Zeeeeebra!

I always show Derek my thrift store purchases and when it came to me showing him a leopard tank top I purchased, it started a conversation about animal prints. He and I both agreed that zebra print is pretty rad and not as common to find as leopard print, so it reminded me of this little cotton zebra skirt that was tucked away in a clothing bin. Do you like animal prints?

I'm rockin' a new black blazer I purchased over the weekend from Target. Though I own many jackets, I specifically wanted this type of stretch cotton/poly blend blazer to fill my need for something comfortable and easy-to-wear for everyday. I stood in the store contemplating the price tag of $35, as paying full retail price always stops me in my tracks (at first), but the realization that it's something that I will wear a lot made me snatch it up. I am so very happy I bought this blazer, so much so I'm thinking of buying a second one!

The rest of my outfit is pretty basic; t-shirt, leggings, cotton skirt and my Docs. What's on my blazer? It's a Scottish grouse foot pin I found at one of my local flea markets for $5. It's a symbol of luck and though I'm Irish and not Scottish, I can't say no to good luck. *Wink*

Yep, the Hiya Platform Sneakers by Jeffrey Campbell are kitschy and goofy, but if you've been with me long enough you'll know I enjoy those aspects of most things. Hehe!

Secret Dinner

Derek was invited by our chef friend Ed Forster to a "secret" dinner affair by The Workshop, in which the location details were not revealed until 24 hours before the event. I jokingly said it was like a food rave, 90s style. Hehe!

The cocktail style affair took place at Silo City to my delight, as my fair city of Buffalo is home to many monolithic industrial gems that I love and now I am dining amongst them?! Yay!!!

I love the windows!

Little bits of grass and wildflowers amongst the industrial decay.

We were right on the water.

A dapper Derek enjoying one of the delicious cocktails of the evening.

The shrimp based appetizer were served on skipping stones. Brilliant!

Inside the Silo

It was a delicious and different experience that I would definitely participate in again. Here is a little write up about the event in the Buffalo News blog.

I'm getting hungry while I'm typing! Hehe!

New Modem

Phew! After a half week of frustrating days without having a modem (ours crapped out) I'm back with stories and intrigue...okay, I'm just being dramatic. I do have to say that last week was filled with getting a new little tattoo, shopping for Halloween goodies, secret destination dinner, work and On The Wire on Saturday.

Boney finger has a ribbon reminder as I'm forgetful.

Posing with the On the Wire October flyer, I've had a few drinks at this point.

I just wanted to say "Hello!" and Happy Vernal Autumnal Equinox!

Outfit of the Day : Ribcage Cardigan and New Shoes

The weather dramatically changed from 90 and humid to 50 and rainy, so I'm certainly not complaining as I got to dig out some of my jackets and sweaters.

I paired some black skinny jeans with a collared button-up, ribbon tie and this cute ribcage sweater by Too Fast Clothing. Comfy and cute!

While my friend's Christian and Marie were visiting from Pittsburgh this week, I took them thrifting and found a pair of Cuban heel western style shoes for $5!

I had tried on several pairs over the past few years, but they were always too small or too big or just were in rough shape, so I was very excited to find these beauties! I may put some metal tips on the toes, we'll see how motivated I am. *Wink*

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Shoes! OMG! : Katherine Engineer Boots

Oh, sorry I'm a day late for Shoes! OMG!, but I have a good excuse seeing as I was showing out-of-town friends around Buffalo. We had a great time and it made me realize (once again) that Buffalo is pretty rad. Anywho...

The Katherine Engineer Boots caught my eye as I've been looking for a pair of engineer boots and these are leather! The price is right and I like that there are no extra bells and whistles on the boots, perfection!

