Everyday Is Halloween

Last night was Radiation, my favorite monthly event in Buffalo, so we got dressed up for dancing and hanging out with friends. I decided to wear some things hanging in my closet that I hadn't worn out, yet pieces of this outfit were worn for my E.L.F cosmetics video.

I heard people saying, "Everyday is Halloween?" Yes it is, Al Jourgensen says so! I also had a spill at the club, someone was right under my foot and they stepped on me as I was stomping on them (giant platforms) and down I went. It was nice that people rushed over to give me a hand up, I have to admit I rarely get embarrassed when I do fall, as when you wear 6.5 inch platforms and are 31, you worry about breaking an ankle rather than your pride. *Wink*

What I wore:
Button-up shirt: Lip Service (Hot Topic)
Spider web tie: Sourpuss Clothing
Vest: Switchblade Stiletto from Cats Like Us with DIY patch by me
Skirt: thrifted
Spider web stockings: Leg Avenue from Cats Like Us
Boots: Demonia and DIY'ed by my husband

Cocktail Friday : Snake Bite

Photobucket

I am drinking Woodchuck cider, the Amber flavor and it's deeeeeee-licious! I wasn't drunk in these pictures, just acting silly (what else is new?!) on a Wednesday evening. While the husband is away the wife drinks all the cider, mwahahahaha!

I'm not a big fan of beer, yet I've been wanting to try a Snake Bite which is equal parts cider with lager beer. I have heard a lot of British pubs serve Snake Bites and I believe that's where my husband has first tried one. I, of course, am envious that he's even been to Britain or the UK in general, we're hoping to visit in 2013! If you see a crazy American girl skipping around and looking REALLY happy, that will be me, stop and say "Hi!". *Wink*

Here is another recipe I'd like to try, it's called a Bat Bite.

2 Shots Spiced Rum
Fill the rest (of the glass) with Cranberry Juice
Splash of Grenadine

Pour all ingredients over ice in your fancy glass and enjoy!

Mmmmmmmmmm, I love the name too!

Shoes! OMG! : Open Toe Studded T-Strap Wedge

Photobucket
Admittedly I would normally disregard a sandal like this as I'm not normally a huge fan of a wide t-strap, but the Hailey Jeans Co. convinced me that this Women's Open Toe Studded T-Strap Wedge is worth a wolf whistle! If you're anything like me, summer footwear that I like is slim pickings as I find most of them too summery (like pastel flowers) or too high and just plain too ugly. These wedges have a black base (bonus!), have studs on them and have just the right balance of sexy, yet functional. I would wear these for an evening dinner with a little flowy black dress or pair them with a black skirt and t-shirt for an afternoon car show or casual lunch. I think I was sold on the studs, my inner punk agrees!

Video Blog : E.L.F Cosmetics Review

Hello readers! Here's another installment of Dippity Durr Productions by Meagan Kyla (I just like calling it this, as it's all silly anyways!). I'm rabbling about E.L.F Cosmetics and having some "durr moments", it wouldn't be me without some memory loss. Wait...what was I talking about again? *Wink*

Okay so I ramble and repeat myself, oops!

Thanks to Miss Zillah at midnightpoesy.blogspot.com for the advice on the primer, sorry I butchered your beautiful name!

Happy Birthday Robert Smith

Photobucket

Happy Birthday Robert Smith! One my most favorite teased hair and gothy icons turned 53 on April 21st. I know I've mentioned The Cure and Robert Smith on my blog before, so I know this won't come as a shock that I'm writing a whole blog about the crazy 'Cure Lady' that I am. Despite them being my favorite band and Robert Smith being one of my favorite singers (and one of my fashion icons), I don't listen to them everyday. As much as I love their gloomy pop songs into somber and melodic post-punk tunes, The Cure have been know to depress me from time to time....shocking, I know. I can relate particular time periods in my life to certain Cure songs, whether good or bad, they will always be my favorite band. I think Robert Smith's is a lyrical genius and I can get lost in his words and images that they bring to my mind. I'm pretty much a closet hopeless romantic and Robert brings that out of me. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone!

