Tattoos and Axe Throwing

Well, not at the same time (referring to the title, hahaha!). On Monday Derek finished up my Halloween Dead Mary on the back of my left calf. This tattoo has taken years, due to my stubbornness and lack of desire to finish such an ouchie spot, but I'm soooo glad it's now finished!

I must have been insane as I asked Derek, "Want to do another one?!". We had been talking about adding another tattoo to Derek's 'PUNKin patch' (a few people have punk pumpkins of Derek's designs), but I wanted mine to be more deathrock-esque and thus my PUNKin was added to the side on my left knee (holy crap, I have knee issues and this was no cake walk) and I love her!!!!!

We love goofy tattoo's. We are both covered in them and have a blast coming up with ideas and making them a reality. *Wink*

And for the other part of the title, on Sunday we went over to our friend's house for axe throwing. The guys had done this once before, but I had other plans, so I was excited to be able to participate. We threw other things, but the long handed axe was my favorite and who knew that I'm actually pretty good at throwing!

There was also throwing stars and other knives. I got a bulls eye with Derek's cross shaped throwing knives, which were everyone's favorite to throw as they have multiple pointed sides.....plus they look neat!

Crosses and Bats and Coffins....Oh Ouch!

Hello friends,  I hope all is well with all of you! Though I'm usually in the mood to wear bats (is there such thing as 'too many' bats?!), I have some exciting permanent bats that were added to my tattoo collection....and crosses and coffins.

Derek tattooed my knuckles on Sunday and I loooooove them so very much! The only bummer is that I can't wear my wedding or anniversary rings, but I did slip them on today just to see how the rings would look with my tattoos. They are healing nicely and surprisingly did not hurt as much as I feared they would.

Oh-So Flowy Pants

The current trend in my dressing seems to be me throwing on things that I haven't worn in a very long time and realizing how much they are comfy and wonderful. I also forgot how lovely is it to be wearing wide leg pants.

It was the perfect day to play in the wind while wearing such flowy pants and such a flowy tank. I ran some errands and have been putting a bunch of new items up on my etsy page. It's fun to dress up in vintage clothing, I get to see myself in different styles. Yet, I'll stick to what I have going on now Hehe!

Is it weird to look at this photo and think, "Whoa, I have cool tattoos!" Never hurts to look at yourself from different aspects as well. *Wink*

Kitsch Picks : After Inked

There are so many methods of tattoo aftercare, yet with one main focus in mind-healing it without infection or loss of ink. Though I've tired many products over the years, I was so impressed with the sample of After Inked that I received at a tattoo convention that I got Derek to give it a try and now we're both on our second tube!

The reasons why I like After Inked is that it's easy to use, feels great and is a product that you can use right after tattooing straight through the healing process to moisturize and help protect the tattoo. I am so anal about the cleanliness of healing a tattoo as I want my color to stay put and to avoid infection...I've seen infected tattoos and it is not a pretty sight. Though After Inked is not antimicrobial (no product can guarantee against a possible infection) it is a good defense along with proper washing and avoiding wearing soiled clothing, laying on soiled sheets/blankets, etc. After Ink also isn't filled with nasty chemicals and is paraben and petroleum free, cruelty-free and vegan. The best part is that it will not stick to your clothes. Hallelujah!

I'm pretty excited about After Inked, but I always advise to talk to your tattoo artist about tattoo aftercare and their recommendations. I've been getting tattoo for several years, so my personal tattoo aftercare is second nature and I am not a professional tattoo artist.

Adventures : Roc City Tattoo Expo

Derek and I attended the Roc City Tattoo Expo in Rochester, NY on Sunday to get tattooed by Derek's friend Ezra Haidet from Austin, Texas. We were both excited to see Ezra, get one of his fabulous tattoos and see old and new friends.

Convention outfit. Simple and comfortable.

Derek and I love Pug dogs (even though we don't have any pets...yet!) and one thing that Ezra likes to tattoo is Pugs as he has two of his own...and a mini pig!

Tattoo conventions are a fun place to get tattooed by artists who live out of town and/or have a special style that you enjoy. I can't wait for Ezra to come to next year's Roc City, so I can get another little Pug friend tattoo!

It's Finished.....For Now

The first photo is my "it's going to hurt" face. I'm joking around, but it does hurt!

