It's in the Details

I realize in my outfit posts I don't often  focus the photography on my accessories as I could dedicate a whole blog just to my love of jewelry, hair accessories, handbags and shoes. I just can't get enough! The photograph above is most of my necklaces, some bracelets and earrings, I try to keep everything organized... key word is try. I often buy jewelry from clearance racks, etsy, antique and thrift shops. I buy things that tickle my fancy, but I really like silver jewelry as I like the way it stands out against black outfits.

Just a few examples of some of my pieces.

I like to 'frankenstein' things together, essentially I buy pendants and/or chains an add or subtract things to make them my own. My little pliers get a good workout in our house, old rosaries make for good necklaces, I take the cross off, shorten the beads and add a new pendant (like the Sisters of Mercy pictured).

I need a better system for earrings.

Accessories were always something I could afford when I was really struggling financially, it was my way of freshening up an outfit. When I'm stumped about what to wear, I put on a black dress and fancy it up with some accessories, fun stockings and a handbag = I'm feelin' pretty good. Let's not even get started on shoes, I need to be stopped, "Hello, my name is Meagan and I can't stop looking at shoes".

Accessories make my world go round, how do you like to accessorize?

Thank you for reading!
XOXO-Meagan Kyla

  1. Nice collection Meagan. :)
I LOVE accessoires as well, they really do complete outfits.

For my earrings, I have a holder like this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Earrings-48-Hole-Display-Rack-Metal-Stand-Holder-/321060400121?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4ac0b0ebf9

Looks pretty on my shelf and they don't get caught as when keeping them just in boxes. ;)

  2. I've been planning recently to make the same type of post, because of the same reason as you - my accesories don't get the love they deserve on outfit photos.
Your collection is of my favourite type, nearly all silver and black. The pendant with cross cabochon on rosary chain especially caught my attention - it looks very antique, is it? I LOVE rosary chains; it's too bad rosaries are so hard to get. I would gladly redo mine into something more interesting, but it has pearl white beads and it's not really my thing.
Also, throwing tons and tons of various necklaces, bracelets and rings on against really simple black outfit became my favourite style of dressing in summer, when I just can't layer clothes and instead I choose accesories in order to not look dull.

    1. My husband made the pendant you are asking about :) He used acrylic, animal bones for the cross, and he bought the pendant back ground at a craft store (Michael's. Rosary chain can be bought online, then you just need to add the closures. I've searched for it on etsy under the supply section. =D
I totally agree about piling on the jewelry in summer time, it adds some 'umph' to my summer dresses. Can I just wear all my necklaces all at once!? Hahahhaa!!!

  3. Accessories are my favourite part of any outfit! Wear the same outfit with different statement accessories or shoes and it's almost like you have a whole new outfit! I agree with the affordability thing, when I was a student I did not have much of a clothing budget to speak of. However, one can easily find alternative looking accessories that are inexpensive.

    1. Exactly! I do that all the time, same black dress-mix and match with accessories/shoes/handbags.

  4. What a great collection. I've had jewellery pliers and adapted things for years, it's also good to fix broken things! I might make my own jewellery someday if I can find some really unique pieces to work with.

  5. Well if you asked me, I think the way you have your jewelry organized is actually pretty nice-- it looks like a display at an antique store... just waiting to be dug through!

I love making jewelry-- it's my second favorite hobby! Back in Canada I have bottles and boxes of beads and bobbits to create. I've always felt that a good outfit should have good accessories. I had to bring only my favorite pieces when I moved down, which was really hard!

You make lovely pieces, you are a very talented woman!

  6. I love accesories, I think I never have enought! XD

I like romantic/victorian inspiration, like cameos and this kind of stuff, but with a macabre point (like skeleton cameos). I also do myself some accesories, like steampunk pendants, some earings and a few little things. Is great wearing something do it by yourself :).

    1. That's so awesome!
I love cameos, I have a few I need to get chains for or turn into brooches. I even have a skeletal woman cameo tattoo!
I also really enjoy wearing things I put together, even if they are pieced together!

  7. Your collection is majestic! I'd love to have one like yours.
I think you organized it pretty well, by the way. The second necklace in the second picture is awesome... a necklace like that can do wonders for an outfit!

    1. Thank you! The necklace you speak of is a new addition and I got it at an antique mall. It looked horribly out of place, so I gave it a good home! ;)
