Weekend Vanity

Our weekend kicked off with going to Snake Dance, our friend Bryan's dance night. Time to get dressed up, give our skeleton a little kiss (scandalous!) and be off to the club for some dancing.

My outfit was pretty simple; tank top, leggings, short ruffled skirt, a little sweater and winklepickers. A heavy sprinkling of accessories and Voila! Comfortable club outfit for when I was feeling lazy and uninspired.

Saturday was Siouxsie Sioux 60th birthday, so I opted to wear a Siouxsie and the Banshees t-shirt in her honor. Since we were heading to a show that evening that was themed in her honor, I figured the modified top was a perfect choice. I've been going through my t-shirts and have been giving them some new life *wink*.

The evening was very nice as I got to see a lot of friends that I hadn't seen in a long time. I was also glad it was a relatively early evening as we had a very big house project to accomplish the next day. Damn, I sound old and responsible! When did that happen?!?! Hahaha!

Speaking of vanity, our front garden got some love and we put in a raised bed with some small shrubs. The beautification took place all day Sunday and all the lifting, sweating and multiple trips to Home Depot was totally worth it! Check this off the 'To-Do' list...

Haters Roast : The Shady Tour

I mentioned in my last post that I was recovering from all the Sunday fun, and that fun revolved around seeing the Queens on the Haters Roast: The Shady Tour. These are some of the Queens from all different seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race including; (left to right) Jinkx Monsoon, Kim Chi, (me, j/k), Acid Betty, Phi Phi O'hara, Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 and Bob the Drag Queen. We had the chance to do a meet and greet before the actual show and I'm so glad we did! *Sigh* :)

Derek and I had to get gussied up, as not only are going to see drag queens perform a perfect opportunity to put on some of our best duds, but it's the best time to let your inner drag queen shine. (Or outer drag queen. Heeheheh!)

Derek's suit was quite the hit with all the Queens and Bob (the Drag Queen) said to me, "Come on up Cyndi Lauper", when it was my time to have my photo taken. Tooo funny! Shout out to the black tulle skirt I snatched up on ebay, it's nice and full and just what I was looking for this event.

Derek and I headed to Club Marcella for the after show and got to hang out with some of the Queens including; Acid Betty (top), Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 (middle) and Jinkx Monsoon (bottom). I did chat with Bob the Drag Queen briefly, but I was too nervous to ask for a photo. *Insert fan girling* Everyone was so sweet and it was nice to just hang and chat about life, the show and where they are traveling to or what projects they are currently working on. It was such a magical night that we didn't get into bed until 4am!!! That is a CRAZY night for us and totally worth it. I'm still floating on a cloud.

Another fun photo with Jinkx since she's such a doll!!!

P.S. My eyelashes were falling off, which never happens to me....ARGH!! Embarrassing LOL!

Let's Dance!

February has flown by for me, so much so I was a little surprised that our monthly goth/punk night (War Dance) came up so quick! This month I choose another 80s piece that I found while thrifting and I'm so glad I found this beauty. Not only did I pick it up for next-to-nothing, it fits like a glove and it's incredibly comfortable, fun to dance in and will be a great dress to style in multiple ways.

Wearing; 80s dress (thrifted), 80s chain belt (estate sale), scarab necklace (boutique in Pittsburgh, PA), cross earrings (The Pumpkin Coven), winklepicker skull buckle boots (Demonia, second hand via ebay), bead bracelets (various places/second hand)

I love, love, LOVE the lace details at the shoulders and the very low lace panel on the back of the dress. The skirt is ultra twirly, so that was an added bonus while I was dancing the night away. Side note-I danced so much that I had terrible knee pain the next day. Hahaha! Older goth's just want to have fun, but pay it the next day.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend, they always go by too quickly!

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Old Goths Staying Up Past Their Bedtime

On Friday Derek and I attend our friend Bryan's club night and stayed up past our bedtime and got tacos after, just like the olden days. Hehe! I got to wear a vintage 1980s Frederick's of Hollywood black velvet drapey dress. I picked it up at an estate sale this past Autumn and I thought an old school punk/80s/goth night was the perfect time to wear it out. The dress is super easy and fun to dance in, I got a lot of compliments which made me smile.