Disintegration era Robert

My husband had a cancellation on Robert's birthday (Saturday) and asked if I wanted to come in and work on some of my pieces that need to be finished. Since I've been toying with the idea of getting a Robert Smith tattoo, I suggested that in honor of Robert's birthday we start a new piece, well Derek wasn't going to say no to that (he's a big fan too). The photo above is just the first sitting and I pretty much giggled with delight the whole time. Robert now lives on my left thigh front and center, so when I sit and look down, there he is! I didn't think I'd ever get someone elses face tattooed on me, yet this portrait is something that makes me smile and I like to put things permanently on me that do just that.... makes me smile. *Does the Robert Smith dance*

On a personal note, I've been sorta quiet on my blog due to just needing to step back from the internet and concentrate more on my sewing, projects around the house and getting OUT of the house. I sorta related it to having a mini (internet) vacation. The internet is a time sucker and I love reading everyone's blogs and catching up with my friends, but I've decided to step back and erase things like my tumblr which was just a huge distraction. Limiting my internet use and going outside to play has been good for my soul! I highly suggest a mini internet-cation or limiting your use for a few days, it's sorta liberating. *Wink*

Friday the 13th

I'm not superstitious at all, so Friday the 13th is just another day to enjoy spooky-inspired puns and write the number 13 on everything! I've been sewing like a mad woman lately and took some time to make a new back patch for myself. I'm always creating things that I love and want to keep, but I have restraint myself or else I'd have nothing in my etsy shop! I started DIY-ing my clothing again as I just never quite find what I want and paying exorbitant prices on something just because it has a spooky graphic makes my wallet cry. (Don't get me wrong, support independent designers/stores!) Anywho, here's what I wore out to one of our local gothy-type nights.

Photobucket
I'm gonna party like it's 1984!

The DJ played Alien Sex Fiend into Christian Death into The Sisters of Mercy, all the old folks were out on the dance floor. It made me smile :)

Cocktail Friday : Mai Tai

It's officially ten weeks until Luau at the Lake in Lake George, NY! This is our big vacation in which we spend a whole weekend with other Tiki enthusiast's who take over The Tiki Resort in Lake George. The resort is the perfect back drop to a luau by the pool, underneath the stars, while sipping on cocktails. I feel more relaxed just talking about it. Ahhhhhhh...... I have mentioned Luau at the Lake on my blog before and have shown some pictures of the last two years we attended. This year I'm looking forward to meeting up with some of the nice people we've met and making some new friends! Oh, did I mention cocktails? Yes, there will be a lot of tropical libations consumed, in a leisurely time. *Wink*

Here's one to try, the Mai Tai which became popular in the 50s and 60s. You can find so many variations of the cocktail recipe, here is one that I enjoy.

Mr. Booze's Mai Tai recipe:

2 oz. Dark Rum
1 oz. Apricot Brandy
1 oz. Curacao (I would not recommend Blue Curacao it turns the drink a weird color)
1 oz. Light Rum (Also known as Silver Rum)
3 oz. Lime Juice (this is WAY too much for me, we cut it down to 1 oz.)
3 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 oz. Almond Syrup (if you have Orgeat Syrup, that is preferred)

Shake this up with ice and pour into a tall glass or Tiki mug

This drink is delicious and STRONG, it will have you doing the hula before you even ask for another one. I've been known to not even finish the first one and I LOVE Mai Tai's. *Hiccup*

Onto more Tiki..............

I've broadcast my Dippity Durr Meagan Productions videos in my Tiki Room and it's been moved around since then, though it's not finished I wanted to share our insanity with you. Please note, this is not all of our Tiki items, some are in storage.

Photobucket

My husband and I picked up this piece of Witco (to the left) at a local vintage shop. You should have seen the look on his face when he found it, like he had found the Holy Grail. Witco is pretty damn ugly, but it's nice to own another piece of it. The first piece we have Derek found at a garage sale for 75 cents and it was beat up, he fixed it up and  it will go on the wall....somewhere. Witco art is best known adorning Elvis' Jungle Room at Graceland. It's so ugly and tacky, just the way we like it.

Here are some more views of our Tiki room, mind you it's supposed to be our dining room. Pfffft, who needs a place to eat when Tiki's need a place to thrive and multiply. Well, eventually we'll up a table and chairs in here. Maybe. Hehe!

The room is rather small, but at this apartment I'm wrangling it all in one spot without it spilling over into our living room. I like to keep our "morgue chic" as my friend Danielle likes to call it, separate from the Polynesian madness.

Shoes! OMG! : L5 Victim Boots

Photobucket

The L5 Victim Boots by Pennangalan have been on my radar for years. I own Pennangalan boots and I HIGHLY recommend them when you want to save your pennies for a really nice pair of boots. I had a pair of cheap Demonia knock off's that were the short Victim ankle boots and after those died and went to shoe heaven (aka the garbage *insert very sad face*), it left a hole in my shoe loving heart! Don't you love how dramatic I am? Haha!

Pennangalan Victims
Fun with Polyvore when I'm daydreaming. A fashion tip: buckles on a boot can act like an accessory to an outfit, so think about your outfit as a whole from head to toe!

