Ribcage Sweater

Julie Ann at work asked me how many rib cage sweaters I owned and I replied with laugh, "three". This Iron Fist rib cage sweater was picked up on a super after Christmas sale and I really loved the Peter Pan collar. It's a pull over sweater, which I generally don't gravitate towards, but it's Winter and being warm was more on my mind.

I'm wearing; rib cage sweater (Iron Fist), pleated skirt (vintage, from Julie Ann), polka dot scarf (Sourpuss Clothing), purple velvet boots (6pm.com), earrings (vintage), and coffin brooch (Charcoal Designs).

As I'm typing this, we are waiting to have a plumbing service come to the house and *hopefully* be able to give us some good news. We have been dealing with a sewer line issues since last year and we finally know that part of the pipe is collapsed. We are hoping they can help us to repair it in a 'non-digging up everything' sort of way. We've both been stressed out as we have other house issues to add to the list, BUT I am grateful for a roof over my head (even though there is a leak, ha!) and our boiler is still working. This Old Goth Haus is 129 years old, so we knew it wasn't going to be an easy road of home ownership.....

Luckily we are a great team and when there is goal in mind, we work towards that goal until the end.

"May I Please Borrow Your Big Bat Necklace"

That was the exact question I texted Derek last night, "May I please borrow your big bat necklace". I went out by myself last night to a local goth club night and met up with my best friend. Derek didn't feel like going out after a long day at work, so I ventured out on my own borrowing Derek's Alchemy Gothic bat necklace (a gift from me) which was the only thing I could think of wearing amongst the dense ruffles of my shirt.

I like big bats and I can not lie....

The high collar ruffled shirt was a gift from Derek several years ago, back when Lip Service was making some great pieces, like this white ruffled shirt Derek also gifted me. The black ruffled shirt that I'm wearing was in the 'club clothes' section of my closet (which is teeny tiny now) and I realized it need to be mixed into my other button-up blouses and get incorporated into more outfits. My life of haunting the club every week has changed to haunting my own home, but I want to wear my beautiful things all the time and make good use out of them.

It was nice to blow off some steam as we've been dealing with a lot of house stresses, planning, problem solving and worrying. In my world, things happen in 3's and it's sorta getting out of hand. Hahaha! Staying positive is what I am focused on....

I'm wearing a black ruffled blouse (old, Lip Service), black trousers (Forever 21), DIY jacket (old, Switchblade Stiletto), pointy buckle boots (Nasty Gal, Shoe Cult brand?), bat necklace (Alchemy Gothic via ebay), ankh earrings (etsy), and black felt hat (old, Forever 21). Lipstick color is Ravishin' Raisin by Wet n' Wild.

You will see these pins in up coming blog posts, I'm a very happy gal.

Lana Leopard Print Dress by Lindy Bop

I ordered the Lana Leopard Print Dress from Lindy Bop last June via Amazon. I have always been weary of buying clothing off Amazon, but figured since Lindy Bop was a reputable retro clothing brand, I would be okay. Well, other than ordering the wrong size (due to my own fault and resulting in having to get it altered), I am pretty happy with the quality and style of the dress.

I had been on the hunt for a leopard print dress to wear to work and this one ticked off all the right boxes. I liked the leopard pattern, it had a neckline and straps that I liked (I can wear a regular bra!), fuller A-line skirt and I liked that style is versatile so I can layer it many different ways.

A lot of people segregate 40s/50s/60s retro style (or new vintage) fashion into only being for "rockabilly" or "pinup" types, which is fine and dandy, but in truth they are classic silhouette's that are classic for a reason. I could write a whole blog just about how styling garments to fit your taste regardless of what umbrella term it falls into a genre sense, but no one needs that. In other words, wear what makes you happy and what you feel flatters you.

Break all the rules! *Wink*

I'm wearing a the Lana Leopard Print Dress (Lindy Bop), cowl neck sweater (H&M), white skull earrings and necklace (Kreepsville 666), Shrunken Head brooch (Charcoal Designs), vinyl belt (from Julie Ann) and brogue style boots (Paxton byDirty Laundry)

Witch Cream

Here is one of our finds on our antiquing adventure on Monday. It's Witch Cream! Hahaha!
The bottle reads, "A delightful application for Chaps, Sunburn, Eczema and Wrinkles. SOFTENING, HEALING, BEAUTIFYING. It is quickly absorbed and at once cleanses, softens and nourishes the skin and keeps it fresh and healthy. There is nothing better to preserve and improve the complexion. Witch Cream is neither sticky nor greasy and contains no poison or mineral ingredient."

Price 25 cents
C.H. & J. Price
Apothecaries
Salem Mass.

Well, thank goodness it doesn't have any poison in it!!! What do you think, would you use something called witch cream? I would, most definitely. Muahahaha!!!

In other thrifty news, the estate sale Derek and I went to on Saturday was a bust. It was exactly what I expected, full of rude people. The house was neat to go through and I loved the dark green bathroom fixtures and black and gold flocked wallpaper, though not ideal for a bathroom, still really cool looking.

The Munsters and Stripes

Hey guys! Happy Saturday, what's shakin? Nothing too interesting to report, just looking forward to starting off the day by heading to an estate sale to see if there are any treasures to be hold. I find that estate sale can either be a heaven send or a pain in the royal ass, due to rude people and small spaces....they don't mix.

I'm wearing a ponte knit blazer (Target), Munsters t-shirt (old, Cats Like Us), cross belt (old, Forever 21), striped skater skirt (H&M), tombstone necklace (borrowed from Derek), boots (Dr. Martens)

What are you up to today?