Of course the dapper (and goofy) Derek was dressed to the nine's, even though he wouldn't stand still long enough for me to get a proper photo. Hehehe!

I'm wearing; 80s velvet dress (vintage, estate sale find), spider web stocking (Be Wicked), boots (Demonia, used from eBay), cross belt (old, Forever 21), nose chain (made by me), ankh earrings (etsy), leather and chain collar (Spikes and Leather).

We had a great night and I can't wait until next month's event!

Chain, Chain, Chains

Hello friends! On Friday Derek and I went out to a friend's goth/punk night, chatted with friends and danced our bums off. It was a blast! I haven't danced that much in a very long time and I loved every minute of it.

dress also shown here

Wearing; cropped cardigan (Le Bomb Shop), tulle dress (Allentown Dress shop-local to Buffalo), chain collar (Spikes and Studs), cross belt (old, Forever 21), bat belt (eBay), winklepickers (vintage, Underground boots via etsy).

I constantly get asked where I got the leather bat belt from, so here is the eBay seller: SilverSpider2000. I can't give away all my secrets, but there you go! Hehehe!

I also need to give a shout out to my Mom who gave me birthday money (several birthday's ago) to buy myself something and I got this collar. When my Mom asked what I got myself with the money, I replied "A collar" and she wasn't surprised at all. Hahahaha!!!! Oh Mom, you know your daughter so well.

My dapper date <3

"May I Please Borrow Your Big Bat Necklace"

That was the exact question I texted Derek last night, "May I please borrow your big bat necklace". I went out by myself last night to a local goth club night and met up with my best friend. Derek didn't feel like going out after a long day at work, so I ventured out on my own borrowing Derek's Alchemy Gothic bat necklace (a gift from me) which was the only thing I could think of wearing amongst the dense ruffles of my shirt.

I like big bats and I can not lie....

The high collar ruffled shirt was a gift from Derek several years ago, back when Lip Service was making some great pieces, like this white ruffled shirt Derek also gifted me. The black ruffled shirt that I'm wearing was in the 'club clothes' section of my closet (which is teeny tiny now) and I realized it need to be mixed into my other button-up blouses and get incorporated into more outfits. My life of haunting the club every week has changed to haunting my own home, but I want to wear my beautiful things all the time and make good use out of them.

It was nice to blow off some steam as we've been dealing with a lot of house stresses, planning, problem solving and worrying. In my world, things happen in 3's and it's sorta getting out of hand. Hahaha! Staying positive is what I am focused on....

I'm wearing a black ruffled blouse (old, Lip Service), black trousers (Forever 21), DIY jacket (old, Switchblade Stiletto), pointy buckle boots (Nasty Gal, Shoe Cult brand?), bat necklace (Alchemy Gothic via ebay), ankh earrings (etsy), and black felt hat (old, Forever 21). Lipstick color is Ravishin' Raisin by Wet n' Wild.

Throwback Thursday : Club Edition

Danielle and I at the (now defunct) Continental in very early 2000's. That bondage dress I'm wearing was amazing and I wish I had held onto it!

Staying Up Late and Nachos

I was smiling, I swear!

Saturday night we went out to a random alternative dance night that was at Ohm Ultra Lounge, which is the bar/club which we used to have On the Wire. (On the Wire was the post punk/goth event I threw with my friend Danielle).

I figured it was a great excuse to tease out the hair, put some black brows and go out dancing!

I didn't cut my hair (and the lighting is making it look pink), I just styled it in a different way. I used A LOT of hair spray, since I was fighting with the rain and humidity.

The night was better attended than I had anticipated. We hung out, chatted with owner and the security guard, and then went out for NACHOS!!! I've been really eating well, (also cutting down on my alcohol in-take) so eating junk food like nachos was a real treat. Mmmmm, especially from ETS which was "our place" we would go to after going clubbing every weekend.

Now I'm thinking about those nachos all over again. So good!

How was your weekend?

Last Weekend

Saturday afternoon was filled with me presenting a class on measuring yourself for a proper fit in retro style clothing. I was incredibly nervous, but the gals who came made it easy and fun. I emphasized that size is just a number in clothing and it doesn't define you as a person, it is just what those companies decided to use as their measurements to determine their sizing. Size is a sensitive subject, but focusing on what looks good on you and how you feel rather than the size is always my main goal!

