dear friends! Any exciting plans for this weekend? Our plans include working and packing for New Orleans as we leave super-duper early on Sunday morning. *Insert happy dance* It's going to be an interest temperature change from the very wet and chilly weather we've been having, but I'm ready for some sun and warmth and de-layering a little bit.

Now that I've been at the tattoo shop for over a month, I've been wearing shoes and other pieces that only come out of the closet from time to time, like this leopard blazer and these spiked platform creepers. I don't know why I never put insoles in these shoes before, it makes a world of difference!!! Foot pain is never fun. Never!

I've been having a lot of fun getting dress everyday. I've been challenging myself to wear what I have and add only things to the wardrobe that I really want. I did a Spring time closet purge which mostly consisted of realizing some of my basics were too worn out and needed to be turned into rags.(Eeeeek!) I also tackled the enormous piles of sweaters that I own and passed a few of them to a friend and some went to the donation pile. I'm usually cold=I own a lot of sweaters. Hehehe!

My Morning with Bear Knuckle Brawlers

Welcome to my kitsch-en and my morning Wednesday routine. Wednesday's are thrift days and my time to run errands and generally have a day to myself. I tend to wear more comfy clothing while I'm running around, but I don't want to look like a complete bum. When I was contacted by Bear Knuckle Brawlers to send me some of their garments, I jumped at the chance since I had been looking for some casual attire that suited my personal style.

I'm not normally a hoodie person, but the Longline Hoodie in the moon print caught my attention since it is like a tunic and I liked that I could style it with all my printed leggings. I have to admit I've been contacted by many t-shirt/lounge wear companies and the reason why I like Bear Knuckle Brawlers so much, is that the designs are the type of imagery that I enjoy. Sometimes less is more.....in my opinion. *Wink*

The verdict: cozy, cozy, cozy. The fabric is soft and the longline hoodie design is easy to wear and I loved that after wearing it all day, I didn't have to pull down or adjust the garment. My only 'con' to the design,  is that I don't like large labels (hem line) on the front of my clothing. This is just a personal opinion about aesthetics as I think it takes away from the overall design, but no biggie!

I have more Bear Knuckle Brawler goodies to share and I get to have my partner-in-crime, Mr. Derek to help me. I also am excited to share our trip to New Orleans as we leave in just a few days!

"That's Not A Skirt?!"

I've had some luck in adding a few thrifted pieces to my closet. I found these bottoms in the skirt section and was pleasantly surprised to find that they were cropped gaucho pants. I was drawn to the high waist, pleating, length and the 'V' style front that is similar to my favorite shirt. 

Yay, so comfortable and flowy! Looking forward to styling these pants in a variety of ways, as I believe these will become a wardrobe staple.

Two Posts in One Week?!?!?!?

Helllllloooooo friends! Just goofing around at the tattoo shop this Saturday afternoon. It's a gloomy and wet Spring day, but I have to admit I love this sorta weather. *cough* So goth *cough* Perfect temperature to wear a little bell sleeve dress with crushed velvet leggings and my cowboy boots. 

Since I'm in a sinus medicine induced goofy/chatty sorta mood, I thought I would just ramble on about what general life stuff. But first, how are you all doing? What have you been up too? Working on any cool projects or watching any new shows? 

Speaking of shows, Derek and I have been all over watching season 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race. In fact, we re-watched all the past seasons and I've been addicted to watching the WOW Presents Youtube channel. I also started watching the Hulu original series, Harlots and I am really enjoying the show.

Currently re-reading Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice. I forgot how wordy and descriptive Anne Rice can be!

Been using E.L.F Cosmetics Daily Face Wash ($4!!!!) and their Daily Hydration Moisturizer ($8!!!) and I love them. I was disappointed with the Nourishing Night Cream, but the face wash and moisturizer will definitely be a re-purchase.

I love to cook and since going gluten free, I've had to modify my diet. Luckily I'm not missing out on too many things (other than my beloved favorite pizza place) and just had to get a little creative. 

Some favorites in our house:

Supreme Pizza Cauliflower Casserole (you can modify the toppings to whatever you like)

Penne with Roasted Veggies and Fresh Mozzarella (I used GF pasta)

Easy Chicken Fajitas (I have corn tortillas rather than flour tortillas)

Crispy Gluten Free Cauliflower Cheddar Pancakes (Sooooooo good!!!!!!)

Velvet, Lace and Stripes

We went to our friend Lauren's salon/barbershop opening last night, so I opted to wear velvet and lace with my Killstar "So Goth I'm Dead" as an added touch of goth kitsch. So many people laughed when they saw the bag and said it was perfect for me.  I had to add that Derek gifted it to me as we think it's extremely humorous, since it has been a phrase we have both been using for years.

Not only is Derek's suit pretty amazing, his Fluevog shoes (that I encouraged him to buy) are amazing!!!! They are the Duckie shoes inspired by the amazing Duckie Dale character in Pretty in Pink. We encourage each other to be over-the-top with our fashion choices. Hehehe!

I snapped this photo earlier in the day before we headed out to run some errands and go to some thrift stores. I am so glad that we went out yesterday as I found a part for the gift I am making for Derek for Yule. I have to mention on cross bone necklaces are from Purgatory Plaything. When we both wear them, we have been asked, "Does that stand for something?". Answer: we REALLY like bones. *Wink*
