Bletchley Black Stripe Shirt Dress by Lindy Bop

A few weeks ago I was feeling depressed about the whole house business and ordered this dress from Lindy Bop. I know, retail therapy can be dangerous, hehehe! Anywho, they were having a sale, so I ordered the Bletchley Black Stripe Shirt Dress that had been on my radar. A shirt dress that is black and white stripes?! Yes, please! I was excited for it's arrival, sort of....

To put it bluntly, the fit is bizarre. I followed the size chart, I made sure I looked at the material content, and read the description before I ordered=these are all things I make sure I review before handing over my payment information. The dress is too big in the waist, though according to their size chart it should be 1/2 inch smaller than my natural waist (I went with the size closest to my measurements as the first dress I ordered was WAY too big), but I figured the material had a slight stretch and I would be OK.

The cut of the dress is not made for taller gals, even though I'm only 5' 7" which is not that tall, yet it sits too high above my natural waist getting into the almost empire waist zone! I can't wear the belt that the dress came with because, I need more cinching power or it looks like a maturity dress. Okay, I know I sound a bit dramatic, but I demonstrated the dress's volume while I was at work and Julie Ann agreed.

SO WEIRD!

I will not be ordering from Lindy Bop again, due to their fit and their generic size charts. I understand this is a less expensive brand, but it's still disappointing! I really wanted this to be a favorite in the closet.

Have you ever ordered from Lindy Bop? If so, how was your experience?

Thank you for reading, until next time!

Side note: I measure clothing all the time for my job, so I understand size and size charts. I may do a 'how to measure yourself' blog in the future.

  2. Well this just proves you can style anything and still look fabulous. The fit is the most important thing... I've actually never heard of Lindy Bop.

    1. Thank you very much. I agree, fit is so important!

  3. I am glad you managed to make it look good with your styling but it is so annoying when things fit badly! I had an Alice Takes a Trip dress which has never been worn and is waiting to be recycled into something else as the bottom half is sizes smaller than the top!

  4. Well that's unfortunate... I think the dress looks very nice on you and I love the style. Black/white stripes are my jam. BTW, also digging your spiderweb tights. I had a pair back in the day.

  5. Fantastic dress! Too bad the fit isn't right. :( The short-waisted issue irks the heck out of me. Buckling a belt around my ribcage = nope.

  6. LAME! Clothing companies need to get their act together with their size charts; a LOT of people shop online these days so it is important!

  7. What a shame that fit is a bit wonky - you've styled it in such a way that one would not easily picked up on such had you not said as much. Interestingly, I've only ever ordered from Lindy Bop once (I picked up four dresses and they were the bulk of my Christmas gift from Tony that year) and not a single one fit me properly either, despite - much like yourself - having thoroughly checked the measurements for each and selected the sizes closest to my body's. Three were too big (especially in the shoulder and bust area) and one was wildly too small - like multiple inches too tiny. I would be willing to give Lindy Bop a shot again, but would probably only buy one piece at a time and maybe try a skirt or something that wouldn't have as many potential area that could end up being ill fitting.

  8. I totally understand what you mean about Lindy Bop. Their sizing is weird and I've heard from dress to dress it can be totally inconsistent on how weird it's going to fit. This dress does look lovely on you though! I never would have noticed any sizing issues looking at the pics! :) They aren't my favorite to buy but if I saw something I really liked and the price was cheap enough I'd probably give them another try.

  9. Ahh. Thank you for helping me make up my mind about this dress. I really liked it, even though I haven't heard good things about Lindy Bop and it looked a little wonky to me. You have confirmed my suspicions. Thank you for your honesty! It's so hard to find honest reviews on blogs!
