Kitsch Picks : The Spangled Maker

(click on bold text to link you to products)

Let's all take a moment to 'ohhhh and ahhhhh' over The Spangled Maker's designs. Kitschy vintage illustrations you can wear?! Yes, please! I've got my eye on the Victorian Bat Girl Brooch and am already styling her into outfits as I type this. Hehe!

Which one is your favorite?

Little Pineapples

I didn't get a chance to wear this eShakti pineapple sleeveless shirt dress last season, so this was yesterday's work outfit. I paired the dress with a thrifted short sleeve cardigan, slim belt and vintage wooden earrings and bangles, along with my Y.R.U crossbone loafers.

It felt really weird being so exposed! I did get cold during the middle of the day, but lucky we have a lot of clothes to choose from at work. Let's just say I added another black cardigan to the collection. Hehe! I did try to embrace the 60 degree weather, but a chill is still in the air and I'm still going to wear stockings and/or tights until it's unbearable.

A sense a theme of eShakti shirt dresses for the week.....

.......but that's okay, because PINEAPPLES!

Have a great Friday everyone and thank you for the well wishes from my previous blog.  Luckily I don't stay bummed out too long. I'm back to my goofy self. *Wink Wink*

"Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me"

I snapped these photos before work on Friday. I'm standing in front of my vanity and all the chaos surrounding it, please pardon my mess as I have a lot of things to hang up. So. many. things.

Please note red mug, the most important part of the beauty routine is coffee.

The dress was a thrift store buy for $3 and I couldn't resist the lip print even though I'm not very partial to pink. Though it's strapless, I wore a regular bra and a shrug to cover up the straps, I actually think the bra straps didn't look too odd. I'm still on the fence about the dress, I had to keep pulling it up while at work and it's so darn short! Perhaps this dress needs to be wore over leggings and with a button front cardigan, I won't give up on the dress just yet as I see the potential.

I haven't been too lively over here, my allergies/sinuses are kicking me in the bum. In fact, a lot of people around these parts have been suffering and it's a real bummer. My eyes are so swollen and itchy that I'm not even going to attempt to wear any eyeliner or excessive makeup for that matter. Blah! Usually I can function pretty normally when my allergies hit hard, but I'm feeling a little defeated. Meh!

Thank you for reading!

All The Bats Are Grey

Well, it's really 'all the CATS are grey' as in the title of a Cure song off 'Faith'. But I digress, whether you spell it grey or gray, the theme for Sophistique Noir's monthly post is calling all the goths (or dark clad creatures-of-the-night) to show us your grey!

Since I already had my hair done up (in my previous outfit blog) which was still rockin' the height even after sleeping on it, so I put on one of my favorite dresses that happens to be grey AND covered in bats. Oh yes, I'm a wee bit batty. I am a sucker for anything kitschy and fun, especially a cotton, flirty and easy to wear dress. Even though I choose to wear a 'loud' print, I like to tone down everything else with solid black and add some details here and there, like with the buckles on my boots to break up the leg line and give some visual interest. The dress becomes the focus and everything else is a compliment, as when it comes to alternative styling I truly believe that you should see YOU in the clothing, not just the clothing.

I know. I know. It's that same white wall again. Unfortunately our apartment is small and pretty busy with all our home decor, that my outfits get lost when I pose anywhere but in front of this wall in my bedroom. I'm using natural lighting which is my favorite as I hate when I have to use the dreaded flash. Thanks for bearing with me while I slowly improve and some day I'll steal the better camera away from my husband. Hehe!

I wanted to show the sweet heart strapless bust on the dress, as this is a very flattering neckline for any women, yet I'm just not very comfortable in strapless. It could be the feeling of falling out (I don't have much to 'hold' a strapless dress up) or just feeling very exposed, that's why I wear a little sweater or load up on jewelry to give me a false sense of being covered up. I'm actually a pretty modest dresser, I've always been, perhaps that's why I go crazy with my hair. *Wink* I also wanted to show that I'm wearing an elastic waist belt as it's hiding the wide black band of the dress, as I wanted to emphasize my waist being that the dress is a smidge too big on me.

What I'm wearing:
Bat Attack Dress: Sourpuss Clothing
Lace back sweater: Kohl's
Leggings: Target
Buckle booties: amazon.com ($12!)
Elastic waist belt: Forever 21
Chain necklace: ????
Rhinestone cross earrings: Forever 21
Spike and pyramid stud bracelets: newest purchase from Forever 21

What are your tips and tricks for making something you wear more 'in' your comfort zone?

Thanks for reading!

Shoes! OMG! : Apple Juice Flats by Sugar

Striped flats! These darling Apple Juice flats by Sugar stole my stripey lovin' heart. Who said wearing a pair of little flats has to just be comfy, they can also be adorable! I can see these stripey little numbers paired with a cute black lacy skirt, or paired with a comfy pair of jeans for running around to do errands. I also love the buckle detail which adds a little 'bad ass' to an otherwise cutesy shoe. The Apple Juice flats come in green/black, pink/black, and grey/black, yay!!!