Photo with one of my best friends, Danielle

After work I went home to color my hair back to lavender, make dinner and got ready to go out to a local bar for a goth/alternative music night. Though the event was small, we all had a great time on a lovely Spring evening.

Goth group shot! Derek, myself, Sebastian and Danielle

Second shot with flash. Hissssss! Hahaha!

My blue steel face. (photos from Danielle)

Monday was a punk show at one of the punk houses in town. Since Derek and I have off Sundays and Mondays, we consider this day part of our weekend. The main band we wanted to see was Silence from Pittsburgh, PA, who may be the gothest punk band and I told them that! They were great, but I felt sorta bad for them as the punks didn't seem too into them and the room was half full. Oh well, we dug them and bought their demo and pins, I do love my pins!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Merry Midsummer!

Happy Summer Solstice and Merry Midsummer! I spent the day working and then went to On the Wire in the evening. It was a wonderful evening to be hanging out on the club's patio and enjoy great music and friends.

I was excited to wear this Stevie Nicks-esque dress that I bought at a local boutique, The Allentown Dress Shoppe. I hadn't been in the store since the 90s when I would go in and drool over all the velvet and lace clothing. I could never afford to buy anything with my teenage part-time pay checks, so I was pleasantly surprised that the shop still carries some lovely lacey frocks. I think the 16 year old me would approve.

I rummaged through the jewelry box and pulled out the black necklace that adorns my collar, it's a very old piece that I cherish. I bought this necklace at a store in Toronto named Siren, which was a staple place (sadly now closed) to shop for goth clothing. Living in Buffalo and having Canada right across the river, Toronto was like our "big city" and I used to be in Toronto almost every weekend. In fact, on a Toronto trip to see Phantom of the Opera at the age of ten is when I saw my first glimpse of goth. I still remember two goth girls walking down the street wearing beautiful Victorian dresses with parasol's and long black hair. I poked my mom and said, "Look at those girls!". My mom replied, "How pretty, they are wearing Victorian clothing. You like Victorian things". I still remember how elegant their dresses looked while blowing in the wind. Sigh.

Of course I can't leave this blog post too sentimental. Here's a goofy pic! I had lipstick on my teeth and Derek's face just happen to be too perfect. Haha!!!

Radiation Club Nights

What is this? Going out to a club twice in once month? Derek and I headed to Radiation on Friday for a few hours since work was calling on Saturday and frankly, we're not night owls. Oh, how times have changed!

I forgot about this tunic top I'm wearing under the cardigan, it has wonderful side ruching and looks great with patterned leggings like these from Carousel Ink. I got inspired and tried searching around on the internet for something similar to the tunic, but everything is cropped or not ruched or "what the?", so I'm going to have to wait...and wait...and wait.

Derek told me to pose like a "primate", so this is what he got!

And it's good to pose with cleaning items like this Bissell carpet sweeper that was nearby.

By Friday it had already been a long week, so I was sort of zoning out at the bar, but got to chat with friends and dance to a few songs. Short and sweet, but fun!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

On the Wire : April

Saturday was On the Wire's April event and between getting home from work, painting up my face, spraying my hair and frantically finding something to wear (I tried to plan, but I hated everything I put on) and be to the venue by 10:30, I had no time for a proper outfit photo.

I haven't worn this Lip Service dress since last year:

As I'm looking at the blog post that these photos were featured, I am realizing that this dress seems to be a once-a-year piece. Haha! I did layer a skater skirt under the dress to give it more volume and length, so perhaps it will see the light of day more....or darkness of night!

I do have to take a minute and praise two products, e.l.f Studio Lip Lock and NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick, as my lipstick stayed all night and didn't feather at all. Biggest bonus, I did not feel like my lips were cakey and chapped, so I didn't even bother reapplying. I keep going back to NYX for my lip liners and lipsticks, they have great colors and I can't complain about their budget-friendly prices.

What lip products do you like that keep your lipstick/gloss/etc. staying put?

Thank you for hanging out with me!
