Casual Style with Polka Dot Flats

Every year I get myself a few cheapy pairs of flats, as I seem to completely destroy them. I do have my Aerosole leather flats and Mary Janes that are an investment and I always will recommend investing in good foot wear. Yet, sometimes I go over to Apparel Save on eBay and find good deals and not worry about being a summer beast in them. Seriously, I am very hard on shoes!

I had been looking for little black and white polka dot flats to add a little 'something' to my relatively basic summer outfits. I am very pleased with the oxford-like design of the shoes (by Restricted) and for a price tag of .99 cents with $8.99 shipping, worth it.

Layer, Layers, Layering

Oh Winter, thou art a cold Mistress! *Ahem* Apparently I've been so chilly I'm starting to proclaim in Shakespearean! So yes, layering. I have to thank long sleeve t-shirts, thermal undershirts and leggings for helping to chase the chill away. I also have to give a shout out to wool socks, even though I have a hard time finding them in stores and I have NO idea why. And here is a side rant....

Women's winter clothing. Unless I'm finding wool sweaters at the thrift store or wearing vintage, nothing seems to be made in materials that are the least bit warm!? I was searching for some warm sweaters (i.e. not "fine knit") a few months ago and came up with NADA. Nothing. Zip. Zero. I had to settle for a waterfall cardigan that was somewhat warm......... *grumblebats* I'm just going to wear a blanket with a bunch of safety pins.

I'm wearing the Skeleton Dress over a long sleeve t-shirt and leggings, paired with my cowl neck buckle sweater, spider pendant that Derek sculpted for me and Dr. Marten boots.

I love the pixie hem on the bottom of the dress!

I also would like to mention the lipstick I'm wearing is the NARS velvet matte lip pencil in Cruella which I received from Sephora (free gift!) for my birthday. I really love the color, yet I'm starting to realize matte lipsticks may not be for me as they are very drying and I hate having dry lips. I do use a lip primer and dap a little lip balm on throughout the day, so matte may only be a type of lipstick I may wear from time to time. But, the color and product=awesome!

Do you have any tips or advice for wearing matte lipsticks?

Pumpkin Scones and Windy Days

I made pumpkin spice scones on Tuesday morning, from a box mix, but they were still delicious! Derek and I were wandering about Home Goods and I spotted the mix while I was shopping the fancy food sections. I have to admit I'm yearning for Halloween items and the Autumn, but I know that Old Man Winter will soon follow.....so I need to be patient.

Tuesday's weather was quite odd. I love a nice cloudy day, but the wind and threat of rain lingered around all day long. I had a lot of tasks to complete around the house, which included painting screened frames that Derek made for 'The Hut'. It will be nice to have them up when we open up the garage door to help keep the bugs out. 

I spent some time in my sewing room (where I also take indoor photos), contemplating which color I was going to paint the walls. I want to get the sewing area organized, but first I need to paint as there is no point of putting anything on the walls just to take them down to paint. Decisions....decisions....

This outfit was nice and flowy for a cooler, yet humid day.

Oh, The Humidity!

The humidity has been terrible, so I'm not going to fight it with taking a flat iron to my hair. My hair has a mind of it's own and the natural wave has taken over....and I'm been bobby pinning my bangs to the side since I want to grow them longer. Patience. Patience. Mehhhh.

Anyways, I've been trying to write about this dress since I got it months ago. I bought the Skeleton Dress from hottopic.com and I LOVE it. It's is soft, flowy and easy to throw on for a day of errands. I have to admit I was not expecting much when I ordered the dress, but now I have to stop myself from wearing it everyday! I ordered a medium seeing as Hot Topic is a junior's clothing store, but I could have sized down to a small as the material has a lot of 'give'. It's been great going through the wash and the hemline is finished, so no fraying! 

The long cardigan I'm wearing (which is also from Hot Topic, a few years ago) is made of terrible cheap lace, which is full of tiny elastic "hairs" poking out of the sleeves. I still wear it, as I love the idea of a flowy long line cardigan layered over dresses. 

Ya win some, ya lose some.

Casual Look Of The Day : Stitches

I'm wearing my newest addition to my growing collection of patterned leggings. The Stitch Leggings were purchased from hottopic.com, that's right, HOT TOPIC! Before you blast and condemn me for buying things from this store that seems to drive controversy amongst the goths, punks, etc., I don't care. I shop wherever I like and purchase things that suit my style and taste, besides these are just pretty sweet leggings! At a $22.50 price tag, I was pretty pleased with the price and I like the fit and quality. Though the website does not label the leggings, I was surprised when I saw a Lip Service tag on the inside of the leggings!

I purchased a size medium in the leggings, and I believe they run pretty true to size according to their size chart. I paired the leggings with an over size button-up top to cover my bum, as we all should know that leggings are not a replacement for pants....cover your ass ladies!

Wednesday Link Round-Up : Playing Catch Up

Amazing truck we saw at the Dixieland Flea Market

Phew! I've been on a small vacation with friends for the past week and I'm back home. We traveled from Buffalo, NY to Michigan state to visit my friend's family, go clubbing, and my husband worked a little while we were there. Despite having a blast, it's good to be home!

We did some shopping while we were in Michigan and I got to take a look at a few things at Hot Topic. Whether you love or hate the store (in my mind) it serves a purpose for satisfying my, "I want something NOW", retail therapy. Here are a few items that caught my eye.....

+They are calling the goths back with these dangling cross earrings. The more crosses the better!

+Little spiders on stockings! These are a great way to infuse some spooky spiders into an outfit without screaming, "HALLOWEEN".

+This studded accent belt is only $3.99!

+I saw these hair bows in black at the store, nicely made and super duper cute!

Alright darlings, I'm sure you're all scowling at me because I linked you to the dreaded HOT TOPIC OF DOOOOOOOM, but Hot Topic will never be what it was years ago. The store serves a purpose as it still has some spooky undertones and when they have a sale you can get things for dirt cheap. I treat the store just like any other trendy juniors clothing store, if it's not your clothing style=check out the accessories, if you don't fit into anything=shop for stockings, hair doo-dad's, or lipstick. The moral of this all is, don't rule out any store as you never know. I shop everywhere to find deals and even though I prefer to support the 'little guy', those little cheapie's make my wardrobe diverse and give me some DIY projects to work on.

PS-I see that this blog is all black, I'm keeping that way as it's spookier. Haha! *Wink*
