Merry Samhain and Happy Halloween!

Wishing you all merriment on one of my favorite days of the year!

My day will be filled with finishing up our costumes, spending the day with Derek and going to a few parties. I'm going to try and behave and not eat too much candy! Hehe!

Happy Halloween! XOXO-Meagan Kyla

The Last Beat of My Heart : Alien Sex Fiend

Alien Sex Fiend are one of the classic Batcave era bands that have a goth rock/deathrock sound. I was first introduced to the band on a Gothic Rock box set and fell in love....and I also love Mr. Fiend. XOXO!

Bats and a Peter Pan Collar

I've used a variation of this title before, but I'm glad to have two things I love in my closet; peter pan collars and bats! These items aren't 'new', but I'm diggin' the combination. Again, this is one challenge of being a 'fashion blogger', not having an unlimited budget to share new and exciting outfits all the time. I do love to challenge myself and use the resources I already have in order to mix-n-match and use my brain noodle to share with all of you!

I try to not let my spending get out of hand as I like to keep things under control, just like I talk about in this video blog. Queen of the dorks on camera! *Raises hand*

shoe cam!

Derek and I are saving for the future, so I have specific goals in my head that need to take center stage rather than buying shoes online and going out to all the shows. So many things were going on this weekend, but we just choose one and hung out at home making cocktails and watching movies. Gotta do, what ya gotta do. *Wink*

Bride of Frankenstein and a Shirt Dress

+shirt dress : eShakti +leggings: Lip Service
+boots: Target +hair bone: Kreepsville 666

I seem to gravitate towards styling this shirt dress with leggings and boots, like I did with this look, as I guess it's just comfy that way!

shoe cam!

My hair is still purple, the shades will change as it's semi-permanent color and will fade with washing. I like the more pale lavender color, yet I need to grab some more purple to mix into lavender for to make it brighter.

I've been rockin' my first Dungaree Dolly bag this Halloween season. It's an oldie (but a goodie!) featuring the Bride of Frankenstein on the tote bag. I can't recommend Dolly's bags enough, such great care and quality goes into the making of her bags!

Just checking to make sure all the treats and Ice Bats in my bag didn't get squished! Hehe!

The Last Beat of My Heart : The Cramps

The Cramps are iconic and I've had the pleasure of seeing them perform twice. One of my favorite bands that I admit need to get more airplay in our house. R.I.P Lux Interior.

Pumpkins and a New Tattoo!

Every year Derek always nudges me and says, "You should get a Halloween tattoo", since it is something he does every year AND he also does several days of Halloween tattooing. AKA-He does $31 Halloween tattoo's which can be picked from a flash sheet that he created. It's become a tradition! Well, here is my Illuminati-corn, it's all seeing! Hehehe! This photo was taken right after Derek was finished, so it's a little red and swollen.

We also carved pumpkins at the tattoo shop. It was fun to hang out, eat snacks and carve my cross-kin. Also, my pumpkin in on one of the chairs that came from a church, I thought it was fitting. *Wink*

"Whoa, Sandworms. You hate 'em right?"

Derek's Beetlejuice themed pumpkin, he also carved several others, since he's a loon about carving pumpkins. I'm sure I'll be finding pumpkin seeds in his pockets, hahaha!

Have you been doing anything fun this Halloween season?

Kitsch Picks : Midnite Bat by Stardust Confetti

Ohhhhh! I can't hide my excitement for this Midnite Bat earring and brooch set by Stardust Confetti. I really enjoy sparkly lucite jewelry and I love that Anabel made a bat set (she can make different colors!), which could be worn all year round. *Wink*

Don't forget to check out all the other sparkly goodness that Stardust Confetti has to offer!

I Hate You Flash!

Yep, I hate the flash.

The days are getting darker, Derek isn't always around to give me a hand and I moved the furniture around, so it's back to experimenting with places to take photos. I wasn't going to share these, but it's real life and there are hits and misses. Photos outside is always ideal, but not always realistic when time is an issue.

I'm just sharing my #1 frustration with doing outfit posts, but it's all for fun and I'm not going to stress.....too much. *Wink*

Late Summer?

I wish I was able to take photos outside, but it was so very windy! It's been very unseasonably warm and it has got me a little mixed up as to what to wear. I was actually too warm wearing the lace sleeved cardigan! I'm not ready for snow, but it's hard to sip on pumpkin spice tea when it's 78 degrees out.....then again I can drink hot beverages at any temperature.

I ordered this maxi dress seeing as I thought it was a bit more summery and would be packed away until next season, but it's proving to be nice choice on this windy warm day.

I'm not a big fan of racer backs, but the hemline won me over. I layered the dress with a tank top as the medium is rather generous in the bust/armpits, it would be a little ummm, revealing if I only wore the dress with a bra. I wish I would have sized down, but C'est la vie!

I'm happy with the dress, it's great for layering with leggings and flowy cardigans. I'm sure I'll experiment with layering sweaters and/or tops over the dress. I love a versatile piece!

How is the weather in your neck-of-the-woods?

