Happy New Year everyone! I hope you enjoyed your New Year's Eve how ever you celebrated. Derek and I got gussed up for the sake of feelin' fancy and went to a totally gluten free bakery that also has a small bistro. It was DELICIOUS and the family who owns the bakery were so welcoming and friendly. I can't wait to go back! Though we were a little overdressed, who cares, we enjoyed each others company and had a relaxing lunch.
Derek and I stayed in as this year was so crazy that I felt we needed a break. I love my friend's oh-so-much and it was odd not being with them, but the wonderful thing is that we all often get together and we celebrate soon! Yay!
As for what I wore for the day, I was inspired by all the historical dramas I've been watching. I started to re-watch Game of Thrones, have been watching the new episodes of Vikings (and started re-watching the early episodes) and I just finished watching Versailles on Netflix instant watch. I am going to start watching Medici: Masters of Florence as it looks pretty good.
I picked up velvet overdress from ebay for a song and wore it over a stretch lace dress that I thrifted eons ago. I am also wearing some pointy boots that I would shy away from wearing as I had an issue with the buckles, but with the aid of some pliers I had fixed the issue. I don't know why I didn't think of bending the buckle tines before, so they wouldn't catch on my clothing. The boots were an ebay find a few years ago and they are sorta ugly/cool. They have a Renaissance feel to them and I find that they work well under longer garments.
I also would like to point out the lovely bone necklace (longer one) by Purgatory Plaything that Derek gifted me for Yule. He also gave me two other necklaces by them which brings my collection up to five pieces. Very thankful for the wonderful additions to my bone jewelry collection as I like to accessorize....a lot. Hehe!
Cheers dear friends, to your health and happiness in the coming year!
Wow, I love that outfit, it defiantly look very medieval inspired. I've seen Versailles while it aired on BBC 2 and it was a fantastic show. I love the costumes and scenery. I've also fancied watching the Medici: Masters of Florence. I think that was advertised on the our cable but forgot to record it. I don't have Netflix as we have a Tvo box and record everything.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my ramblings. I hope you and Derek have a wonderful New Year. Sometimes we have to glam up from time to time even if it means going around the corner.
Thank you! I really liked Versailles a lot, but I have to admit I didn't 'really' get into it until the last few episodes. I can't wait for season 2!!!