The Mission (UK)

On Friday September 6th, Derek, our friend Jason and I had the privilege to see The Mission perform at Lee's Palace in Toronto, Ontario. I am SO glad that we got to go to the show and not only to see the very talented musician's who make up The Mission, but to see Craig Adams (guitar) and Wayne Hussey (vocal, guitar) who were responsible for album First, Last and Always while they were in The Sisters of Mercy. Though I know the history of both bands, it dawned on me (at the show) while listening to Craig Adams guitar that is he played guitar on "Walk Away" and "Poison Door", two of my favorite Sisters songs. It was a pretty rad moment. <Big Smiles>

Derek is really excited to see The Mission. LOL!!!

I'm glad I didn't wear a jacket as it was very hot in the venue, then again wearing a faux leather vest probably wasn't the brightest idea, but a little sweat has never stopped me.

I definitely recommend you seeing The Mission if they come close to where you live, you will really enjoy the experience and the music. I left the show feeling inspired and enchanted.

What I am wearing:
-lace dress, $8 thrift store
-faux leather vest, Forever 21
-boots, Dolce Vita for Target-purchased from Amazon.com

Nobody Puts Meagan in the Corner

Okay, I put myself in the little corner area of the bedroom to take my outfit photos. This little area is slowly getting filled with decor, which I'm sure will have more Cure items along with other nonsense. I'll never grow out of having my Cure posters on the wall, I even I have two vintage Robert Smith posters (Christmas gifts from my dear Derek) that are waiting to be framed. I also have some cute little drawings that Derek drew to be framed and hung, so I'm excited to see how my little back drop evolves. Hehe!

As I was going through my files I came across some things from long ago including; my old drivers license from when I turned 21, my senior year high school i.d, and some various writings that have long since been forgotten. It's amazing how much I have changed and yet still have stayed the same, in fact a few things that I wrote from 10+ years ago still resonates today, and I now understand those thoughts and feeling so much more clearly. I think it put an extra little pep in my step today and a big smile on my face.

Of course Coffin Kitsch is mostly a fashion blog with my little quips and ramblings about this and that, but I will leave you with one of the last things I wrote in a notebook all those years ago.

"Love is the instinct to unite, and the act of uniting"

I think that's really beautiful.

What I wore:
-sheer button-up top, Forever 21
-black and white slit skirt, Hot Topic
-stitch leggings, Lip Service
-boots, Doc Martens (ebay)
-multi-cross necklace, Forever 21

Shoes! OMG! : Finally by Nine West

In my never ending quest to find shoes to feature for Shoes! OMG! Thursday, I seem to find shoes and/or boots that I want to call my own....especially when the price is right. The Finally boots by Nine West  get a big ol' wolf whistle from me, I love the boots shape and the shiny silver buckles. The price tag is a lovely $54.99, so snatch them up if they are calling your name, or my name or whatever. *Wink*

"Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me"

I snapped these photos before work on Friday. I'm standing in front of my vanity and all the chaos surrounding it, please pardon my mess as I have a lot of things to hang up. So. many. things.

Please note red mug, the most important part of the beauty routine is coffee.

The dress was a thrift store buy for $3 and I couldn't resist the lip print even though I'm not very partial to pink. Though it's strapless, I wore a regular bra and a shrug to cover up the straps, I actually think the bra straps didn't look too odd. I'm still on the fence about the dress, I had to keep pulling it up while at work and it's so darn short! Perhaps this dress needs to be wore over leggings and with a button front cardigan, I won't give up on the dress just yet as I see the potential.

I haven't been too lively over here, my allergies/sinuses are kicking me in the bum. In fact, a lot of people around these parts have been suffering and it's a real bummer. My eyes are so swollen and itchy that I'm not even going to attempt to wear any eyeliner or excessive makeup for that matter. Blah! Usually I can function pretty normally when my allergies hit hard, but I'm feeling a little defeated. Meh!

Kitsch Picks : Jackets

I have to admit Autumn is in the air with my favorite fall scent Witch's Brew filling our apartment. Though the weather is still saying Summer, retails are rolling out their Fall fashions along with one of my weaknesses; jackets, coats and blazers. I need another one of these like I hole-in-the-head, but it's fun to look. *Wink*
