Outfit of the Day : Slouch Socks, Chococat's and Cowboy Boots

The Chococat bow blouse was another piece I picked up at the clothing swap from a few months ago and though it's not a normal color I would be attracted to, I thought, "It's cute, why not!"

I tried on several shoe combos and nothing really excited me until I threw on some slouchy socks and my cowboy boots. One of the reasons why I pair slouch socks with shoes like my cowboy boots is because I have thin ankles and I like to "beef" them up to make wearing wide ankle style boot's more comfortable. Oh, and I love slouch socks. *Wink*

Overall I was very pleased with my outfit that I threw together and I was very comfortable for work. I don't think I would ever wear a blush-ish color (of the blouse) on it's own, but with the black bow framing my face and adding the black blazer made the color of the blouse 'pop' without being to overwhelming. Those little Chococat's just make me smile!

Shoes! OMG! : Indulge by Pleaser

I love stiletto boots, especially when they have buckles and are shiny! I'm really loving the way that the Indulge boots by Pleaser look, but my knees and ankles are screaming, "Nooooo". I have knee and ankle problems, so I shy away from heels, but that doesn't mean you have to deny your sweet self!

Club Nights : November's On The Wire

Saturday was On The Wire, the dance night that I help promote with my friend Danielle, so it was time to put on my dancing shoes, stay out way past my bed time and visit with some great friends.

I opted for a simple thrifted babydoll dress paired with these new cross stockings from Forever 21 (I'm excited about them) and my black blazer that I've been doing a little sewing work on.

I'm not quite done with the back of the blazer, but I did get to add the Trevor Brown "Little Sister" patch that I made from Derek's old t-shirt. I like Trevor Brown's art and I have a obsession with nuns, so it's a win-win in my book!

Other than recovering from the fun time this weekend, Derek and I are gearing up for the holiday season and we're on the edge of our seats with some other wonderful news. Derek is opening up his own tattoo shop with two friends! The building has been going through major renovations for quite some time and now we're waiting for inspections and last minute things. Poor Derek has been a little frazzled with not knowing exact dates, but good things come to those who wait! I'm so excited for them all!

Making plans! Making plans!

Have a great week!

Charles Phoenix!!!

Last night we went to see Charles Phoenix and I would deem him the 'King of Americana' and he loves kitsch...we all know how much I love kitsch. Teehee!

It's a rare treat to see Charles as he hails from Los Angeles and made his way to the East Coast to Buffalo, NY (specifically) to experience all the wonders our fair city has to offer. He dazzled us with his famous retro slideshow and included his slides from his visit to Buffalo. The slideshow re-inspired us to explore our hometown and made me appreciate our local culture that much more, which also includes all the local food. Mmmm, pierogies.

If you're interested in learning more about Charles Phoenix, his retro slideshows and his culinary kitsch deeee-lights, visit his website at : www.charlesphoenix.com.

Here's our gang with Charles, he is so nice!
(Thank you Julie Ann for the photo)

Though I wanted to wear one of my vintage Hawaiian Mu' Mu's to the show, working in a Mu' Mu' wasn't too appealing, so I opted to wear some leopard print as testament to my love for animal prints. You know, I would wear leopard print everyday from head-to-toe, but I'm waiting till I get older and more ridiculous with age. *Wink*

The white blouse was from a clothing swap that my friend Leslie hosted and I had always admired the top on her and now it was mine! So awesome! Not only was it my first clothing swap experience (which was so much fun), I added a lot of awesome pieces to my closet.

I've got a fly on my lapel!

I forgot about this little pin that was hidden away in my sea of accessories. I got inspired to explore my drawers after helping friends move into their new place. I found a few little forgotten things that inspired me this week and I plan to re-explore my closet now that the weather has turned colder to see what other things that may tickle my fashion fancy.

Have a great weekend! Thank you for reading!

Shoes! OMG! : Qupid MONTE-17A

I've got to admit I'm not hating that chunky heels are everywhere, like the Qupid MONTE-17A. These styles of shoes remind me of the good ole' days of the 90s, rockin' clunky platform shoes and being asked "Are those clown shoes?!".

Outfit of the Day : Big and Burgundy

Big and burgundy perfectly describes this sweater I purchased from H&M along with the same style in black. The store was having a 'buy one get one free' sweater sale which was a happy coincidence as I've been on the hunt for some longer tops to wear with my leggings.

I bought the sweaters two sizes too big as I wanted the over-sized "goth sack" look that I always crave. They are comfy, roomy and though not the most figure flattering, yet it makes me happy. With this being said, I have to reference a blog written by one of my favorite bloggers, Alison from Wardrobe Oxygen, and to quote the title of her blog, "Flatter the Figure or Flatter the Soul"

I know what silhouette's fit me best and I know what to (or should) stay away from, but sometimes I just throw those 'stylist rules' out the window. I might buy clothing too big, or without a defined waist, or something that is over-the-top tacky, because life is too short to not wear what speaks to you.

Long live goth sacks!!!!

Halloween Costume Adventures : SteamPUNK

On actual Halloween Day, Derek and I went to an event in the evening called The Witches Ball. It was a huge masquerade that took place at the historic Lafayette Hotel in downtown Buffalo. The Witches Ball also had a side theme of Steampunk, in which I took my creative hold onto said theme. Basically I was putting the 'punk' in steampunk, as a joke, and came up with a little character of my own.

My costume idea was formed around the thought of, "What would a Victorian punk look like?" I made the plaid bloomers (which was a huge personal accomplishment since I hate using patterns), the vest is $1.50 from a thrift store, plaid tights from Forever 21 and patches were handmade to look like the anarchy symbols inside gears. I added a lot of safety pins, some vintage welders goggles and (my favorite prop) my hair.

Derek did a more traditional steampunk look as Derek really enjoys the aesthetic, yet the funny thing is that he's wearing his normal clothing with a few bits and bobs added there. Haha! The coat was made by our friend Judy, as her sewing skills never cease to amaze me!

Derek's gas mask thing was made for a steapunk themed event in 2008, so when we pulled it out of the costume box, we knew that we'd partake in The Witches Ball steampunk side theme. Sometimes it takes some visual cues (like our Halloween box) to get the brain juices flowing.

We had a good time at The Witches Ball, despite my panicked feelings while in large crowds. It was nice to get dressed up and do something different on Halloween day and admire the creative and varied costumes that the patrons were adorning. I really do love Halloween, but I'm glad it's all over. *Phew*

What did you do this Halloween season?

Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos is a day to remember our loved ones and friends who have passed on. I have lit a few candles amongst our personal mini altar to remember and honor the fond memories of my Aunt, Grandparents and several others who are no longer with us on this Earth, but their spirit still lives with me always.