The Last Beat of My Heart : The Sisters of Mercy

Though Mr. Eldritch doesn't want to be called a 'goth band' and denies it up and down, but The Sisters of Mercy are what I consider one of the most influential bands in the goth rock genre. A personal favorite and a band I often listen too while turning around in my lace dresses.

Kitsch Picks : Forward Back Vintage

Forward Back Vintage not only sells some rad vintage goodies, but they make these amazing reproduction atomic shelving! I'm a sucker for shelves, but that could be since we have some many decorative knick knacks. So. Much. Dusting.

This Week's Thrift Finds : Furniture

This week's theme was end tables. Since I haven't been doing a lot of thrift store shopping or antique shop hunting, I was surprised to find two end tables! I love home decor and decorating, I like to surround myself with treasures that I find from long forgotten eras or repurpose discarded diamonds-in-the-rough.. Derek and I like to call our home decor style, Mid Century Macabre. Decorating our humble abode makes me giddy, as silly as it may sound!

This end table was a $3.99 thrift find. A little scratched, but a solid piece. Derek added his Dead Mary statue to the table and I love it!

My friend Iris discovered this amoeba shaped little table this afternoon while we all went out for a day of antiquing. A steal at $17.00! Once again, it's a little rough around the edges, but nothing in our apartment is brand new and everything has A LOT of character a.k.a scratches, dents, and has been preciously loved. Hehehe!

I found this nun double head vase, but had to leave them due to price. Oh nuns, I love you!

Do you buy second hand furniture?

A Big Dress and Pointy Boots

+vintage dress: given to me by Julie Ann +boots: Demonia Brogue-06
+belt: Target +cross necklace: ebay +earrings: Julie Ann's Mom's earrings from the 80s

This is what I *would* have worn to my work's 5 year anniversary party, but the weather did not comply with me wearing a dress with such a large collar. Basically, I needed to wear a sweater since it was hailing out, a stark contrast from being in Florida last week!

I originally was going to wear my 'special occasion' cheetah print booties with this vintage 50s shirt dress, but ummm, the shoes broke. The leather bootie came off the sole and I proclaimed a few obscenities while inspecting the damage. The shoes are fixable and will be added to the pile that needs to go to the cobbler. It's not the end of the world, just frustrating.

It turned out that I liked wearing my pointy skull boots with the dress, sort of like a weirdo Stepford Wive ensemble. Hehehe!

Then again I'm not a robot.....or am I? *Wink*

The Last Beat of My Heart : Tears for Fears

Tears for Fears is one of my favorite 80s-era new wave bands. I grew up watching their music videos and still enjoy their music as much as when I was a wee thing.

Vacation Slides : Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Derek and I have been planning our anniversary trip since back in June when we booked our hotel and plane tickets. We decided on Fort Lauderdale for the sun, retro kitsch and because of the Mai Kai, which is a Tiki mecca for us Tikipiles. I'm sure there is no surprise that Tiki was involved in our vacation plans, hehehe!

It was so hot and humid, which is no surprise as we're in Florida, but it was unseasonably warm even for the locals. We spent a lot of time walking, sweating, getting gawked at by other tourists and swimming in the ocean.

I had to take some obligatory, "hey we're at the beach!" photos. It was my first time swimming in the ocean and it was very relaxing and the waters were very warm. I understand why people flock to the beaches in Fort Lauderdale, yet I had my fill for the next few years. I'm not a beach bunny, but I do enjoy walking and hanging out on the beach in the evening.

I did get a new bathing suit for the trip, it's a 60s style leopard print one-piece. Sorry for the crappy mirror shots, but I was feeling sassy!

One other aspect to the trip that we really enjoyed was staying at the Sea Club Resort which was a hotel built in 1951 originally called the Jolly Roger, but has had massive renovations to modernize the hotel. I really wish the beautiful waterfall in the lobby was still working! We had a comfortable stay, though it's not a lush resort and had its quirks, we love that about staying at old places.

And then there was the Mai Kai.....

It was amazing. Absolutely amazing. Built in 1956, it's a treasure and I hope the people of Fort Lauderdale realize how amazing the Mai Kai is to have in their fair city.

That is JUST the drink menu! It was so massive and tasty!

That is a Mai Tai and the Jet Pilot. Just the first of many that night. Mmmmm mmmm!

Hanging out by the waterfall in the Molokai bar inside the Mai Kai. Derek's shot turned out to be a little artsy. I'm contemplating which side of the menu my husband is going to sample. Hahaha!!!

The Polynesian show during dinner was amazing, touring the gardens at the Mai Kai was a lot of fun and spending a fantastic evening with my favorite guy was magical.

I should have been more careful, I'm very flammable...and I'm just talking about my hair.

Goths on vacation!

A tipsy Derek presented me with this beautiful coffin-shaped gem ring by Mordauntes Gem Coffins. I was so surprised and happy, not just for the piece of lovely jewelry, but because I have a thoughtful and loving partner who I've had the pleasure to share my life, dreams and love with....le sigh.

Yep, I'm tearing up a bit. *Wink*

The trip was lovely, but I'm happy to be back home as it's time to get all Autumnal!
