A Touch of Pizza

Hello friends! Happy Thursday and Cinco de Mayo! Yesterday's work outfit was a simple one, lightweight sweater top, cotton skirt and Mary Janes. Simple, comfortable and work appropriate. Miss Frilly Frenchie commented on my last outfit blog about not looking 'over the top goth' for work and the dress code at my work being pretty cool, which it is! Since I work at a retro clothing store (Cats Like Us), my clothing choices do reflect the style of the store. I like retro fashion silhouette's, so I blend my kitschy goth style with the silhouette's I enjoy. In turn, a lot of the brands we carry (Sourpuss Clothing, Hell Bunny, Voodoo Vixen, etc.) are what I wear to work.

Wearing; checker top (Voodoo Vixen), button front skirt (eShakti), Mary Janes (vintage Dr. Martens), checker earrings (80s vintage from Julie Ann), enamel pizza pin (Sourpuss Clothing), ant bracelet (souvenir from Dali Museum).

I added the pizza pin as I wanted a 'touch of red' and the little pepperoni's were perfect! It's also just fun to add a touch of pizza to any ensemble. Mmmmmm, pizza! My brooch collection has been growing as it's an inexpensive (and fun!) way to add some fun and diversity to my outfits. We also carry a lot of brooches at work and it inspires people to purchase our brooches and gives them ideas on how to style them.

Red Leopard Dress

I believe this is another dress that has not yet been featured here, but one that has been in the work clothing rotation. I got the dress a size too big (d'oh!), but since it is a knit it makes a nice winter dress that I can (you guessed it!) layer.

I feel like I 'layer' is the word of the day like on Pee Wee's Playhouse, and we should all be running screaming whenever I write it. Hehehe!

I am wearing a black thermal under the red leopard dress (Jawbreaker Clothing), black leggings, black cameo sweater, paired with; polka dot scarf (Sourpuss Clothing), 80s earrings (thrift), atomic brooch (The Crave Yard), black vinyl belt and really beat up black boots that need to be replaced. 

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. We've been keeping a low profile and haunting the house as we have a trip planned in early February. We are going to visit my parents as my Father is having some health issues and we decided that the trip was a no brainer.

Tiki Tiki Tuesday!

I just realized I've never featured this Voodoo Vixen dress on the blog. I've had this dress since summer (which I got from work) and it's perfect to wear to an event like CanTiki Tuesday's at Cantina Loco. Mmmmmm, Tiki drinks and tacos!

I layered the Voodoo Vixen Hula Girl sundress with a t-shirt underneath and fleece leggings. I am also wearing a wool cardigan (thrifted) with my shrunken head brooch (Charcoal Designs), vintage gold/black earrings (antique mall), cluster of red hibiscus flowers (work) and vintage Dr. Marten mary janes (eBay).

Who says you can't wear tropical ensembles in winter? I like to think of it as escapism at it's finest. Muahahahaa!!!! 

I need to give a shout out to my tacky 80s dangle earring collection. I love you, I love that I find you for $1-$3 and you all help fuel my love of kitschy dress.

Alright, it's time to go drink out of a mug garnished with paper umbrellas and delicious fruit.

Pencil Skirt

I've been neglecting my pencil skirts in my closet, due to just not wanting to bother wearing such restrictive clothing to work. This combination came together while I was trying to pair a top with another pencil skirt (it just didn't work out) and I just decided to grab this creepy crawly critters top* with a black pencil skirt and black lace cardigan. I worn a slim belt to break up the print and accentuate my waist, paired with my studded pointed booties that I love oh-so-much.

I've been asked a few times this week as to, "what color is your hair?". Haha! My hair needs to be re-colored very badly, so hopefully that will get done today along with baking some cinnamon rolls and having a brunch with friends.

Cocktails, Anyone?

I can't deny my love for wine. Red wine, white wine, sweet wine, dry wine, I've tried them all! I also love a good cocktail, so naturally this cotton collared shirt dress lives in my closet.

The dress is sleeveless, so I added a long sleeve t-shirt under the dress along with my Tiki cardigan and black leggings, slouch socks and ankle boots. Voila! Now it's winterized! 

I'm back on a head scarf kick this week. I like to give my hair a break from flat iron, tease, spray, repeat.

I'm also excited to share that Sary at The Walrus Room named me as one of her favorite alternative bloggers. I am so flattered! She's a doll and I really enjoy her blog, so check her out!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Checkers!

Just a little dance since I was happy to not be wearing a sweater. The cheeriness of the Racing Checkers Top by Voodoo Vixen also makes me smile as I'm a big fan of ch-ch-ch-checker print, but didn't find the perfect piece for me until now! 

What's black, white and red haired? 

The black vortex aka my closet has been flipped, I'm ready for warmer weather and I've unloaded a lot of crap that was cluttering up my drawers. I'm feeling light and I'm excited to show off a little skin.

Happy 2014!

New cardigan I snatched up at work, by Voodoo Vixen

I rang in the New Year with some of my Tiki buds, which was low-key and relaxing. We played Cards Against Humanity, which was my first time playing the game and it is hilariously immature....just the way I like it! We nibbled on assorted finger foods and sipped tropical libations from Tiki mugs and then toasted with champagne during the count down to midnight.

A lot of people had a bad year and couldn't wait to push 2013 out the door, which is totally understandable when you've had a tough time. A year seems like an eternity during a negative time, but it often becomes a blink of an eye when you're feeling positive and happy. Life is often full of challenges, but it's the outcome and what we learn from the experience that makes us who we are and a part of our story.

During my 33 years on this planet, I have had many ups and downs, twists and turns, successes and fails, so my story probably isn't anything to write a book about, but through these years I've lived. I'm learning about myself every year and 2014 won't be any different. It's the little successes like sewing bloomers from a pattern and concurring my fear of them. (The pattern, not the bloomers. Hehe!) I'm learning to be more patient with life and slow down to enjoy what is happening now rather than what can happen in the future. 

So, dear readers, I get serious now and then, but I will always truly be a goof and a cheeseball (mmmmm, cheeseball) and will continue to do so into 2014. I wish you all the health and happiness! 

PS-I am starting a new year (and year three of blogging) with a few tweaks to the layout of the blog. I dig it and I hope you do as well!