Le Professeur Gothique's Monthly Homework : Artistic Inspirations

I took time out from my usual Wednesday's Link Round-Up to participate in Le Professeur Gothique's Monthly Homework Assignment and this month it is artistic inspirations. My husband is someone who inspires me on a daily basis from his drawings to paintings to art work on skin. Here are some of his Dead Mary's which became popular for years while he traveled around to tattoo conventions.

My husband has hand painted every single thing on these Dead Mary's as well as made the sculpt which he then turned into a mold to reproduce the Dead Mary plaster base. Amazing isn't it? He has such an eye for detail! I'm still amazed at the white/orange/green diamond pattern Dead Mary, all those little bats, witches, jack-o-lanterns are immaculate!

She's In Parties.........

I've been upcycling a lot of thrifted jackets for my etsy shop and they've have been selling things like hot cakes (mmmmm.....hot cakes), so I ventured out with my friend Sarah to replenish my depleted stash. I often restrain myself from buying everything in sight, especially jackets since I'm a self proclaimed jacket-o-holic. I do pick up things here and there to not modify to sell as not everyone has the patience, skill or passion to thrift. There is a world of awesome slightly used items out there! Well, I picked up this Betseyville light weight long ruffled sweater for $4 to resell.

Photobucket

Once I put it on to photograph and paired it with my awesomely 80s stretch belt (picked up for $1 at an outdoor market) and my new pointy Demonia skull boots, I just couldn't resist keeping this lovely sweater. I have to admit the gothy ruffly sleeves really did me in, I love the drama!

Photobucket
Goth salute? ? ? ?
It's funny taking photos of myself, sometimes I get slightly embarrassed when I post them and sometimes I'm drinking a glass of wine (or two) and just let the blogs fly! I really enjoy reading other people's blogs and since I think there is an art to dressing, makeup skills, and craft skills, I just hope others enjoy my little slice of the internet. I think that's what I enjoy the most about blogging, is getting a glimpse into another ones world that I may not normally have contact with, especially if we live on the opposite ends of the world. It truly is not vanity, it's sharing information about the regular world around you or perhaps the 'highlights' of who YOU are. Life is about celebrating yourself and being proud of what you can contribute to the world around you, you never know who's life you can touch with the slightest things. It took me a long time to realize that I love helping people look and feel good, it's truly a passion of mine. I believe every person has a special 'something' about them which can be expressed through the visual art of dress, in their own way, yet some just may need a little help getting there. The little shy girl who lives inside me has a special place in my heart for those who don't have the tools to break out of their shell, I can be your little push with my goofy antics and silly words. *Wink*

Weird tangent, I know. I've been pondering things I've been reading about people getting bullied on their blogs or feeling less than confident with themselves. I say, haters are going to hate and I'm not immune to it, yet I believe we're all allowed our little place in this world to shine. <3

Coffin Kitsch's Guide To Bandana's And How To Forget Things

Coffin Kitsch's guide to bandana's and how to forget things.......

'Ladies In Black' Quarterly Theme : Siouxsie Sioux

Photobucket

Miss Elizabeth of Bethezda's Preoccupations proposed a quarterly theme for our 'Ladies In Black' group and the first person is Siouxsie Sioux, needless to say a lot of us we quite excited. I don't have an exact time as to when I became enamored with Siouxsie Sioux or when I first heard the band Siouxsie and the Banshees, but their music helped shape my musical tastes and fashion style.

I am not going to lie and say I was born a goth and always wore black. My love of music started in the early 80s with my brother who listened to everything from Warrant to U2 to Beastie Boys to Trinere (freestyle!) to Depeche Mode, etc. My brother has all different types of friends and was a music lover who didn't limit himself, I still thank him for that. My journey into darkness started in high school, my first boyfriend (at 14) was obsessed with The Cure and drown me in cassette's with tons of rarities and b-sides, he also listened to The Sisters of Mercy, The Creatures, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Though I was involved with the hardcore and rave scene at the time, I always listened to a variety of music. I didn't identify myself as a goth (nor did I look like a goth), yet the post-punker was budding inside me. It wasn't until I became friend's with a group of older goths (I was 16 and they were 18, sooo old! Haha!) that I was totally immersed into the goth/post-punk music culture and used to hang out for hours and listen to music and watch videos. I also have my friend Paul to thank, as he really helped to shape this post-punk girl's taste's. The rest, they say, is history.

Halloween 2010
While I started slowly creeping to the 'dark side' (PS-I hate the term "baby bat"), I loved to look at photos of; Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Andrew Eldritch, and Ogre of Skinny Puppy. The big teased hair, raccoon eyes and black drapey clothing made me swoon.....well it still does. *Wink* I have Siouxsie Sioux to thank, as she made me want big teased hair!

