This month's theme for Sophistique Noir is Maxi Skirts and I don't own too many long skirts any more, but this Lip Service skirt does the trick!
I paired the black twill skirt with another Lip Service item, the ruffled long sleeve top from their Blacklist collection. I love the ruffled blouse, it's cotton and versatile, which is reminding me that I need to wear this top more often! My black and white striped jacket is one of my most favorite pieces, it was a lucky find at Forever 21 3-4 years ago, Derek is very jealous of this striped wonder.
I wanted to break up all the black with an elastic belt to draw in my waist and add some visual interest. I love those ruffles!
The skirt is nice that it zips down into a trump style, but it came with this horrible lace insert that I cut out, I thought the skirt was too casual with the twill and the lace made it look tacky. The strap is also a weird detail sitting right under my bum, but I liked it so I decided not to snip it off. Oh fussy nonsense details, you annoy me. *Wink* I don't quite understand why alternative clothing comes with these extra bells and whistles that (in my opinion) tend to make the garment look cheap. Good thing I have really sharp scissors!
Thanks for reading!!!

I love their Blacklist line. I'm glad you had at least one long skirt to feature today! :) That jacket is so awesome, too. I'm not too into stripes unless they are done *just right* which that jacket definitely is!
ReplyDeleteThank you!I really like the stripe width and the structure of the jacket for a perfect combo!
DeleteLovely outfit! :) It is very well put together and the belt certainly adds visual interest to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of belts, I think it adds more curve to my figure since I am 'pear shaped'.
DeleteI can understand that the lace insert might have look unneccesary and unpractical. The skirt is very nice and it reminds me of a maxiskirt I have in my closet that I weigh to much to be able to wear. I need to loose weight.
ReplyDeleteYou look great the way you are, but if the skirt is a healthy motivator, then good luck! <3
DeleteYou look divine in that jacket! Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely! I was not lucky enough to find that jacket in my size - I love the patch you added!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I love putting bats on things, haha!
DeleteI agree with you about unnecessary details on clothing, but that actually looks pretty cute on the backside! Good thing you didn't snip it off!! :o)
ReplyDeleteBackside, wooowooo!!! Hahaha! Thank you!
DeleteI'm jealous of this jacket too! A jacket like this has been on my wishlist for ages:D
ReplyDeleteI'll keep my eyes peeled for stripey jacket goodness ;)
DeleteSuch a cute jacket, nice job on the customization. I can't believe you found that at Forever 21!
ReplyDeleteThat store is so odd, I do find some gems from time-to-time!