Derek was kind enough to fill in my chest tattoos yesterday, yes I thank my husband for hurting me. Haha! I think I've had the outline on my chest for about a year and it's time to complete this project as well as several others that need to be completed. Oh golly gee.

I wore a tube top during the 6 hour tattoo session (with a break for dinner!) and while I was laying there I got to thinking, "What the heck am I going to wear the rest of the week!?". That's something people never tell you when you're thinking about getting a tattoo, how to dress around your specific healing tattoo! Though I've sat many, many, MANY hours in the chair, I still hate the healing process with a burning passion....literally. There is something totally gross about having to lube your tattoo up and then potentially have bits of your clothing stick to it. ACK! 

A few dressing suggestions that I've found to help around the healing process:

-Wear loose fitting clothing for any tattoos on your (body) trunk/biceps. Try and keep clothing off your tattoo as much as possible.

-Billowing skirts for leg/thigh tattoos

-Keep clothing edges from rubbing on any part of your tattoo, cuff pants and shirts.

-Always wear clean garments. i.e : Once you wear a t-shirt or pj's to bed change into something clean the next night

-Wear garments that make the tattoo easily accessible. If you're at work on a bathroom break and need to reapply ointment, you want to be able to do it quickly and cleanly.

-Change your sheets, this isn't fashion related, but you can get infections from dirty blankets, sheets and towels too!

Some weird things I do:

Wash my hair/shave my legs before getting tattooed. Ok, I'm not a dirty hairy beast, but it makes my life a lot easier to not have to worry about washing my hair and/or shaving for a few days, this way I don't have to do weird acrobatics in the shower to avoid soaking the tattoo. Then again, what would weird acrobatics entail?....hrmmmm.....

Oh my, I didn't mean for this blog to turn into, "Tattoo healing time at Coffin Kitsch", but I think my brain has been tattooed after yesterday's session, so there ya go!

Tube Tops, Tattoos and Cocktails!

It's been a while since I've talked about one of my favorite things, COCKTAILS! Yay! This week's recipe is inspired by my most recent tattoo additions (first sitting), two new coffin tattoos on my chest.

Since I have a silly sense of humor, let's drink some slippery nipples in honor of deathrock tube tops! Huzzah! P.S.-Tube tops (a.k.a boob tubes) are recommended for the healing of chest tattoos

Slippery Nipple:

-1 oz. Bailey's Irish Cream

-1oz. Sambuca

Pour Sambuca in a shot glass and float Bailey's on top. Mmmmmmmm nippley!

Dang, It's Hot Out!

Over the weekend it reached a record 89 degrees in Buffalo and for it only being May it's sorta insane! I have to admit I love warm weather, but the humidity is a killer, especially when you're trying to look cute when you're really melting. Ugh! The other reason why I don't enjoy the warm weather is the skin becomes more exposed and the staring, comments and harassment starts when you are tattooed. Usually people's comments don't bother me or when they strike up a conversation based on their admiration of my work, yet sometimes I want to just to go the store, buy my crap and get the hell outta there. People can truly be rude, yet I know it comes with the territory of being a tattoo individual or anyone who is 'out of the norm'. Most of the time I tell them to go to hell in my head and keep on smiling. *Wink*.

Let the skin exposure begin, now with shorts! Eeeeeeek!

Sorry I'm Late! Sophistique Noir's Monthly Theme : Flowers

I had a hard time with this one until I light bulb went off, "I have flowers tattooed on me!". Wow, talk about a "duh" moment! So, I'm late to the game and double blogging today. *Wink*

On my right leg, pretty hibiscus flowers and a sugar skull, one of my husbands specialities.

A little blurry, but my blue rose for my mother on my right inner forearm. My mother loves flowers and the color blue.

A little collection of some of my cherry blossoms on my left arm ditch. The blue lady bug for my best friend Melanie, the skull with the pompadour is my husband. The lips are also my Cure tattoo which is album art from the vinyl LP cover of"Jumping Someone Else's Train". Not floral, I just love the lips. Hehehe!

I apologize about my poor attempts at watermarking the photos, my husband did all the tattoos and not only do I guard his work, I also guard my tattoo artwork. I don't like to post my tattoo's all over the place as people do not understand the proper tattoo etiquette and mainly not stealing or directly copying people's tattoo's from the Internet.