(click on bold text to link to products)

Vampire Jewelry by Wolfgang Tobias caught my eye, especially the thorn jewelry. If I could describe jewelry as 'romantic', then these pieces above would be a good example. Check out the shop and maybe you'll find something you love.

Dapper and Swag

I'm a huge fan of wearing necklaces under my collared shirts, so I got to thinking and went on a search for collar clips. I came across Dapper and Swag on etsy and was elated. So many amazing pieces to choose from, but I narrowed it down to the Silver Skull and Crossbones Collar Chain. I also have a few other goodies on my radar which I think would add some depth to the pieces in my closet.

Since I've been going through my closet in project 'wear everything', I realized that I needed to add some fun pieces into the mix and my most favorite way to do so is with accessories.

I also wanted to say "Happy Valentine's Day!" I will be hanging out with Derek and Danielle sharing a pizza, watching TV and hiding inside from the sub-zero temperatures.

Cheers!

Kitsch Picks : FiMachine

FiMachine makes amazing faux leather cosmetic bags, messenger bags, hips belts, etc. inspired by goth, dark and fantasy.

*Side note about Kitsch Picks: I stopped doing Kitsch Picks as I didn't want to create "want", I just like to share some neat independent designers or items of interest. I am bringing back Kitsch Picks back as I like to help promote these people and possibly hip you to something that you will love.

Fuzzy Leopard Sweater

A trip to Target a few weeks ago had me walking out with a new long sleeve t-shirt (for layering!) and this fuzzy gold/black leopard cardigan for under $9. I always have my eye out for patterned cardigans to pair with my (what has become) staple casual outfit has morphed into. I still love my leggings and skater dress combo, but I am enjoying wearing pants and have a new pair coming my way via mail.

I'm filling in the gaps in my wardrobe and it feels good to make choices that I know I will use and love. Of course, I still want to obtain those fun fashion pieces too. *Wink*

It was Derek's birthday Tuesday, so I am wearing a necklace he made for me along with a black button up shirt (thrift), black high waist pants (old, Target) with my new fuzzy cardigan sweater.

The necklace is a bone cross in resin that Derek hand molded and it's one of my favorite pieces. Derek is a man of many talents, I am a lucky gal....and sentiment. But don't tell. Shhhhhhhh!

Featuring Brocade Bats

I stumbled down the etsy window shopping hole and discovered the darling little shop, Brocade Bats. I ordered two pieces, the wooden tile Eye of Horus necklace (sold out) and the spider webs necklace. Both pieces were a steal and I knew would be worn again and again.

Even though the wooden tile Eye of Horus necklace is on a longer chain, I ordered the necklace with the intent to wear it shorter to place under collar shirts. It also never crossed my mind to wear these two pieces together, but heck, why not?! I'm a big fan of layering necklaces, especially ones as versatile as these two.

*Items purchased by me and this post is not sponsored

I love finding little treasures on etsy, do you have any favorite etsy shops?

Back From Florida

Moai's greeting you at Grind

We decided a sort of 'last minute' trip to visit my parents in Florida...and by last minute in my world means we only planned a month in advance. I mentioned my Father is having some health problems, meaning he's been diagnosed with cancer. He has already had some procedures done and is in the best hands in terms of my Mother and his team of doctors, but I'm still scared and with being so far away it makes my fears even worse. Though it's the best case scenario with catching everything early, there is a long road of treatments ahead.

We left very early last Monday morning and arrived in Daytona Beach to the smiling faces and embrace of my parents. After stripping off layers of clothing and freshening up a bit, we had lunch at the Grind Gastropub &Kona Bar in Ormond Beach. We visited the restaurant when it was called Caffeine Wine Bar & Bistro and I'm soooooo glad they changed ownership, it's much more amazing now!

This is the only time my hair looked descent, I forgot about the humidity! LOL! That's why I brought hair scarves!

Mom and Dad coordinating without even knowing it!

Grind's food was amazing, the Tiki drinks were sort 'eh', but the decor made up for it!

Amongst other things we did during the week, we visited the Silver Springs state park and went on the glass bottoms boats. I'm a nerd for anything that has some history and the glass bottoms boats have been running for 100 years!

The spring's were beautiful and the boat ride was very relaxing. I was glad my Father was feeling up to the activities and enjoyed the visit.

It was a gorgeous day and perfect for making memories <3

I miss my parents already, but I'm happy to be home.

Throwback Thursday : Club Edition

Danielle and I at the (now defunct) Continental in very early 2000's. That bondage dress I'm wearing was amazing and I wish I had held onto it!

Winter Bats

This day was one of those days that I had a dress planned, it didn't work out (which is now in the donation pile), so I had to come up with plan b. Since I was all bundled up in my under layers, I grabbed this bat skirt that has been featured here and here.

The wonderful thing about my project 'wear everything', is that I'm weeding out pieces that just don't work for me and in return I am able to grab pieces that do work. This is really helpful when outfit plans fail, especially when dressing for work.

I'm wearing a open front cardigan (H&M) with a long sleeve t-shirt (Target?), bat skirt (Sourpuss Clothing), fleece lined leggings, tall boots (Madden Girl) with vintage bow belt (from Julie Ann).

I'm also wearing some wool socks I got on sale, as all Winter stuff is being clearance out for Spring. Blargh! I know it's the one-season-ahead cycle of fashion, but I will never get used to it. Luckily thrift stores don't revolve around seasons too much.