Photobucket

Photobucket

More photos from Halloween 2010. Funny story about our costumes, we literally made them on Halloween day! We had already done 3 costumes for other Halloween parties and didn't want to repeat, so we ventured off to Spirit (Halloween store) and picked up these silly wigs which I cut, teased, colored, etc. to get them to try and look like Robert Smith's and Siouxsie's glorious mops. Not too shabby for a very last minute costume idea. We had fun having a Halloween drink at a local hangout and people appreciated our efforts. Heck, dressing up like Siouxsie and wearing a dark wig made me decide to take the plunge and get out of my blonde hair rut and try on a new darker shade of hair....I'm glad I did.

One of my favorites!

Cocktail Friday : Citrus White Wine Spritzer

Snap shot of grape vines along the 90 interstate to Ohio
While I slightly cursed the strange and early heat wave we had last month, I am wishing for summer nights to lounge out on the patio and sip cocktails under the stars. The Citrus White Wine Spritzer is a perfect drink to put me in the summer state of mind.

Ingredients:
2 lemon slices
2 lime slices
Ice cubes
4 oz. Pinot Grigio or other white wine (a Riesling is a delightful option)
2 oz. lemon lime flavored seltzer water

In a large stem glass arrange lemon and lime slices between ice cubes. Pour 4 oz. of white wine, 2 oz of lemon lime seltzer over the fruit and ice. Enjoy!

*Cheers*

Sorry I'm Late! Sophistique Noir's Monthly Theme : Flowers

I had a hard time with this one until I light bulb went off, "I have flowers tattooed on me!". Wow, talk about a "duh" moment! So, I'm late to the game and double blogging today. *Wink*

Photobucket

On my right leg, pretty hibiscus flowers and a sugar skull, one of my husbands specialities.

Photobucket

A little blurry, but my blue rose for my mother on my right inner forearm. My mother loves flowers and the color blue.

Photobucket

A little collection of some of my cherry blossoms on my left arm ditch. The blue lady bug for my best friend Melanie, the skull with the pompadour is my husband. The lips are also my Cure tattoo which is album art from the vinyl LP cover of"Jumping Someone Else's Train". Not floral, I just love the lips. Hehehe!

I apologize about my poor attempts at watermarking the photos, my husband did all the tattoos and not only do I guard his work, I also guard my tattoo artwork. I don't like to post my tattoo's all over the place as people do not understand the proper tattoo etiquette and mainly not stealing or directly copying people's tattoo's from the Internet.

My Weekend Looks

Photobucket

Friday was spent running a few errands in black skinny jeans, creeper shoes, and a typical button-up and cardigan combo. I like to do a single cuff on my jeans to show a little sock and I don't like when a pant sort of 'pools' at the shoe.

Photobucket

I went to a celebration on Saturday evening for Danielle who is one of my oldest and dearest friends. It was her 30th birthday party and I told her, "Welcome to the dark side". *Wink* We had a strange heat wave in Western NY a few weeks ago and it snowed the evening before, so I bundled up and wore my riding style boots paired with a frilly lace/cotton moto style jacket, leggings, my new Lip Service skirt and a thrifted cowl neck top I bought for 99 cents! I love that little jacket as it's a little more girly than my other moto style pieces, I bought it off eBay for $7 and I'm glad I did. I forgot to snap a photo of The Cure back patch I attached to the back.

Photobucket

I don't normally included photos of my makeup as I'm certainly not a pro, but I liked my simple face for the evening. I prefer coppers, golds and metallic's in general with black liner and a glossy lip.

Photobucket

My husband gave me a hand taking the Sunday's casual look photos. It was rainy and cold with a general overall craptastical day. Since it's one of Derek's days off, we usually go out thrifting/visit antique shops, do household D.I.Y projects, or just relax with a cocktail and a movie. I've been reaching into the closet and making myself vary my casual day looks in order to blog about them, so this Lip Service long skirt is going to get thrown into the mix. The skirt is a little cumbersome to wear as it's long on me and I'm 5' 7"! The skirt drags a little on the ground, yet the skirt looks awkward when I wear a slight platform, so I decided to throw on my Docs and hope for the best. It was also another bandana day as the rain it makes my hair sad, so I've learned it's best to cover up the mop and save myself from looking like a wet poodle. Teased hair sprayed hair + rain = curly nappy flat hair =sad face. Of course I have to mention my vintage inspired Halloween cat hoodie by Sourpuss Clothing. I love, love, LOVE anything that is vintage Halloween art, gotta love a spooky kitty cat!
