Weekend Vanity

Our weekend kicked off with going to Snake Dance, our friend Bryan's dance night. Time to get dressed up, give our skeleton a little kiss (scandalous!) and be off to the club for some dancing.

My outfit was pretty simple; tank top, leggings, short ruffled skirt, a little sweater and winklepickers. A heavy sprinkling of accessories and Voila! Comfortable club outfit for when I was feeling lazy and uninspired.

Saturday was Siouxsie Sioux 60th birthday, so I opted to wear a Siouxsie and the Banshees t-shirt in her honor. Since we were heading to a show that evening that was themed in her honor, I figured the modified top was a perfect choice. I've been going through my t-shirts and have been giving them some new life *wink*.

The evening was very nice as I got to see a lot of friends that I hadn't seen in a long time. I was also glad it was a relatively early evening as we had a very big house project to accomplish the next day. Damn, I sound old and responsible! When did that happen?!?! Hahaha!

Speaking of vanity, our front garden got some love and we put in a raised bed with some small shrubs. The beautification took place all day Sunday and all the lifting, sweating and multiple trips to Home Depot was totally worth it! Check this off the 'To-Do' list...

This Old Goth Haus: Getting Ready for the Summer

Celebrating getting 'shit done'

Derek and I have been cleaning up the death and decay that Winter brought upon the yard and around our humble abode. We are getting ready for warmer weather! The grill has been cleaned, outdoor furniture has been taken out of the shed, I cleaned up dead leaves and other various trash, and we put up the screen for the garage. A.K.A - Our Tiki hut.

We are also pretty darn excited to have the last part of our sewer project which will be completed tomorrow. The sump pump discharge (and downspout) will be tied into our sewer line, which will stop the swamp forming in our front yard. Yay! Once the pipeline is laid underground, we can then fix up the front garden and add shrubs. Our little goth haus won't look so sad any more! Hahahaha!

I got a little creative and made some little flower planters out of plastic pink lawn flamingos. I purchased some inexpensive flamingos (The Christmas Tree store), a four pack of little plastic pots (Dollar Tree) and some purple pansies (Home Depot). I used a very sharp utility knife and cut a rectangular hole in the back section of the flamingo, then I put the pansies in the little pots and fit the flower pot into the hole. Voila! Kitschy planters. I have some ideas involving Halloween blow molds for the front of the house, looks like I can't be stopped! Creepy in the front, Tiki in the back, the best of both our worlds. Hahahaa!!!

We both have black thumbs (no goth pun intended), so I'm happy to report that I've only killed one plant so far. Sigh.......

The Roof Is On Fire! (But, Not Literally)

The roof is finished! Last week was totally crazy, nerve racking, and let's face it...expensive. As I type this the guys are cleaning up and I am so relieved as two major house projects in one month's time have been completed. Though the house is seriously lacking landscaping and my window sills are full of crap, and I have a bit of clean up to do, I'm still happy. Even with my car needing a major repair (2nd opinion confirmed the 1st diagnosis), it's not dimming my spirit!

Later on I'm cracking open a bottle of wine to celebrate having my sanity back....sorta. Hahaha!!!

Backyard Adventures: Now with Moai!

Our Moai arrived yesterday! He's small and made of light weight resin, but we still love him all the same. As you can see this section of our yard is now filled with pea pebbles as this is my solution to dealing with weeds as well as our vision to put a water feature in this area. In the process of buying the house, the previous owners wanted to take their Japanese Maple tree, which was planted in this corner and we agreed. I didn't care for the landscaping and plants they had in the back and front yards, so at the end of last summer we dug up a lot of the plants up and gave them away. Derek and I are not gardeners and pretty much have black thumbs (no goth pun intended), yet we want to have some plants that are low maintenance and luckily there are a lot of Hostas around the house!

The rest of the small garden in the backyard will be weeded, some Hostas moved to look more balanced, weed barrier put down and then pea pebble. We've had our eyes on some planters, including this skull planter to have some visual interest our backyard oasis as well as keeping plants neat and organized..if that makes any sense. 

What I really want our backyard to look like. Hahahaha!!!

Back in the garden today, I hope I get a lot accomplished as I can't wait until the weather gets warmer and we can sit in the yard with a Mai Tai and just watch the world go by. Hehe!

Halloween at This Old Goth Haus

Welcome to This Old Goth Haus : Halloween addition! I'm so excited to share some bits and bobs of Halloween decor at our haunt! Of course, the outside decor looks so much better lite up, but doesn't make for a great photo. Boooo!

Lanterns and tissue paper bat balls hang from the archway. Our vulture is perched on the Tiki idol along with a lantern on the side table.

(Pardon the cords) Blow molds and light up pumpkin spider and bat. So silly and fun!

No surface is safe! Tombstones and witches and vampires, oh my!

I had to have that pile of skulls, it just makes the house so much more cozy. LOL!

The credenza is full of Halloween fun!

The kitchen shelves just got put up, so we can display our vintage pieces and blow molds. 

Having a vintage Halloween-inspired kitchen just makes me smile! 

I hope you enjoyed a little glimpse into our world, it's been so much fun decorating the house for our first Halloween! I've already bought lots of candy as we can't wait for the trick or treaters!
