Yay! It's October 1st

Ohhh goodie goodie, it's October 1st! Halloween season is officially here! Tricks, treats and a whole month of not getting asked, "Is that a Halloween ____(fill in the blank)____ that you are wearing? Hehe! Not that I mind, but it sure will be nice.

This was Thursday's work outfit including the Bletchley dress that I had previous chatted about the subpar fit, yet I can't help but love the stripes! I really love shirt dress styles as I can layer a sweater over them or wear a long sleeve t-shirt under them for added warmth in the cold, cold months. Plus, I just find them comfortable, love collared anything and I really like buttons on my clothing. Hahaha!

Wearing; bletchley striped dress (Lindy Bop), cardigan (Hell Bunny---I own a lot of this brand=we sell it at my job), belt I always wear, boots (6pm.com), beaded necklace (thrift), earrings, (gift from Derek), hair bow (Cats Like Us), lipstick=Ravishin' Raisin by Wet n' Wild (ps-their matte lipsticks are my favorite drugstore lip stuff)

Yeah, you get two outfits in this post *I can feel your excitement jumping out from the screen*, because....why not?! Haha! Any who, the Lucy Fur Vintage Cat Sweater has been part of my 'Halloween Hunt' from work and though we are very low on sizes, we will be getting a restock in a few weeks. (PS-sign up for the newsletter to get info on the restock and you get a discount!) I can not say enough nice things about this sweater. It's soft, it's cozy, it's not too heavy and not too light, purrrrfect. Aaaaaand it has a vintage Halloween cat on it.

Side note: Did you ever get made fun of for wearing your pants too short? Well I will never do that since I like to wear ankle length pants to show off my socks, especially orange and black ones that compliment my Halloween cat sweater. So naaaaaah, to all the grade school bullies, they were just jealous of future you looking so stylish.

Wearing; Lucy Fur Vintage Cat Sweater (Sourpuss Clothing via Cats Like Us), collared shirt (thrifted), trousers (H&M), creepers (TUK), bone hoop earrings (Martha Rotten), hair bow (Cats Like Us), bat necklace (ebay?), jack o lantern bracelet (Walgreens)

Stay spooky my friends, until we meet again.

Muahahaha *cough cough*

Oops! Last week life got in the way and there was no Kitsch Picks, but this week I bring you Dulce Calaveritas and their darling etsy shop. These black acrylic earrings were just too awesome not to share, I love the designs and I love how they can add a little 'creepy kitsch' to any outfit.

Which ones are your favorite?

Thank you for reading, until next time!

What's Up With the Name Coffin Kitsch?

Logo by (c) Melanie Beitel

So, what is up with the name Coffin Kitsch? Well, when I started making pillbox hats, fascinators, hair bows, etc. I was having a hard time thinking of a name to call my humble little creations. I wanted something that played into the two sides of my personality and style, so I put 'coffin' for my love of the spooky ooky and creepy along with 'kitsch' as I am a cheese ball who adores tacky things of the past and present eras, thus Coffin Kitsch was born. I like infusing vintage styling with a dark twist, adding bats to fascinators, attaching spiders to little hair clips, and using skeleton hands as accents. My designs aren't cutting edge, but I like to put my own spin on hair accessories and I even make everything from scratch! All my pillbox hat frames and fascinators are made from sturdy millinery buckram from my own patterns, then covered with fabrics and then added details. It's a lot of work, but when I feel inspired and it comes out just right, it's all worth it! I love seeing gals wearing Coffin Kitsch designs!

I've been D.I.Y-ing a lot of my own clothing as of late, which is something I used to do in the past, but I'm feeling inspired to sorta 'upcycle' my own closet. I have been finding that I am wearing a lot more of my old clothing because I have sewed on a patch or revamped the style, my pocket book has been very happy. *Wink* I've also been more seriously thrifting and picking up some nice jackets and started offering my hand crafted D.I.Y patches in my etsy shop. You know, it keeps me busy and off the streets.

The patches aren't perfect, but that is sort of the point, I wanted them to look D.I.Y and have a hand made look to them. Well, they are literally hand made with the help of my machine and my crafting fingers. The jackets are laundered before hand, so it gives me a nice crisp palette to work with, nothing like a fresh, clean, and naked jacket! Check out my etsy page www.coffinkitsch.etsy.com.

My own vest I often wear to the club. I love all the pockets, no need to carry a purse!

Thanks for reading a little about some insight into me and some of my passions.
